Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Arrival on the Moon
Tsunade's uneasiness—Nawaki could easily guess the reason.
The Legendary Sannin had only just begun to grasp the patterns of the Lord God's missions, only to suddenly learn that the next one would be an Ascension Mission with a drastically increased difficulty level. Naturally, that would put anyone on edge.
They had barely scraped by with each regular mission—wouldn't an ascension-level one be a near-death trial?
As shinobi, the Sannin never for a second believed the Lord God to be kind or merciful.
"Still, I've been quite lenient with them," Nawaki thought to himself. "They've been through several missions without anyone being erased or killed by a teammate. Just close calls."
If it had been someone like Minato or Kushina, who had personally witnessed the brutal purges and death-based eliminations in the reincarnator mission, their reaction wouldn't be just mild concern—they'd be bearing immense psychological pressure, constantly feeling death breathing down their necks.
Nawaki had no intention of adopting those brutal elimination trope like other systems, but he couldn't deny the fact that such systems did force their host to reach their full potential.
It was probably that lingering anxiety that made Tsunade drink so much during her usual soak in the hot spring—ending up completely passed out by its edge.
She really was a handful.
Nawaki chuckled helplessly as he tidied up the dishes, but he had no intention of lowering the mission difficulty.
A Lord God was still a Lord God. Being a doting little brother was a different matter altogether—they couldn't be mixed up.
Unaware that her younger brother was scheming to increase the hardship of her future trials, Tsunade kicked off her sandals and lazily curled up on the couch.
Her laid-back voice drifted over.
"Nawaki, I'll be leaving tomorrow. Are you coming to see me off?"
"Leaving? Where to?"
Nawaki paused in surprise.
"There's been an order from the Land of Fire," Tsunade said, smiling. "Konoha's been instructed to launch an expedition into the Land of Wind to pressure them into accepting the peace treaty terms. It aligns perfectly with what Sarutobi-sensei wanted. After more than a month of preparation, the Konoha forces are finally ready to depart."
"Your sister is now one of the famous Legendary Sannin of Konoha. Of course I have to be on the frontlines of this war."
Hearing that, Nawaki was reminded of the recon mission he had undertaken a month ago. Everything suddenly clicked.
"Take me with you! I'm strong enough now!"
"You're not ready yet," Tsunade rejected him flatly. "You've already been targeted by the infamous Uchiha Madara. Even if I let you leave the village, the elders wouldn't agree. If you really want to prove yourself, then hurry up and get stronger—strong enough that people can stop worrying."
After Nawaki returned from his last mission, and news spread that he had encountered the legendary Madara, both the Senju clan elders and Konoha's upper echelons were horrified. If Madara hadn't been weakened by age, Nawaki wouldn't have come back alive.
So, in the interest of safety, Nawaki's movements had since been restricted to within Konoha. Any attempt to leave would surely be blocked.
Nawaki understood that these decisions were made out of concern for his well-being… but it was still frustrating.
Especially now that Madara had regained his youth—if he truly wanted to make trouble, even the combined forces of Konoha wouldn't be able to stop him.
But Nawaki couldn't exactly say that out loud.
Guess I'll just stay home and soak up the sun… I'm a shut-in Lord God now anyway.
Giving up the idea of showing off on the battlefield alongside Tsunade, Nawaki suddenly thought of something else.
Currently, he had three identities: an ordinary person, a Reincarnator, and a Lord God.
Tsunade had given him Avalon. If he were just a Reincarnator, he would've been able to deduce her real identity from that artifact alone.
Should I just tell her now that I'm a Reincarnator too?
Otherwise, once Tsunade finds out on her own, she'll definitely complain that he didn't say anything sooner… and beat him up out of love.
As Nawaki debated with himself, he absentmindedly placed the cleaned dishes to the side—only to look up and see Tsunade already fast asleep on the couch.
He couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. He pulled a thin blanket over her.
"Guess I'll save the Reincarnator talk for another time."
---
Early the next morning, before dawn had broken—
Tsunade and the Konoha shinobi forces left the village and set off on their mission.
After seeing his sister off, Nawaki returned home and opened his mind's eye.
What appeared before him was a silver-gray expanse, riddled with craters of varying sizes—the surface of the Moon.
Not far away, a giant blue figure was rapidly closing in.
Without a teleportation array, Madara had flown toward the Moon entirely on his own strength. It had taken him more than half a day to reach this point.
While the Moon in the Naruto world was created by the Sage of Six Paths using the Six Paths: Chibaku Tensei, it was still smaller and lower in orbit than the moons of other worlds.
After another dozen minutes or so—
Madara finally landed on the Moon.
From his vantage point, he had a clear view of the vibrant blue planet.
"[Bounty Mission Complete. Reward: The Secret History of the Shinobi World.]"
The Lord God's indifferent voice echoed.
Inside his Susanoo, a scroll materialized out of thin air, landing in Madara's hand.
He didn't open it immediately. A shadow passed through his eyes.
This Lord God…
It had directly bypassed Susanoo and delivered the item straight into his hand. He hadn't even noticed how the scroll appeared.
What if it hadn't been a scroll, but an attack?
What if it had manifested not in Susanoo, but inside his own body?
The thought alone made Madara's face darken.
This feeling—that his life was in the hands of some unknown force—was deeply unsettling.
But there was nowhere to vent that frustration.
He didn't even know who this shadowy Lord God was, much less how to retaliate.
Suicide? Only an idiot would choose death just because they couldn't solve a problem.
After a long silence, Madara finally unrolled the scroll and began reading its contents.
"In a distant past, the God Tree was revered as a divine pillar…"
"A princess of the distant Ōtsutsuki clan, born with the Byakugan, came to this land seeking the fruit of the God Tree…"
"After quelling the wars, Kaguya gave birth to two children…"
"Hagoromo and Hamura used 'Six Paths: Chibaku Tensei' to seal their mother, who had become the Ten Tails. But they didn't know that just before her sealing, Kaguya split off part of her will and created a third child…"
"This nameless third son sought to resurrect his mother, but lacking the strength, could only bide his time in the shadows…"
"Hagoromo founded Ninshū and taught the world how to use chakra. He was revered as the Sage of Six Paths…"
Line after line…
At first, Madara skimmed the scroll casually. But as he read further, his eyes began to narrow.
