Naruto: Heavenly Demon Karin Uzumaki

Chapter 7: #7 Sneak Attack

Karin sat cross-legged on the cold, grimy floor of her room. Upon recently making the discovery that she could also use her Chakra to sense the presence of others without having to rely on her extremely faint Spiritual Sense, she thought of a plan to grow faster in power.

As she concentrated, she noticed faint, almost imperceptible colors in the air. She couldn't see much beyond the confines of her cell, but she could feel faint fluctuations of Chakra in her immediate area, roughly 150 meters, that seemed to outline objects and people in the surrounding area.

A grim smile tugged at her lips. 'This ability opens up new possibilities. If I can sense people before they approach, I can avoid them. If I can track their movements, I can strike when they're most vulnerable.'

As the darkness of the night invaded the Hidden Grass Village, most shinobi and civilians went to sleep, and Karin prepared her move.

The village streets were almost empty, with only a few shinobi patrolling the main roads. Karin slipped out through the back window of her room, landing silently on the ground below. Her small size and careful movements helped her avoid notice as she stuck to the shadows, moving between buildings and avoiding the lantern light.

Karin had noticed shinobi coming and going from certain areas during the day, and she guessed that at least a few would be stationed there overnight. She just needed to find one who was alone.

After making her way to the edge of the village, Karin stopped and closed her eyes.

She stood still for several moments, her breathing steady, as she let her senses expand. 'Four—no, five Chakra signatures. Two far below herown and threearound half my own. This isn't it, too risky. I'll have to Hide around in ambush.'

Eventually, however, she found two isolated Chakra signatures, flickering like a small flame in the distance.

'Just two of them… perfect.'

She moved quickly but quietly through the forest, her bare feet brushing lightly against the ground. The trees and undergrowth provided ample cover, and the soft rustling of leaves in the wind masked the sound of her movements. As she got closer, she saw a small clearing ahead, dimly illuminated by a weak fire.

Two Chunin sat near the fire, one sharpening a kunai and the other talking. They wore the standard Hidden Grass Village uniform, their headbands reflecting the faint firelight. Both of their postures were relaxed; one had his attention focused on his weapon. The other wasn't even paying attention, so neither of them sensed her presence at all.

Karin crouched low, her crimson eyes locked onto her target. The Chunin with the kunai barely had time to react as Karin launched herself at him, her small frame a blur of motion.

Her fingers struck his throat. She had concentrated her Chakra onto her fingertips, trying to strengthen the lethality of her strike, unknowingly forming a sort of pseudo Chakra Scalpel.

Her hand was now several centimeters deep in his throat. Of course, seeing this situation, she did what anyone with a proper brain in her situation would do.

She grabbed hold of the Chunin's trachea and ripped it out before shoving it back into his mouth. 'He shouldn't be able to talk or make proper loud noises without it, but I'd rather not risk it. Who knows if some kind of chakra-based scream that works without it exists.'

This all happened nigh instantly, and just as the other Chunin noticed, Karin had already snatched the other's kunai.

The other one got up and tried to form hand signs but ended up fumbling them in panic.

Eventually, the Chunin stopped and gasped, stumbling backward, with his hand reaching for a kunai.

But Karin was faster. She twisted her body, her foot sweeping his legs out from under him. He hit the ground with a grunt, his kunai clattering to the dirt. Karin pounced, her knee driving into his chest, and she dislocated his arm.

Before he could recover, Karin was on him. She twisted his other arm and pressed her knee into his guts, pinning him to the ground. Using a strip of cloth she had torn from his own clothing, she quickly tied his legs together.

As the Chunin tried to call for help, Karin utilized this opening and shoved her kunai up into his mouth, drawing blood before whispering into his ear.

"Don't scream," she hissed, her voice low and cold. "It'll only make things worse for you."

The Chunin's eyes widened in panic, but he nodded, his breathing ragged.

Karin, in turn, grabbed him by the throat as a sort of threat, knowing that the man had just seen what she did to his colleague. She then slightly lowered her kunai, just enough to halfway comfortably speak.

"Tell me everything about Chakra," she demanded, her whisper sharp. "How it works. How to use it. How you trained in it. And tell me about Jutsu—especially the ones using elements."

The Chunin hesitated, his gaze darting around for a way to escape. Karin's eyes narrowed, and she struck him sharply in the ribs, making him muffle out in pain as his inner mouth got cut up by the kunai.

"Don't waste my time," she growled. "Talk."
