Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Shin’s Countermeasure
As he watched the distant Beast Pirates vanish, Shin let out a sigh of relief. His tasks in the New World were essentially complete, and it might be time to head to the first half of the Grand Line.
Of course, it was also possible for him to venture straight into the Calm Belt. With his mastery over the Azure Dragon fruit, neither the Red Line nor the Calm Belt posed any significant barrier.
However, Shin had an itch to check out the Red Line itself, curious about the mysteries it might conceal. After all, the so-called "national treasure" mentioned by Doflamingo likely wouldn't be much of a threat to someone as powerful as Shin. Weapons of mass destruction might be terrifying for ordinary people, but they held little sway over individuals like him.
As for Imu… well, even during the infamous Fisher Tiger's slave liberation, that mysterious figure hadn't made an appearance. It was unlikely Shin's actions would draw them out, either.
At Marineford, Naval Headquarters:
Fleet Admiral Sengoku furrowed his brow as he reviewed the intelligence reports before him. "Shin the Plunderer … just what is this guy planning?"
The Marine's information network had been impressive, especially after the news of Zephyr's defeat. The former Admiral himself had reported on Shin's strength, prompting the Marines Headquarters to take notice. Now, the entire headquarters was on high alert. Sengoku had even stationed forces in the Sabaody Archipelago and requested that Garp and the three Admirals remain on standby. He wanted them ready at a moment's notice to intercept Shin if he attempted to pass through.
Yet, Shin's movements had been erratic. He'd first appeared in Dressrosa, near the edge of the New World, only to head toward Totto Land, deep within Four Emperor's territory. From there, he doubled back to an island closer to Elbaf, confusing Sengoku and his entire intelligence team.
Most pirates or marines typically followed the guidance of their log pose. Occasionally, they'd use vivre cards to track allies. But with his Azure Dragon fruit and the support of someone like Violet, Shin had effectively turned himself into a living, breathing map. He could navigate to almost any island with ease.
Even the infamous storms and chaotic weather of the New World couldn't extend over vast distances to deter him. His unique path threw the entire Marine's tracking strategy into disarray.
Shin, of course, remained blissfully unaware that the Marines were preparing an ambush. Neither Doflamingo's underground network nor Stussy's World Government connections extended deeply enough into the Marine's domain to inform him of the grand scheme. The only asset he had within the Marines was Vergo, a Vice-Admiral posted in a distant branch, who was largely out of touch with Headquarters operations.
Had Shin known, however, he'd probably have been thrilled. The Marines boasted several highly sought-after Devil Fruits: the three Admirals' Logia and Sengoku's Buddha Fruit, each a top-tier ability in its own right. He'd already entertained thoughts of breaking into Marineford once before.
For now, though, Shin had other plans. With the power of the Soul-Soul fruit and Book-Book fruit, he activated his dimensional ability and left the world of pirates behind.
At the Moon, Naruto World
Shin's figure appeared again above the moon, this time prepared to boost both the Red Queen and the Tenseigan.
He was struck by the sheer concentration of chakra radiating from the massive Tenseigan. It was so intense that it almost resembled a pillar of light. Moving closer, Shin noticed Otsutsuki Hamura—or, rather, the avatar of Hamura, now a part of the Tenseigan artifact itself—sitting within the chakra beam.
Hamura has diligently served as the overseer in the virtual space for a long time. With the passage of years, the virtual world has undergone substantial adjustments under the Red Queen's management. Slowly but surely, countless glitches and issues have been smoothed out, leaving Hamura with relatively little to do.
Occasionally, he enjoyed the "life" of the virtual space, but more often, he observed the "servers" that ran the second world. Over time, the world's progress has been swift, with even moon landings becoming possible. But now, the Tenseigan had accumulated vast chakra reserves, reaching a nearly unimaginable level of power.
Since merging with the Red Queen, who'd absorbed the Tree Diagram, the Tenseigan's former limitations of only projecting chakra in straight lines were resolved. Though the Red Queen was technically a typical artificial intelligence, adding the Tree Diagram—a powerful computational system designed specifically for complex calculations—had enhanced the Tenseigan's abilities to an astounding degree.
While chakra and the world's ninjutsu were fundamentally distinct from Academy City's esper powers, the Tree Diagram's computing prowess allowed it to channel the Tenseigan's chakra into weaving immensely powerful jutsu. To put it bluntly, even if Kaguya Otsutsuki herself were to appear, she'd be hard-pressed to contend with the current Red Queen.
In his capacity as the system's administrator, Shin had witnessed several world-destroying jutsu developed through the Tree Diagram's computations. These weren't merely "surface-shattering" techniques but truly planet-crushing powers capable of obliterating the world.
Shin was thankful the Red Queen lacked any malicious tendencies in such moments. If he'd installed an AI akin to Ultron or Skynet, the entire world might have been obliterated by now.
One of his primary reasons for retaining Hamura's avatar was as a contingency to limit the chakra flow if the AI ever went rogue. And though the Red Queen's role as the virtual space's protector had always kept her in check, the recent advent of potentially world-ending ninjutsu underscored the importance of safeguards.
Fortunately, the Red Queen's behavior had been consistently reliable, and the virtual space had maintained stable operations. The appearance of these devastating jutsu was simply the natural outcome of her ongoing development process, much like how weapons inevitably became more destructive with human civilization's progress.
However, Shin had finally discovered a reliable way to control the Red Queen fully. This newfound peace of mind reassured him that, upon his next visit to this world, he wouldn't be greeted by the sight of a lonely moon orbiting an empty world.
As he moved closer, Hamura glanced at Shin, smiling warmly. "It's been a while, Shin. Your appearances are unpredictable; it's impossible to find you, even within the virtual space."
