Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Kaido's bargain
After losing his Devil Fruit, Kaido's face darkened, but he remained silent.
'A loss is a loss,' Kaido thought. As a Sea Emperor, he could accept defeat, and as long as he stayed alive, he had confidence in making a comeback.
In addition to the Azure Dragon Fruit, Shin also acquired a detailed blueprint of Kaido's body structure.
As expected of the strongest creature across sea, land, and sky, Kaido's physical resilience surpasses Whitebeard's. Besides Big Mom, no one else seems to possess an innate constitution that can match his.
Shin felt he could further enhance himself with Kaido's and King's recorded physique.
Kaido, now without his devil fruit powers, appeared paler, and his once invincible aura diminished. He had sustained severe injuries from Shin's relentless assault earlier, with broken bones and collapsed muscles. Without his formidable physical resilience, heightened by his mythical devil fruit, Kaido would not have survived until now.
Though his condition had stabilized slightly, the sudden removal of his devil fruit significantly reduced his physical strength and recovery, aggravating his previous injuries.
'Is he really going to die just like that?' Shin wondered, feeling a bit uneasy. Despite Kaido's self-proclaimed "immortality," it was clear from past battles that this was exaggerated. While his durability was exceptional, he wasn't invincible nor able to regenerate lost limbs.
To ensure Kaido's survival, Shin transferred a significant amount of Yang chakra into him, healing many of his internal wounds.
Just as Shin turned to leave, Kaido called out, "Wait, kid."
Slowly standing up, Kaido was no longer constrained by the sea stone chains, as they only suppressed devil fruit users. Despite his lingering injuries, he could still move freely.
He looked at Shin, his gaze intense, and asked, "You should be able to heal me completely, right?"
Shin's yang chakra had reached an advanced level, allowing him to heal even severe internal injuries effortlessly, surpassing the medical technology of this world.
Not only was he a skilled medical ninja, but he also knew how to best utilize yang chakra. By employing the power of his fruit, he could even instantly mend Kaido's injuries without impacting his future combat ability.
Recalling how Whitebeard's power had nearly returned to its prime during their last fight, Kaido had reason to believe in Shin's abilities.
Shin smirked. "I could, but I think your current state is safer for everyone."
Kaido's eyes narrowed. He understood his injuries well. Even with healing, there were limits to his body's recovery abilities. However, with ample yang chakra flowing through him and his life-return abilities, Kaido felt confident he could fully recover without losing any strength.
Now, he just needed to convince Shin.
"Are you interested in the true treasure of the Beast Pirates?" Kaido asked.
As one of the Four Emperors, Kaido's crew held a significant stash of devil fruits. Notably, Devil Fruits like Yamato's, Page One's, and Ulti's had been acquired from his personal collection.
Kaido had always had a penchant for collecting zoan-type fruits, either by capturing them from rivals or through his raids. He frequently gave these fruits to those who had proven their loyalty.
While Shin had already taken three devil fruits from the vaults of Beast Pirates, those were merely the more common types. Kaido's real treasures were stored elsewhere.
"So, the true treasure of the Beast Pirates is hidden underwater? For a devil fruit user, that's quite an unexpected location," Shin remarked, surprised as he looked over the coordinates Kaido had handed him.
"Then again, with the Azure Dragon fruit's unique resistance to seawater, it does make sense," he mused.
Kaido met Shin's gaze. "There are three Devil Fruits there. Two of them are ancient Zoan types, and the third is a particularly rare common type."
"A rare common type?" Shin questioned, intrigued. Kaido explained, "Certain ordinary animals possess remarkable abilities, often surpassing even ancient Zoans in specific attributes."
"For example, the chameleon's color-changing skill, the earthworm's regeneration ability, and the tardigrade's resilience—some of these traits are more exceptional than those of ancient species."
"So, what's the special common type?" Shin asked, now fully engaged.
"It's a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the 'Shrimp Shrimp Fruit: Model Mantis Shrimp,'" Kaido replied, as if lost in thought. "This devil fruit, despite being categorized as a common species, has combat abilities that rival most ancient types."
Shin looked puzzled, unfamiliar with the power of a mantis shrimp. Nevertheless, he trusted Kaido's assessment.
"A common fruit stronger than most ancient types? Now I'm really curious," Shin admitted.
With the coordinates in hand, Shin partially healed Kaido's injuries before deciding to inspect his newly acquired treasures. Then, he would decide whether or not to complete Kaido's healing.
Shin was unaware, but the mantis shrimp—often called the "pistol shrimp" in modern times—is astonishing. With a rapid punch, it can reach speeds of over 80 kilometers per hour, with an acceleration that exceeds that of a bullet. This impact creates friction so intense that it produces a momentary spark, even underwater.
Under normal circumstances, no creature of similar size could withstand a punch from this shrimp. With these abilities, this "common" species could indeed be formidable, outmatching even some ancient zoan types.
