Chapter 340: Chapter 340: Cliche Encounter?

'This device should allow me to traverse parallel worlds, right?' Shin looked at Karasuki in his hand, his expression a mix of surprise and doubt.

This was New York, the most prosperous city in America. The streets were bustling with people, cars honking as they weaved through traffic, and towering buildings lined the skyline. It looked completely normal.

Of course, since Shin had chosen to travel through the DC world, it was only natural for this situation to occur. However, the real anomaly was that there were no signs of Superman or Batman here. Instead, he found mentions of Captain America and mutants.

Don't ask how he knew this. With the Mother Box in his possession, combined with his biochip, even without an internet connection, he could absorb information directly through electromagnetic waves.

In addition to that, Shin quickly identified several key organizations and locations—Stark Industries, Oscorp, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (better known as S.H.I.E.L.D.), Latveria (Doctor Doom's country), the Baxter Building (home of the Fantastic Four), and even traces of Kingpin, New York's underground king.

"This is clearly the Marvel world!" Shin muttered, rubbing his temples. "Is it because Marvel and DC often collaborate and publish crossover comics that the two worlds can somehow be traversed ?"

As everyone knows, while the DC and Marvel worlds may look similar on the surface, there are significant differences.

At least when it came to power scaling, Marvel's most famous heroes were generally a notch below DC's heavyweights.

Of course, when comparing the entirety of both universes, the differences were not that large. Both sides frequently copied from each other, and many heroes bore striking resemblances to their counterparts.

'Could that be why these two worlds are classified as parallel universes?' Shin thought helplessly.

"Even so, this Marvel world is much better than the DC world I just visited."

This world was indeed stronger. After all, the DC world Shin had just left was closer to its movie version, whereas this Marvel world—if not entirely the comic version—was at least a hybrid of various movies and TV series.

Not to mention, Mutants, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Fantastic Four coexisted here, meaning they encompassed elements of the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four franchises.

This meant that powerful entities such as the Phoenix Force, Dormammu, and Galactus existed as well. In terms of danger level, it was probably even riskier than the previous DC world.

While thinking through these matters, Shin considered what he could gain from this world.

"First, there's Wakanda's vibranium, then adamantium, and of course, the Infinity Stones… but these might be useless outside this world."

"In addition, there's the high-tech advancements here. The technological level is significantly better than the DC movie world. Most importantly, the gap in technological development isn't as absurdly large."

In the DC movie world, ordinary human technology was unimpressive, and the rest were alien advancements that were nearly impossible to reverse-engineer.

Here, however, three scientific powerhouses stood out—Iron Man, Doctor Doom, and Reed Richards. Each of them was at the forefront of technological innovation. Following closely behind were other notable scientists like Dr. Hank Pym and Bruce Banner.

In the movies, Doctor Doom and Reed Richards were heavily nerfed, but in the comics, their brilliance often surpassed even Iron Man's.

Iron Man focused purely on technology, whereas Doctor Doom mastered both science and magic, while Reed Richards pushed the boundaries of physics itself. His research often blurred the lines between science and sorcery, creating technology capable of countering even magical forces.

"Hey man, I'm a little short on cash lately. Mind lending me some money?"

Shin snapped out of his thoughts and looked around in mild surprise. He had wandered into a quieter street corner when a man blocked his path. The stranger was a short white man, standing only about 1.67 meters tall, with a rather odd appearance.

For a brief moment, Shin felt as if he had stepped back into the pirate world—this guy had the kind of scruffy look one might find on an opportunistic individual. Then he realized—he was being robbed.

'Wait a minute… Aren't world travelers usually mugged by gangsters with weapons? And you, of all people, decided to rob me barehanded? With your height?'

Shin, having spent time in the pirate world, stood nearly two meters tall. Even by American standards, he was tall and well-built.

Though he didn't appear overly muscular, a closer look at his joints and posture would make it clear—he was more than capable of handling himself.

And yet, here was a 1.67-meter-tall guy, unarmed, trying to mug him? Shin found it amusing.

Noticing the disdain in Shin's gaze, the man's face twisted in rage. "That look in your eyes… You people always give me that look! I'll kill you! I'll break your arm!"

As he spoke, his body began to distort—his hair grew longer, his canine teeth protruded, his skin turned a sickly green, and his nails morphed into sharp claws.

"A mutant?" Shin muttered, intrigued.

"That's right! Now hand over everything valuable, or I'll lose control completely! You don't want to be torn apart, do you?" the man shouted, his voice laced with madness.

Zzzt!

A brief flicker of electricity sparked, and the self-proclaimed uncontrollable mutant collapsed to the ground, convulsing as foam bubbled at the corners of his mouth.

"That's it?" Shin scoffed. He had merely used a low-voltage electric current—comparable to a standard stun gun—and yet, the man's reaction was as if he had been struck by a thunder god.

Five minutes later…

"Heh… Haha… It's all a misunderstanding, brother! Don't take it personally!" The so-called ferocious mutant was now all smiles, rubbing his hands together ingratiatingly. "I just use this trick to scare people and make a quick buck. I never actually hurt anyone!"

Shin raised an eyebrow.

"Besides," the man continued, "my mutation is purely cosmetic—it doesn't actually enhance my strength or physique. Any strong guy could beat me to a pulp."

"It's just that most people get scared when they see me transform, so they hand over their money out of fear."

"Even the cops around here know me! They're aware I don't harm anyone. I don't even carry a weapon, so even if I get caught, I won't be locked up for long."

Shin's mouth twitched. 'So I thought I was dealing with a mugger… but it turns out he's just a scam artist.'
