Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Siege on Yugito
The black figure leaped like a flea, reaching Aozora in just a few hops.
Aozora looked over—four people total, all dressed as Anbu ninjas.
They wore Konoha forehead protectors and various animal masks covering their faces.
The leader was small in stature, with silver hair. Although masked, Aozora immediately recognized him.
That messy silver hair, the comical fox mask, and the dull left eye clearly gave him away.
Kakashi didn't try to hide his identity either. He glanced at the scorched surroundings and then at Aozora's forehead protector. "Anbu, Kakashi Hatake. I came to assist after receiving your distress signal."
Aozora stepped forward. "Uchiha Aozora, Konoha Genin. I came in response to the distress signal too."
Kakashi sounded surprised. "Genin?"
Although he didn't know who Aozora had fought, but judging from the damage, Kakashi guessed it must've been at least a B-ranked Fire Release technique.
"Yes," Aozora confirmed. "I just graduated this year."
"The person we're rescuing is still trapped on Lianyun Mountain. My squad leader, Shibi Aburame, is currently engaged with the enemy."
Though somewhat surprised by Aozora's ninja rank, Kakashi quickly shifted focus back to the mission.
"Do you know anything about the enemy?"
Aozora thought for a moment before pointing at Lianyun Mountain. "Enemy identity unknown at mid-mountain level. At the foot of the mountain, my squad leader is fighting a female ninja with chestnut-brown long hair. Earlier, I saw a towering eerie blue flame rising into the sky from afar."
Following Aozora's direction, Kakashi spotted the continuous waves of water and eerie blue flames spewing from Lianyun Mountain.
After a brief pause, Kakashi said seriously, "The enemy might be a Jinchuriki from Hidden Cloud. Everyone, stay cautious."
With that, he led his Anbu team forward to reinforce.
Aozora hesitated briefly, then followed them.
Kakashi exchanged silent hand signals and lip-read messages with the Anbu members, then glanced back at him. "Are you still fit for combat?"
Aozora replied casually, "I can still throw a few shuriken from a distance."
Hearing that, Kakashi fell silent and focused on moving ahead.
The five darted swiftly through the trees, soon approaching the battlefield where Shibi Aburame was fighting Yugito.
At the foot of the mountain, everything resembled a ghostly hell—the forest had completely burned into ashes, eerie blue fireballs scattered everywhere, and layers of black insect shells blanketed the ground, releasing a faintly sweet scent of charring insect shells.
Without tree cover, most of the bugs had died or been injured within this sea of flames, leaving Shibi Aburame at a severe disadvantage, retreating continuously.
Yugito wore a chakra beast-coat formed from Nibi's chakra—her defense was impenetrable, her speed ghostlike, and emitting fireballs seemed second nature as she launched relentless attacks against Shibi Aburame.
Dodging another claw strike from Yugito, Shibi Aburame could not escape the massive fireball engulfing him.
Boom!
The fireball smashed heavily into him, wrapping around his body until only a dark silhouette remained inside the flames.
"Sensei Shibi!"
As soon as Aozora shouted, the dark figure shot out from the fireball, shaking off the outer layer of clothing like a [Cellular Regeneration Ejection].
Shibi Aburame, though still wearing his sunglasses, had escaped the inferno. His trench coat was completely burnt away, leaving only a tattered undershirt on his upper body. The insect jar on his back had long shattered, exposing wounds covering his entire back.
The depth of these wounds was unclear—they had been completely covered by swarms of tiny crawling insects.
These bugs emitted a soft green glow, preventing the wounds from worsening despite intense movement, and even slowly healing them.
Still, Shibi walked steadily toward the Konoha group. Yugito stared fiercely at Aozora and asked, "What happened to Ishida?"
Aozora replied, "If you're referring to that Cloud ninja with glasses, he's already dead."
Although somewhat expected, Yugito couldn't suppress her rising fury, snapping harshly, "You deserve to die!"
Kakashi moved to the forefront of the group. His tightly closed left eye finally opened, revealing the Tomoe Sharingan, where three spinning tomoe were visible within his blood-red pupil.
He said coolly, "Yugito, you should be more concerned about whether you'll make it out of the Land of Fire alive."
"Aha ha!" Yugito let out a strange laugh before saying, "Are all people from Konoha this confident? You say this, yet Kakashi previously asked me the exact same question."
She suddenly turned icy, adding, "But if you hadn't arrived in time, Shibi would already be a corpse."
Unfazed by her tone, Kakashi said calmly, "Is that so? Then let me see your strength, Yugito!"
Immediately after speaking, Kakashi waved his hand. Three other Anbu ninjas instantly scattered to three directions around Yugito, quickly changing hand seals.
Yugito's eyes shifted, observing every motion of the Anbu ninjas' seals—these weren't the standard twelve hand seals used among ninjas.
For an instant, wariness flickered across her face as endless Two-Tails chakra surged within her throat. She decided to strike first.
The three Anbu's hand seals reminded her of mysterious and unpredictable sealing techniques.
Sealing Technique had ancient origins, capable not just of imprisoning rocks or lightning but even chakra and souls.
Even powerful tailed beasts stood helpless against such seals.
[Mouse Tail Marbles!]
Like rapid cannon fire, numerous cobalt-blue fireballs flew swiftly toward them.
Behind each fireball stretched invisible chakra threads. As everyone scattered, Yugito manipulated the chakra threads, abruptly redirecting the fireballs toward the three Anbu.
Unfortunately for her, Kakashi's left eye wasn't ordinary—it was the Tomoe Sharingan, and it saw every move she made.
[Water Release: Water Encampment Wall!]
Three streams of water appeared just in time, instantly shielding the three Anbu.
"Zi—"
The water walls burned intensely, evaporating rapidly due to the searing flames.
Though the fireballs didn't extinguish beneath the water, their trajectories twisted sideways under the current's influence.
Watching the blue fireballs fly off-target and continue burning along smooth stone surfaces, Aozora's eyes lit up, a spark of realization flashing in his mind.
Before he could fully process it, Yugito launched another attack.
[Great Fireball!]
[Fire Rat Bullet!]
[Cat's Paw!]
Transformed by the Two-Tails' power, Yugito possessed endless chakra. Endless waves of cobalt-blue fireballs poured forth. Meanwhile, she weaved constantly through the flames, appearing like a ghost delivering lethal swipes now and then.
Faced with such an assault, Aozora could no longer afford to hide his strength. He activated his double-tomoe Sharingan and worked hard to dodge every fireball.
He deliberately kept away from the three Anbu members, throwing standard-issue kunai and shuriken from the sidelines, playing a supporting role.
Unfortunately, standard-issue weapons like kunai and shuriken were only effective against ordinary ninja. Against a Jinchuriki cloaked in tailed beast chakra, they were little more than mosquito bites.
Aozora wasn't bothered by this, however. He continued throwing kunai and shuriken toward Yugito with full effort.
Right now, he had no intention of becoming Yugito's priority.
In her Tailed Beast Form, Yugito moved far too fast. Although Aozora could see her movements clearly through his Sharingan, his body couldn't keep up with her speed. If he became her main target, it would certainly mean certain death.
Though unable to land a decisive blow for long, Yugito still held the advantage—but inside, she was already beginning to think about retreating.
