Chapter 91: Chapter 13:Second Riddle!
Yuto stood on the massive head of the Eastern White Dragon, its injuries fully healed by his healing chakra. The dragon's shimmering white scales reflected the sunlight, and its piercing blue eyes, once filled with rage, now held a glint of submission. Yuto glanced at the summoning scroll in his hand, where the kanji for "dragon" was printed in one of the columns.
'Finally, i got myself a personal summon,' Yuto thought with a smirk. 'And not just any summon, but a DRAGON. Lightning, wind, fire, ice… this thing will be a beast when I am done powering him up with things like the zero tails and star village meteorite.'
Despite lacking wings, the dragon floated gracefully in the air, its sheer size—three times larger than Manda—making it an awe-inspiring sight. Yuto tapped his foot lightly, and the dragon rose higher, circling the battlefield. Its movements caused powerful gusts of wind that made the Genin teams scatter to hide.
"That... That can't be real," one of Kurotsuchi's teammates stammered, his voice trembling.
Kurotsuchi herself narrowed her eyes, shielding them from the strong gusts. "That kid... he really tamed a dragon?"
"He's flying it like it's nothing," Kankuro whispered in disbelief, crouching behind a boulder.
Temari gritted her teeth. "How is this even possible? That's not a summon—it's a monster."
Gaara's eyes narrowed, his sand forming a shield around him. He remained silent, watching Yuto intently.
The dragon began its descent, landing gracefully near Hitomi and Naruko. Naruko stared wide-eyed as she whispered to Hitomi, "Did he… tame it?"
Hitomi nodded slowly, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yeah, he did."
Yuto leapt down from the dragon's head, landing lightly in front of them. He dusted off his cloak and smirked. "So, what do you think? Impressive, right?"
Naruko blinked. "How… How did you do that?"
Yuto's grin widened. "When you've got power and a little persuasion," he said, tapping his temple, "even dragons can be reasoned with."
The dragon growled softly, lowering its head as if to acknowledge Yuto's control.
"Let's go," Yuto said, turning toward the forest. "This exam's far from over. With him on our side, it's about to get a whole lot more interesting."
Team 7 soared through the skies on the back of the mighty dragon, the wind rushing past them as the beast flew effortlessly. The sheer size and majesty of the dragon made their presence known to anyone watching, including the two samurai tasked with monitoring their progress.
Perched discreetly in the shadows of nearby trees, one samurai whispered to the other, his voice trembling with disbelief. "That dragon... It's the very one our people revere as a deity. And now, it's been tamed by a Genin?"
The second samurai nodded, his hand shaking as he reached for his communication scroll. "We must inform General Mifune immediately. This is beyond anything we were prepared for."
Without delay, one of the samurai vanished into the distance, rushing to deliver the astonishing news to their leader.
Meanwhile, atop the dragon, Hitomi carefully held the second riddle scroll, preparing to unravel its mysteries. However, Yuto raised his hand, stopping her. "Wait," he said, his voice firm but calm.
Both girls looked at him, puzzled. Yuto took a deep breath, his eyes softening as he spoke. "Before we move on… I need to say something. I'm sorry for how I treated you both earlier. I know I was harsh, but… you two really angered me. That's why I acted the way I did."
Naruko and Hitomi blinked, their surprise quickly giving way to guilt. Naruko lowered her gaze, her voice quiet but sincere. "No, Yuto. It's not your fault. We… we shouldn't have lashed out at you like that. It was wrong of us."
Hitomi nodded, her tone filled with regret. "She's right. We let our emotions take over and blamed you for things you didn't even do intentionally. That wasn't fair to you."
Yuto offered a small smile, the tension between them dissipating. "Truce?" he asked, extending his fist.
The girls exchanged glances before smiling and raising their fists. "Truce," they said in unison as all three of them bumped fists.
Hitomi unfurled the scroll, her eyes scanning the intricate kanji etched across its surface. She read aloud, her voice tinged with curiosity, "I am something big that can kill someone with a bite if I was alive. I am one of the protectors of the Land of Iron. What am I?"
Yuto, Hitomi, and Naruko exchanged glances, each of them falling into deep thought.
Yuto frowned slightly, muttering under his breath, "Something big… something that can kill with a bite… and it's connected to the Land of Iron."
Naruko scratched her head, pacing back and forth on the dragon's back. "A protector of the Land of Iron? Aren't their samurai the protectors? But they're alive…"
Hitomi's brow furrowed as she analyzed the riddle. "It says 'if I was alive,' so it must be something that isn't alive now… maybe a statue or something symbolic?"
Yuto snapped his fingers as a thought crossed his mind. "Wait, protectors… could it be something like a legendary creature or relic tied to their traditions?"
Naruko nodded slowly. "That makes sense, but what could it be? A dragon?" She glanced down at the massive beast beneath them before shaking her head. "No, too obvious."
The three of them grew silent, each deep in concentration as they tried to unravel the mystery hidden within the scroll's words.
Suddenly, Yuto snapped his fingers with a grin, the sound echoing in the crisp air. "I've got it," he declared confidently, pointing forward. "Sora, head for the outskirts of the Land of Iron."
The dragon, named Sora by Yuto, let out a powerful roar, its massive body shifting direction with smooth precision as it soared toward the distant horizon.
Naruko and Hitomi exchanged puzzled glances, their brows furrowed.
Yuto smirked, leaning casually against Sora's head as he explained to his teammates. "Think about it. The riddle says it's something big, can kill with a bite if it were alive, and is a protector of the Land of Iron, right?"
Hitomi nodded slowly, still uncertain. "Yeah… but what does that have to do with the outskirts?"
Yuto gestured toward the mountainous terrain below them. "The entire Land of Iron is nestled between three massive mountains. If you've noticed, they're shaped like a wolf's mouth. Those mountains act as natural defenses, making it nearly impossible for an army to invade. They 'protect' the Land of Iron because of their strategic terrain, and they're not alive. It fits the riddle perfectly. So one of the three Wolf mountains should be the location for the riddle scrool vault."
Naruko's eyes widened as realization dawned on her. "Of course! The Wolf Mountains! That makes total sense!"
Hitomi's lips curved into a small smile. "I've got to admit, Yuto, that's pretty clever. Nice work."
Yuto shrugged, his grin widening. "What can I say? I'm a genius."
Naruko rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her amusement as they sped toward their destination, the towering Wolf Mountains now visible in the distance.
