He had only managed to escape by using a substitution jutsu. If he were caught again, the opponent, being on guard, would likely kill him for real!
Thus, Jiraiya ran even faster.
What he didn't notice, though, was Raen smirking coldly not long after his departure.
"Foolish. I let you escape on purpose, and you didn't even realize it.
Once I find your village, I'll slaughter everyone there.
By then, my strength will undoubtedly skyrocket!"
Thinking of this, Raen felt exceptionally clever.
Instead of searching aimlessly, it was better to follow a ninja back to their village and carry out a massacre!

If he pursued Konoha, he'd likely be captured and killed on the spot.
