Chapter 76: Chapter 76: When You Accidentally Humble the Hyuga Clan Head Without Even Trying
"Father."
Hanabi watched as Garou walked away, only to turn and see her father, Hiashi, standing beneath the eaves of their home. He squinted slightly in the direction Garou had left, and Hinata couldn't help but feel surprised.
Her father looked… caught off guard.
And truthfully, Hiashi was surprised.
He had assumed there would be room to bargain over the chakra needle technique.
But unexpectedly, Garou had rejected the offer outright, decisively, even. Moreover, the implication behind Garou's words seemed to be a challenge: Try it yourself.
'If we can succeed, there's no need for a trade?
Such confidence!'
Hiashi couldn't understand where that confidence came from.
'It's just a technique,' he thought. 'Not some unfathomable art.'
"Well, let's see what I can do then."
A faint smile tugged at Hiashi's lips.
He told Hinata to continue her training, then turned aside to begin analyzing the chakra needle technique.
It wasn't a difficult jutsu, not fundamentally. The challenge lay in being the first to create it.
After a moment of concentration, he raised his hand. A needle-thin strand of highly condensed chakra formed above his palm.
It wasn't really difficult.
'But… why was Garou so confident?'
Hiashi's brows knit together, the unease in his chest growing stronger.
"Father… Are you trying to use the Chakra Needle technique?"
Hiashi didn't answer immediately.
Hanabi hesitated, unsure whether she should speak up, but finally, she opened her mouth. "I've seen chakra needles before. They weren't like yours. The medical ninja use them too, and theirs are more solid... stronger."
Hiashi was momentarily stunned. He looked again at the needle floating above his hand.
'More solid? Greater strength? Impossible…'
Still, he wasn't using his full power yet.
"I also heard…" Hanabi continued timidly,
"Garou-kun's chakra needles are on another level. He doesn't even need hand signs to use them anymore. That's why he made a version with hand seals, for others who can't do it like him."
She didn't mean to gossip, but these were things she'd heard from others in the compound recently.
Hiashi went silent for several long seconds.
His version of the technique wasn't his absolute best, but it was close.
He could still hold his own against most ninja in a contest of chakra control, but if what Hanabi said was true…
'Garou's needles are even stronger?'
He couldn't wrap his mind around it.
"I… I'll return to training, Father."
Hanabi shifted uneasily, bracing for scolding that never came. Hiashi just nodded silently, giving her leave to go.
'Forget it,' he thought.
'I'll try it first. Worst case, we just go back to negotiating.'
The Hyuga Clan's Gentle Fist was powerful in most scenarios. It was just when dealing with certain rare or extreme situations that it fell short.
So there was no need to rush the deal.
Hiashi exhaled slowly, turned, and walked toward his study.
There, he continued his experimentation with the chakra needle.
—
Meanwhile, Garou had returned home after leaving the Hyuga estate.
He didn't stop anywhere else. His mind was clear, and his heart was calm. He wasn't the least bit worried about Hiashi's reaction. His confidence was rooted in real strength.
If the chakra needle were so simple, he wouldn't have bothered to make it the basis of a deal in the first place.
The truth was, Garou had revised the chakra needle technique multiple times over. Even the version used by medical ninja was a derivative of his work.
The hand-sign version drastically reduced the difficulty for others. But the real game-changer was in the combat variant, where he had infused the technique with spiraling chakra motion.
It wasn't just a needle anymore.
Against heavily fortified defenses, Garou could deploy spiral-type chakra needles, drilling into targets much like the Rasengan, driving straight through obstacles.
And once it pierced the target, it triggered the next phase.
Gentle Fist: Spiral Form.
Hiashi had assumed the core of the chakra needle was just high-level compression.
But that was a shallow guess.
Garou knew words alone wouldn't convince Hiashi.
He'd have to experience the gap in person.
Seeing is believing.
'Let him see the truth. Then we'll talk.'
After a period of intense training, the next day, Garou went to visit Tenten. Danzo had recently sent over the Four Great Ninja Tools, and Tenten had been pouring herself into researching them.
Though full replication was impossible for now, she had already mapped out their internal structures.
Tenten was well-versed in forging methods and chakra-metal fusion techniques.
What she couldn't understand were the layered enchantments and advanced seal scripts. That's where Garou came in, to help fill in the gaps.
Over the next two or three days, he often dropped by to assist her.
Time passed quickly in their focused collaboration.
On the third day, the Bodhi Seed responded.
The seventh pattern had emerged.
And it was clearly connected to the Telescopic Vision Technique, the new enhancement focused on perception.
Now, Garou could sense his own chakra network with exceptional clarity.
It wasn't a combat upgrade, per se, but this was just the beginning.
As the jutsu spread and saw greater use, the benefits would only multiply.
"My current perception doesn't rival the Byakugan," he murmured, "but I'd say it matches most high-tier sensory ninja now."
Perception wasn't hard firepower, but it was vital in team operations. In the original Team 7, that role had been handled by Kakashi.
Later, by Sai.
Garou suspected his team might undergo reorganization soon. They couldn't rely on Kakashi forever.
That made developing his own sensory capabilities a smart move.
It might not be flashy, but it was far from a wasted effort.
'Seven patterns down. Just three more to go.'
Although he wasn't entirely certain, Garou believed the Bodhi Seed underwent special changes every five patterns.
That was his current working theory and goal.
He stared at the seven glowing lines.
'So close…'
After some calculation, he concluded he currently had two viable ways to create more patterns.
The modified parasitic insect therapy technique.
The chakra storage ninja tool he'd redesigned.
The former was already on track to produce a new pattern soon.
The latter, though, was more complicated.
He had completed a prototype, but it required four users operating in sync.
Too cumbersome.
He needed to simplify and refine it for widespread use.
That would take time.
Clang!
A sharp metallic note rang out.
Garou turned his head.
Tenten stood behind him, holding a blade. She had just flicked the blade with her finger, testing the resonance.
"Wanna try it?" she offered.
"Sure."
Garou took the weapon and gave it a few practice swings.
"A bit light… but it'll do."
"Huh?"
Tenten blinked, then realization dawned. "You're growing again, aren't you? That blade was modeled after the one you used last month."
Garou nodded.
That made sense.
At his age, boys had growth spurts, and one of the Bodhi Seed's patterns had even enhanced his physical development. The combination was accelerating his strength gains noticeably.
"Well, this one's just the first draft anyway. I'll make a heavier version next."
Tenten chuckled and ran over to her tools, quickly inscribing something onto the blade.
"Tenten."
Forgers always had the privilege of naming their creations.
Garou watched her with a smile. "Not taking a break? Or doing your own training?"
"Forging is training," she shot back without looking up.
When she finished engraving her name, she flexed her fists with a grin.
"I've already mastered Limitless Leaf State. My arms are even stronger now."
Girls didn't have the same natural upper-body strength, but Tenten had trained her hands and forearms relentlessly to keep up with the demands of blacksmithing.
The results spoke for themselves.
"What about Earth Release?" Garou asked.
"To insulate against extreme heat," she explained, "I wrap myself in an Earth chakra layer. It doubles as resistance training."
As for ninja tools, there was no need to practice anymore. She'd been doing it for twelve years straight.
She couldn't forget if she tried.
"Everyone's improving," Garou mused aloud.
"That's really nice to see."
