Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Reward: Genjutsu Proficiency
As the gentle evening breeze swept through countless homes, the lights began to dim and fade, signaling the deepening night.
Having just returned to the village from a recent mission, Kanzuki chose not to leap across the rooftops but instead walked slowly along the chilly, deserted streets.
His Root mask had been stowed away, and he wore a gray combat uniform with a short blade slung across his back, presenting a sharp and efficient appearance.
Feeling slightly fatigued, Kanzuki paused to look up at the star-filled night sky.
The starry sea sparkled with dazzling brilliance under the dark blue horizon.
However, none of these diamond-like stars felt familiar.
A fleeting hint of melancholy crossed his expression but quickly vanished.
The houses on both sides of the street had almost all extinguished their lights, except for one home above where a soft light radiated from a bay window.
As a cool breeze swept by, Kanzuki closed his eyes contentedly.
Something flew out from the bay window, drifting gently down onto Kanzuki's face.
The scent of detergent...
What is this?
Kanzuki opened his eyes to see a pink-and-white object.
He reached out and pulled it from his face.
The soft cotton texture...
A figure hurriedly leaned out from the brightly lit window above.
Kanzuki glanced at the woman's intimate item in his hand and then at the familiar silhouette above, feeling somewhat awkward.
"Wait a moment!"
The figure frantically exclaimed, throwing open the window and leaping down.
In a red nightgown, one strap had slipped down to her shoulder, exposing her fair leg clad in slippers.
As she got closer, Kanzuki could clearly smell the scent of alcohol mixed with the feminine fragrance lingering from her.
"Please… give it back to me," Yuuhi Kurenai awkwardly spoke, her voice a bit flustered, and her face was flushed, whether from the alcohol or embarrassment.
Realizing something, she hurriedly pulled the strap of her nightgown back up.
"Sorry..."
Knowing each other made Kurenai feel even more embarrassed.
Kanzuki handed her the item, and when she reached for it, he noticed her hands trembling slightly, her face burning as she nearly buried her head in her chest.
At that moment, the boy facing her spoke.
"Remember to close the windows next time you do something like this."
Do something like what?
Kurenai was momentarily stunned, and as she grasped the meaning behind Kanzuki's words, she jerked her head up.
"What do you mean?!"
"Nothing much," Kanzuki replied nonchalantly, turning to walk past her.
Kurenai quickly reached out, firmly grabbing Kanzuki's arm.
"You need to explain that!" she said through clenched teeth.
Kanzuki glanced at her, his eyes revealing an assessment, and calmly replied, "What more do you want me to clarify?"
"I…" Kurenai drew in a deep breath, trying to quell the dizziness from the alcohol and the anger from Kanzuki's earlier words.
"It's not like you think; I was all alone upstairs!"
"You don't have to explain this to me." Kanzuki attempted to move his arm, but her grip was strong, preventing him from getting free.
What the hell is this girl thinking?
The two of them stood in a stalemate, Kurenai holding onto Kanzuki's right arm, their positions awkwardly close.
From the perspective of anyone unaware of the situation, it would appear as though a couple was having a disagreement.
A cool breeze blew, and Kurenai, wearing only her thin nightgown, shivered.
"Let go; I'll go up with you," Kanzuki frowned.
Kurenai was adamant, fearing that if she let go, Kanzuki would run away, ruining her reputation and dignity.
They made their way to the front door downstairs, ascending the stairs to Kurenai's bedroom door.
She pushed against the door, but it wouldn't budge.
Kurenai slapped her forehead in realization.
"I locked it inside."
She had leaped down from the window earlier without bringing her keys along in her nightgown.
"You can't leave; wait here," she turned around, glaring at Kanzuki.
Seeing her like this made Kanzuki inwardly amused.
He hadn't genuinely believed Kurenai was with another man upstairs; he had merely referenced her later relationship with Asuma in passing.
Kurenai's insistence on dragging him upstairs to defend her innocence had convinced him otherwise.
"What? Are you planning to notify someone inside to escape while you can?" Kanzuki remarked casually.
"You!" Kurenai exclaimed, furious, unsure if she should lash out with words or physically.
Clang!
Suddenly, she made a swift move, pulling Kanzuki's short blade from its sheath and forcefully stabbing it into the wooden door.
With a great deal of effort, she removed it, but the blade was embedded deep, preventing it from coming out easily.
Kurenai continued to take deep breaths, pulling the blade from the door repeatedly until she had created a gap.
She reached in, turned the knob, and swung the door open.
"Get in!"
She tossed the blade onto the floor, and Kanzuki walked in without changing his expression.
The room was much larger than Kanzuki's, well-furnished and inviting, with a faint pleasant fragrance wafting through the air. Upon entering, he noticed a large bookcase filled with various scrolls against the wall.
The pale yellow bed was somewhat messy, as if it had been used recently. There was a hanging drying rack by the bay window with several clothes on it; the intimate garment that had fallen earlier was among them.
A pot of wine and a small cup sat on the table in front of the sofa.
Does this woman enjoy evening drinks?
Kurenai leaned against the doorway in relief, breathing a little harder.
Watching Kanzuki's silhouette in her room, she couldn't help but shake her head.
What am I doing...?
As her awareness began to sharpen, Kurenai covered her face in embarrassment, thinking.
Damn it... I shouldn't have gone out while drunk...
"Can I leave now?" Kanzuki's voice interrupted her thoughts.
At this, Kurenai felt a surge of anger rise within her.
Is this brat playing games with me?
As Kanzuki turned to look at her, his expression remained calm, but that calmness felt mocking to Kurenai.
His lifeless eyes made her feel as though her earlier actions were no more than a clownish joke, making her feel foolish.
This little brat, looking so good, yet so annoying?!
As she thought this, she couldn't help but scrutinize Kanzuki further.
His sharp outfit stressed his physically fit form; his unkempt short black hair fluffed up naturally, and his delicate features exuded a cool yet sharp vibe.
It was a shame his face bore such a deadpan expression. Kurenai found it hard to imagine what he looked like when he smiled.
Such a handsome face wasted.
When Kanzuki noticed Kurenai not responding, he turned to leave.
"About today..."
As he walked past her, Kanzuki suddenly heard her softly speak.
"Nothing happened today."
Her tone changed, becoming deep and harsh. "Understood?"
Kanzuki paused and glanced at her. The strap of Kurenai's nightgown hung precariously low due to her earlier vigorous actions, exposing much of her fair skin.
Kurenai's figure was curvier than Anko's, radiating all the allure of womanhood.
"You trying to threaten me?" he asked.
Kurenai, still holding tightly to the cause of this situation, let her hair fall, concealing her face.
"You guarantee you won't speak of this," she said in a low voice.
The atmosphere grew tense; Kurenai's words felt like calm before a storm.
"Why should I?" Kanzuki replied, unafraid.
Swish!
Kurenai moved with lightning speed, but Kanzuki was quicker, accurately apprehending her fist as she aimed for his face.
It hurt...
Kurenai felt her right hand restrained, and she realized the force he applied was much stronger than she expected, causing her wrist to throb painfully as the pressure turned her fair skin pale.
She gritted her teeth, "Let go!"
"Weren't you the one who started this?" Kanzuki replied coolly.
"How quickly you turn hostile! Weren't you the one insisting on dragging me up here?"
Kurenai snorted, turning her head away, but Kanzuki's grip compelled her lips to tremble.
"What do you want?!" she glared up at Kanzuki, their bodies almost touching, with their chests nearly pressed together.
Kanzuki could see the raw hatred mirrored in her red eyes.
He sneered slightly, raising her wrist higher, forcing Kurenai to stand on her toes due to the pressure.
At this moment, Kurenai found herself pressed firmly against him.
"You?!" She was shocked at Kanzuki's brazen actions.
"Genjutsu Master?" Kanzuki mocked.
Smack!
Suddenly, he pivoted, forcefully pinning Kurenai against the wall, her wrist still held high.
The position was deeply embarrassing for Kurenai. With no alternative, she stood on her tiptoes, struggling to regain her footing, while her other hand futilely pounded on Kanzuki.
Facing Kanzuki so closely, she began to feel a sense of panic rising within her.
"What do you want?!"
"Let me go!"
Kanzuki stared coldly at her.
"Are you sober yet?"
Kurenai was breathing heavily, and as she realized she was running out of options, she began to figure out how to communicate with him.
But in the next moment, she felt a hand bluntly grasp her chin, her vision suddenly filled with an enlarged face.

Kurenai was finally released, sinking down to the floor as she rubbed her throbbing wrist.
Her hair was in disarray, her lips swollen, with a trace of blood oozing from them.
She fixed a cold glare at Kanzuki.
"Wait for jail time!"
Kanzuki licked his lips, feeling the fresh cut bleed anew.
"Is this about what happened today?"
Kanzuki picked the short blade up from the ground, casting one last glance at her before leaving.
"Are you really going to dare?"
