Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Finally Able to Improve Combat Strength

·After noticing Ryan's puzzled expression, Kenway briefly explained what he knew about the Forerunners. After listening, Ryan concluded that they were an advanced civilization possessing high-level technology and extraordinary abilities. This revelation suggested that Kenway's world was not a low-tier one. It also indicated that Kenway himself was more powerful than the average person, possibly even possessing supernatural abilities.

Kenway then introduced his world, which sounded like a parallel version of Earth during the Age of Exploration.

Perhaps it was the safe environment relaxing him, the weight of keeping secrets for too long, or maybe it was just the effects of alcohol, but Kenway began to ramble about his past experiences.

In his early days, he had conflicts with his wife due to financial struggles. Eventually, she left him and returned to her parents. Determined to bring her back, he set sail for the Caribbean.

However, by the time he had finally accumulated wealth, tragedy struck—his wife succumbed to illness, leaving him with only their daughter, Jennifer Scott. It was then that he realized money was not what he had truly needed; it was family.

This realization led him to devote himself to creating a secure and comfortable life for his daughter. But his past had too many enemies. To keep Jennifer safe, he distanced her from outsiders, making her withdrawn. He worried about how this isolation was affecting her.

One fateful day, while contemplating a solution, he took Jennifer to the beach. There, they encountered a mysterious fog. When the mist lifted, they found themselves inside Tim Hortans Grocery Store.

Kenway then launched into tales of his adventures at sea, detailing his many battles. As he spoke, Jennifer listened in wide-eyed astonishment—clearly, her father had never shared these stories before.

Ryan, however, didn't see piracy as a legitimate profession. But in that era, pirates weren't necessarily ruthless murderers of civilians. As long as Kenway adhered to that principle, Ryan found it acceptable. Even so, he felt these stories weren't entirely appropriate for a child.

To distract Jennifer, Ryan took out a set of wizard chess and handed it to her. "Why don't you play for a while?" he suggested. She nodded and sat behind the counter, focusing on the game.

Meanwhile, Ryan continued chatting with Kenway.

Kenway eventually began talking about his ship.

"It was a sturdy two-masted sailing vessel—steady, fast, and armed with over fifty cannons. With strong firepower and iron-plated defenses, it could move like the wind yet remain as agile as a bird. But it met a tragic end, sinking near Haiti. Ah... my poor Jackdaw..."

Ryan's mind jolted at the mention of Jackdaw. That name triggered a memory from his previous life—an online meme about the Jackdaw. Though the meme humorously referenced game companies exploiting bugs, Ryan immediately associated it with Assassin's Creed.

Unfortunately, in his past life, he had only read about the series and never played it. So, while he wasn't entirely familiar with Kenway's story, he knew one thing for sure—Kenway was an Assassin.

With this in mind, Ryan decided to test something. He looked Kenway in the eye and said a phrase he had forcefully memorized from his previous life:

"Nothing is true."

Kenway, appearing momentarily dazed, instinctively completed the phrase:

"Everything is permitted."

Then, realization struck him. He shot Ryan a sharp look. "How do you know I'm an Assassin?"

"Relax," Ryan said, gesturing for Kenway to sit back down. He then pointed toward Jennifer, who had stood up in a panic, accidentally knocking over the chessboard behind the counter.

"You're scaring your daughter," Ryan said calmly. "This is Tim Hortans Grocery Store. As the name suggests, it connects to countless worlds. So, it's not surprising that I've heard stories from your world."

Kenway mulled over Ryan's words. If Ryan had harbored any malicious intent, he would have acted by now. With that in mind, Kenway relaxed and sat down again.

"Since you know who I am," he said seriously, "then you must also know that the Templars will never stop hunting me. Although I bought my freedom at the cost of my life as an Assassin, that security is an illusion. I cannot guarantee my daughter's safety as long as we remain in my world. What can you offer to truly ensure her well-being?"

"Don't forget what this place is called," Ryan said with a smirk. "This store connects countless worlds. I can send you to any of them. The Templars might be powerful, but I doubt they can chase you across dimensions."

Kenway nodded thoughtfully. "That's an interesting idea. But what's the price? No one in this world helps others for free."

"Everything has a price," Ryan said. "Your abilities, your power, your wealth—your knowledge. Trading with me doesn't mean you lose them; it simply means you share them with me."

"That sounds fair," Kenway admitted. "I'm willing to offer everything I have in exchange for my daughter's safety. But first, tell me about the worlds we can go to."

Ryan grinned. "Of course. Let me introduce you to them."

He held up one finger. "The first world is in the midst of a snow apocalypse. Survival is tough, and only the strongest endure."

Kenway immediately shook his head. "Absolutely not."

Ryan held up a second finger. "The second world is very similar to your own—essentially, it's what your world would be like a few centuries from now. The downside? You'd probably live to see two world wars." He briefly described the devastation of World War I and World War II.

Kenway frowned. "I have no interest in participating in another war, and I won't let Jennifer get involved either."

Ryan raised a third finger. "The third world is a completely normal one. It's a few years ahead of mine—peaceful, with no major threats."

Kenway nodded. "That sounds promising."

Finally, Ryan held up a fourth finger. "The last world has living corpses, but humanity has developed special plants to combat them. I previously assisted that world, and my partner there recently informed me that they've successfully reclaimed vast territories. Eventually, they plan to eradicate the zombies entirely."

To demonstrate, Ryan displayed some of the plants from that world. Jennifer, intrigued, abandoned the chessboard and ran over to inspect them.

After presenting all four choices, Ryan leaned back. "That's all I've got. If you want, you can choose one. If not, you're free to leave with your daughter. The decision is entirely yours."

Kenway hesitated. He seemed torn between the peaceful normal world and the zombie-infested world where humanity was fighting back.

He asked Ryan for more details about both.

The conversation stretched on, with Kenway weighing the risks and benefits. After a long, somewhat awkward silence, he finally made his decision.
