Chapter 39: Fox Vs Wolf
Did that mean… it was the shapeshifter?
He scanned the crowd.
No chance of finding him… but he was there somewhere.
He's smart, Mike thought. He uses his ability well.
So I'll do the same.
"Bite, Strike, Pack — find the shapeshifter!"
Suddenly, a voice screamed:
"AHHH! A wolf!"
The crowd scattered in panic — everyone ran… except one person.
Giel.
Bullseye.
Mike narrowed his eyes.
Then he spoke:
"…How dare you imitate Giel — and even knock him out? You monster."
The person's eyes changed.
Then Player Fox spoke.
"You got the message too, didn't you?"
"Kill Player ——"
He shrugged.
"Sorry, Wolf… but I think this is the end for you."
In a flash, Player Fox charged at Mike.
But Bite, Strike, and Pack leaped in front of Mike, blocking the attack.
Fox was pushed back.
Mike couldn't risk using Wolf Strike right now.
He had to find another way.
Fox got back up.
"Ugh… Wolf…"
"Your summoning magic… is so damn annoying," he growled.
Mike asked calmly,
"What level are you?"
Fox smirked.
"Level 50. You?"
Mike grinned.
It was below him.
Even while in the hospital, Mike had continued doing his daily quests, even if they had been much harder than usual.
He was still Level 55.
Mike laughed.
Fox snapped.
He jumped high into the air, claws ready to strike.
Mike shouted:
"Safe Place!"
In a blink, Mike was teleported to his forest.
10 minutes on the clock.
"Wolf… what should I do?"
Then — in the sky — two massive glowing eyes appeared.
A voice echoed:
"Give me control."
Mike hesitated.
But he had no choice.
"Fine. Okay."
Half of his face turned wolf again.
His eyes turned red.
His hands became claws.
The portal re-opened.
Mike stepped through — and landed back at the exact same moment he had left.
Time hadn't moved.
Fox was still mid-air, flying toward him.
But instead of dodging, Mike jumped — straight at Player Fox.
Mike grabbed Player Fox and slammed him into the ground.
Then, with a fierce swipe of his claws, he tore through Fox's back.
Fox growled and jumped back, bleeding — but not done yet.
Suddenly, a fox tail burst from his back.
His face twisted and morphed.
Not just an illusion…
He was transforming.
Beside Mike now stood a humanoid fox — tall, sharp-fanged, eyes glowing.
Mike stared.
It was real.
Fox laughed.
"Let's play."
Both charged forward — and clashed with a thunderous impact.
Each blow they traded shook the area.
They leapt onto a nearby rooftop, continuing their intense duel.
Fox raised his hand —
Two glowing orange orbs formed and shot toward Mike.
Mike dodged to the side, flipped over the rooftop, and launched himself at Fox.
He grabbed Fox mid-air, pinned him, and punched him across the face several times.
Fox's body reverted to his human form, coughing.
"You're… higher level than me, aren't you?" he asked.
Mike nodded.
"Yeah."
Then Mike grabbed him with one hand — tightly.
With the other, he pulled back, ready to strike.
"I'm sorry," Mike whispered.
He couldn't use Wolf Strike — not without draining all his energy.
But he didn't have time to think.
Suddenly — Fox transformed into a rat and tried to escape.
But Mike was faster.
He caught the rat.
It squeaked wildly — it was Fox.
Without hesitation, Mike kicked the rat like a football, sending it flying.
He waited for confirmation…
