My Wives are Beautiful Demons

Chapter 513: PMS...?

The abyss, which seconds before had throbbed with screams, roars, and the sound of ripping flesh, was now plunged into silence.

Vergil stood in the center of the devastated clearing, breathing deeply but not panting. The bloodied body was a grotesque painting: the skin scarred, the face streaked red and black, the sword dripping as if it had just been pulled from a river of blood.

All around, there was nothing alive. Only corpses. Hundreds.

Crushed heads, ripped open torsos, limbs scattered like broken toys. The acrid smell of iron and sulfur permeated the air, forming a heavy mist. The sodden earth boiled under the weight of the blood that flowed in rivers.

Vergil wiped the blade on the clothing of a fallen creature, unhurriedly, like someone cleaning a kitchen utensil after dinner.

"Hmph…" His smile returned, serene, almost satisfied. "Too weak."

The colossus, which had been watching them before, had retreated. It hadn't moved since Vergil's last blow, and now it remained motionless, as if calculating. Its red eyes no longer held the same hunger as before—but something different: caution.

Zuri was the first to exhale. The serpent's colossal body still enveloped the group, but its scales trembled. Its reptilian eyes fixed on Vergil, and for a moment, she wasn't sure if he was still her ally.

"He…" she murmured, her voice low and thick with disbelief. "He wiped them all out."

Rize, sweating and bleeding from small cuts, couldn't laugh or speak. She just stared at the scene with her fist clenched. Vergil didn't look human, nor demonic. He was something else, something unnamed.

Vany, on the other hand, laughed—a short but nervous laugh, as if trying to convince herself this was real. "He really is my master... I've never seen someone turn hell into a slaughterhouse so easily."

She spat blood on the ground and looked up at Vergil.

"You're a monster, you know that, right?"

Vergil glanced over his shoulder. His smile was still there, but it wasn't the insane expression it had been before. It was worse: a cold, calculated smile, of someone who enjoyed himself as much as a predator who kills only because he can.

"Monster?" He tilted his head. "If that's what I am... so be it."

Titania, leaning on Roxanne, tried to regain her strength. Her face was pale, her hands trembling, but her eyes fixed on Vergil as if searching for an answer.

"No... it wasn't supposed to be possible. Not with magic, not with a blessing, not with a curse. What are you, Vergil?"

He didn't answer immediately. He simply sheathed his sword slowly, as if giving the group time to feel the weight of his question.

"I am…" He stared at the scattered corpses, breathing in the thick, metallic air. "…the only thing standing between you and death."

The silence that followed was crushing.

Roxanne, who had remained nearly mute until then, felt her heart race. She was still holding Titania, but her eyes were fixed on Vergil. The blood on his skin, the calm smile, the serenity after a massacre… it all sent a chill through her. Partly from fear. Partly from… something else she didn't want to admit even to herself.

"Vergil…" Her voice was low, trembling. "You… killed them all. Alone."

He stared at her for a moment. The smile softened, but didn't disappear.

"Yes. So what?"

Rize finally reacted, stepping forward, her sword still firmly in her hand, but her body trembled.

"So what?" She spat on the ground, her face red with anger and disbelief. "You laughed the whole time, Vergil! It didn't seem like a fight, it seemed like a fun massacre to you!"

Vergil arched his eyebrow, almost indifferent. "And it wasn't?"

This answer fell over the group like a cold stone.

Vany laughed again, but her laughter died quickly.

"Shit… I don't know whether to be relieved or scared."

Zuri, still in her snake form, narrowed her eyes, her forked tongue vibrating in the heavy air.

"He's not wrong. If it weren't for him, we'd all be dead by now."

Titania closed her eyes, her body weakening once more.

"Yes… but at what cost?"

Vergil ran a hand over his face, wiping the dried blood from his cheek. His eyes fixed on the colossus still watching in the distance.

"The cost?" He shrugged. "What are you guys talking about?" I killed them all, no problem… Is this PMS?

The group froze.

Roxanne's eyes widened so quickly she almost forgot to breathe.

"WHAT?!" Her voice was high-pitched, her face flushing immediately.

Titania, barely able to stand, nearly stumbled. The shock was so strong that the blood flowing from her nose stopped for a moment.

"Vergil!" she coughed, her golden eyes shining with pure indignation. "How... how dare you?!"

Zuri stopped baiting the group. The serpent lifted its head and, as if it weren't possible for a reptile to blush... its serpentine eyes shifted to the side, its entire body trembling.

It even closed its mouth, as if it didn't have the courage to let out its usual hiss.

Vergil tilted his head, genuinely intrigued.

"Huh? Isn't that right? You three stood there muttering 'the cost, the weight, the danger'... with that angry expression. I thought it was a hormonal attack."

Roxanne practically choked on her own air.

"V-Vergil!!" She clenched her fists, her face red as fire. "I can't believe you... that you...!"

Titania shook her head in denial, utterly shocked. "Of all the atrocities you've ever uttered, this... this surpasses them all!"

Vergil raised his eyebrows, confused.

"Atrocity? I just asked." You want me to apologize? Fine: forgive me for not understanding female drama in the middle of a bloodbath.

He spread his arms theatrically.

"But look... if I'm going to have PMS, I prefer it when it's me, because at least I get to kill something."

Zuri turned her head to the side, trying to hide her embarrassment. The scaly body shrank around them, and she even closed her eyes, as if that would lessen the embarrassment.

"Ridiculous... simply ridiculous," she hissed softly, but her voice trailed off mid-sentence.

Meanwhile, Vanny and Rize were completely... lost.

Vany blinked a few times, wiping the blood from the corners of her mouth.

"Okay, wait..." She raised her hands, eyebrows arched. "What the fuck is PMS?"

Rize looked at her and then at Vergil, frowning.

"I was going to ask the same thing." Is it… some kind of spell?
