29: Where Should the New House Be Built?
After expressing his idea about building a house and seeing that the Gu siblings weren’t opposed to it, Gu Yu felt relieved.
He didn’t want to do things that would annoy others, though even if Gu Mengyao and her brother disagreed, Gu Yu would still have built the house.
However, in that case, he would have needed to find other excuses. Fortunately, they were now almost in agreement, saving Gu Yu from having to come up with pretexts for building the house.
“If that’s the case, let’s build it. Ah Yu is right—we can confidently build a house!”
After hearing Gu Qingheng also agree to building the house, Gu Mengyao thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
Clearly, Gu Mengyao also wanted to build a house, but had hesitated for certain reasons. Now that both Gu Yu and Gu Qingheng agreed, Gu Mengyao felt she had been overly cautious.
This money was earned by them, not stolen or robbed—why couldn’t they build a house!
It must be said that although Gu Mengyao appeared somewhat calm on the surface, she was actually quite grudge-bearing inside. When they couldn’t eat enough or dress warmly, the pointing fingers and comments from others—Gu Mengyao had never forgotten any of it.
“Since everyone agrees to build a house, it’s decided! But where should we allocate land for building? Do you want to live in the village or somewhere else?”
Although regardless of how Gu Yu built it, they would have to build on the village land, there were still distinctions.
Take the current Gu household, for example. Because the deceased Gu patriarch was a hunter, for convenience, he had originally built the house near the mountains, far from the other villagers’ homes.
Despite the potential danger of wild beasts coming down from the mountains, since the family was in the hunting business, they had set some traps and weren’t afraid of being eaten by wild animals at night.
Of course, these were just the Gu patriarch’s thoughts before he got married. After he actually took a wife, he began to worry.
A single man could manage any way, but he had to consider his delicate wife and children.
However, just when the Gu patriarch was thinking about whether to find a place to rebuild the house, he encountered trouble while going to the mountains. Not even his body was brought back, leaving only orphans and a widow struggling to survive.
So Gu Yu asked this question now.
Although Gu Yu wasn’t keen on living with the village gossips, if Gu Mengyao was concerned about safety issues, Gu Yu could tolerate it.
After all, living at the foot of the mountain was indeed somewhat dangerous.
“Ah Yu, Qingheng and I both want to stay at the foot of the mountain.”
Fortunately, Gu Mengyao’s subsequent words indicated that she also didn’t want to live in the village.
This made Gu Yu breathe a sigh of relief, and he began calculating in his mind where the new home should be built.
“Ah Yu, am I a bad person for hating those people and giving up living safely in the village, choosing the dangerous foot of the mountain instead?”
As Gu Yu was thinking about where to build the new house, Gu Mengyao, seeing he hadn’t continued speaking, looked at him with beautiful eyes full of anxiety. When she looked at Gu Yu, her words carried uneasiness.
Even Gu Qingheng beside her became nervous, fearing that their request not to live in the village was too much and would anger Gu Yu.
After all, unlike the Gu siblings, Gu Yu had grown up in the village. Now rebuilding a house yet continuing to live near the mountains—perhaps Gu Yu wouldn’t be happy with that!
Gu Yu’s changes today had been too great, making both Gu Mengyao and Gu Qingheng feel uneasy.
When Gu Yu, whose thoughts had been recalled by Gu Mengyao’s words, saw the siblings’ anxious expressions, he wondered if he was so ugly that they feared him…
He was very happy not to live in the village!
So he wouldn’t get angry at all—the Gu siblings were overthinking. It also had to do with Gu Yu’s previous self, who hadn’t behaved in a trustworthy manner.
“Not living in the village is fine. I’m also too lazy to hear village gossip. Just now I was considering the trivial matters of building a new house, so don’t worry.”
After hearing Gu Yu’s explanation, the Gu siblings finally set their minds at ease.
They then began an enthusiastic discussion, after all, it was the new house they would live in in the future. The three were excited for half the night, and when they had talked enough, Gu Yu, using rest as an excuse, directly sent the excited siblings to bed, lest they lack energy during the day.
However, in order to become more familiar with his young wife, Gu Mengyao stayed in Gu Yu’s room, lying on the same bed with him.
Not only like this now, but they would also need to develop this habit for the future.
For this reason, Gu Yu directly decided… that the new house they would build would only have two rooms.
One for Gu Yu and Gu Mengyao, and one for his young brother-in-law, directly cutting off Gu Mengyao’s idea of living separately.
