Chapter 12: Fight
Packing his things, Mike and his friend Kitsune set off to meet the monk. Mike then asked her, "Where is this monk?"Kitsune replied to the boy, "He's on the other side of the forest, in a village near a river. It will take about three nights and three days to get there."Mike made a lazy face and started complaining, "But can't you teleport?"
Kitsune stopped walking and looked at him. "I can only teleport to a place I've already seen in person. Unfortunately, I've never been there. Now stop being lazy, and let's move forward."Mike and Kitsune walked all day until night fell. Tired, Mike suggested they rest, and Kitsune agreed.
They set up camp, hung their hammocks, and lit a fire. Mike then took out the game he had hunted earlier from his backpack. They ate and lay down to rest for the next day. The journey continued for three days and three nights. Suddenly, Kitsune stopped and said to Mike, "We've finally arrived."
Mike looked around, confused, and asked, "I don't see anything but dense forest. This doesn't look anything like what you described."
Kitsune touched a tree, and suddenly a portal opened. With a proud look on her face, Kitsune turned to Mike, and they entered the location. However, they didn't notice they were being followed by the same unknown person who had attacked Mike, still full of vengeance. He thought, "So this is the sanctuary, huh? Idiots. I'll get in there and destroy you all… Hahaha!" He then went back to the forest.
The place was exactly as described, but with many animals living in harmony. Mike could understand them perfectly. A turtle with a staff greeted them. "Welcome to the sanctuary, young adventurers. How can I help you?"
Kitsune bowed respectfully and said, "Monk, we need your help training this idiot here."
Mike responded, "I've already told you to stop calling me that!" They began to argue, but the turtle struck his staff on the ground, silencing them instantly.
"What do you need my help with? I see you've entered the sanctuary, so you must be good people," the turtle said.
Mike, still confused, just looked at Kitsune, who explained, "There's magic in this sanctuary that only allows people who mean no harm to enter."
Still confused, Mike confronted the turtle, "I need help connecting with nature and finally learning to use this watch." He showed the monk the artifact.
"I see you carry a very powerful artifact, but I also see your lack of connection with nature and unnecessary anxiety. You have much to learn. I can help you," the turtle said.
Mike smiled brightly and thanked the turtle. "Thank you so much!"
"First, let me show you the sanctuary," the monk said. Mike and Kitsune walked alongside him, touring the peaceful surroundings. Mike, amazed, thought he would never have imagined such a calm place could exist in the middle of the forest.
After the tour, the monk looked at Mike and gave him his first task: helping the local inhabitants. Annoyed, Mike confronted him, "I don't have time for this, monk! I need to get stronger as soon as possible!"
The monk ignored him and went to his home. With no other option, Mike began walking through the sanctuary and came across a family of wild cats. The mother cat was desperately calling, "Son, come down from there!"
The kitten was too frightened to climb down. Mike quickly grabbed the kitten and brought it safely to the ground. Grateful, the mother cat invited them to dinner. At the table, she asked, "So, what brings you here?"
Mike answered, "Well, I came here to connect with nature and use this beauty here," pointing to the watch.
"Well, I came here to connect with nature and use this beauty here," Mike said, pointing at the watch. Kitsune then added, "That's the goal, since only a monk can teach this idiot here."
The mother cat laughed and asked again, "I see. You came here to ask for the monk's help, right? He'll definitely help you. He's a very kind and helpful turtle. It was him who cast the spell to make this place what it is today. We consider him our guardian, the guardian of the sanctuary."
Mike responded, "Yeah, but he hasn't helped me with anything yet, stupid turtle."
The mother cat chuckled and continued, "And you two... are you a couple?"
Mike blushed deeply, unable to respond to the question. Kitsune stepped forward, holding onto Mike, and confidently answered, "Of course we are."
Mike, completely shocked, fell backward out of his chair, and everyone burst out laughing.
After dinner, Mike and Kitsune thanked the mother cat and went to rest. The next morning, they woke up to see the turtle helping a group of animals near the central area. It seemed that the monk always helped everyone, and they understood why everyone adored and respected him even more.
After a few days, the stranger returned to the portal location and tried to enter the sanctuary. However, he failed. He thought, "How am I going to get in? This magic is really strong."
Suddenly, he heard a voice from afar: "So, you want to enter this sanctuary?"
The stranger took a defensive stance and saw a snake emerging from the bushes. It transformed into a human. "I can help you, my dear, but everything has a price," the snake said.
The stranger asked, "What do you want?" "Well, we can form an alliance since I hate this place, but together, we will destroy it."
"I don't care about this so-called sanctuary, but why destroy it?" the stranger asked.
The snake replied, "Since we're forming an alliance, I'll tell you my story."
"Long ago, I lived in this sanctuary like all the other animals, but this peace irritated me. I thought we should train to face any problem, not rely on that stupid turtle, always acting like he was the greatest.
So, I created a group to rebel against that turtle. But he found out, showed no mercy, and killed everyone in the blink of an eye. As their leader, he didn't kill me; instead, he sealed all my magic and kicked me out. I just wanted to make them stronger, those ingrates. Now I'll show them the greatest mistake of their lives. I've been waiting all this time to strike back
With you here, we can finally destroy this place!"
The stranger agreed to the deal, and they prepared to invade the sanctuary. After some analysis, they found a small crack in the magic. If they hid their mana, they could enter unnoticed. And so, they blended in with the crowd.
Back to Mike: Finally, the turtle invited him to begin his training, which consisted simply of meditating in a spot between two apple trees with leaves gently falling. Mike then asked the monk, "How am I supposed to connect with nature? This meditation doesn't seem to do anything."
The turtle sat next to Mike and revealed a trick: "Everything has mana, Mike. Focus on sensing the mana in this place. Focus your mana and your breathing, and become one with it."
After a while, Mike focused and felt all the mana of the sanctuary. Very excited, Mike shouted, "I got it!" But immediately, he stopped feeling the mana.
The turtle scolded him, "You need to repress your emotions. Don't feel anything—no emotion, or you'll lose the connection with everything."
Mike resumed his position, and this time, he could clearly sense all the mana. Then he exclaimed, "I sense dark mana near the villagers."
The monk calmly asked Mike to analyze again. Mike confirmed the presence of dark mana, but the monk couldn't feel anything. The two of them then went to the location.
What they found was chaos: houses were on fire, bodies lay lifeless on the ground, and everything was broken. Mike, not understanding, shouted, "What's going on? Who did this?"
They saw flying creatures, and Mike understood everything. He stepped forward and confronted the stranger: "What are you doing? I know you hate me, but what does this place have to do with it?"
The stranger flew close to Mike and the monk and responded, "This place doesn't matter to me. What matters is your death. But this sacrifice was necessary to find you."
The monk recognized the enemy as the sealed snake and questioned, "It seems you haven't learned your lesson. I'll have to put an end to you."
The snake, enraged, replied, "You're no match for us, turtle. Look at what's happened to this sanctuary. You're not worthy to be its guardian. I'm going to take over this place with this boy, and you won't—"
Before the snake could finish, the stranger interrupted, "It's true, we haven't introduced ourselves. My name is Waru, and everyone will remember it, including you, Mike."
Furious, Mike swore to stop them, and thus, the battle began and start a little well
