My Vampire

Chapter 9: Confession

“What's wrong with you today, Doctor? It’s not like you to make so many mistakes. Here, are you looking at the patient’s form? You said you’d consider changing the prescription based on the results of this record. With this data, you're going to change the prescription, right?"

Even the ward nurses here have asked me,

“What's really going on?"

*Is she angry?*

“It's nothing. Just a hangover."

And I paste on a smile without the energy to keep it up.

“Then, would you like me to hook you to an IV to get the remaining alcohol out of your body?"

I hear a voice from somewhere. I turn back to the owner of the voice. It's Yuki.

“Haha, it's you. No, I don't need an IV."

“You'd better go home then.”

“That's what the outpatient nurse said.”

She hung her head.

“I understand. I'll take care of the rest, so Dr. Marc, please report early and go home."

When you say it so crisply, it's hard to bear. In more ways than one.

“... alright, then."

I told Yuki so and decided to go. I feel like I'll just become a nuisance if I stay.

I thought to myself as I staggered back home.

"Isn’t Dr. Marc cool even when he's hungover? Don't you even feel a sense of melancholy when you look at his back?" The ward nurse said.

All the staff at the ward nodded in agreement.

I ended up going home after all and had a lot of time on my hands. *Yes!*

I'll have to talk to Rick about it.

“Whoa, what's up?”

“Rick. You made sure to tell Jack, didn’t you? That we’ve got a problem with some roughhousing over here.”

“That's funny, I already told him, but I'll check again later. But what about Japan? It's a great place to be! It's the holy land of nerds!”

"Rick. More than that, I'm in trouble. I don't know what to do."

"Oh, man, this isn't like you. Got a girl on your mind? Yeah.”

“...! Hey! Rick, how’d you know?”

“I don't know how long you think we've been together, but I can hear it in your voice. You turned your back on everything you've ever done in this regard. Now face it. This is your chance. If that person finds out who you are and is afraid of you, you can just wipe their memory. You can do it. As a pureblood, you can make them your dependent and your dependent's dependent, too. If you don't want to see them go, so be it."

*Face it…*

“I guess so. I'll try my best. I'm not sure, but... If they reject me, please comfort me."

“You should be a little bit more confident. You’re a good guy. You've had plenty of chances in the past, but you didn't accept them, and that's how we got here. I'm rooting for you, man. I’ll ask about the werewolves over here, too.”

I hang up the phone and think. Rick, you've always loved humans. I remember you smiling when you saw them off, and they all smiled with fulfillment. I've always envied you for that. Can I do that?

Even for Nobunaga, it took me this long. To be honest, I’m not that confident.

I need blood. Come to think of it, I haven't had a drink because I've been busy with work. I guess I'll have to go out and look for it again at night. I'm also out of surplus transfusion packs, so I'll have to secure those somehow. Hmmm!

Then the intercom rang.

*It’s Yuki! *

No, it's not. I'm bloodthirsty now. I'm not sure I can hold myself back if I see her at a time like this. I'll have to use the answering machine, sorry. But then my phone rang... I answered it…

"Marc, are you okay?“

*It is Yuki after all.*

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just a hangover. Once the alcohol wears off, I’ll be fine. Sorry to worry you.”

When I said that and was about to hang up the phone, I hear Yuki's loud voice boom from my phone.

"Marc! Open this door!

*Hmm... It can't be helped, I'll have no choice but to ask her to leave early.

*

"All right, just don't talk so loud, it's going to blow my brains out."

I unlock the door. Soon after, the intercom at the front door rings. When I open it, I take in Yuki's worried face with my eyes.

“Marc, I'm coming in.”

She comes in.

“Lie down there," she says, pointing to the sofa.

She rummages through her bag and pulls something out.

“I brought something from my clinic.”

And there it was, an IV drip...

"Um, Yuki, what’s this?

“As you can see, it's Solulact.”

“I understand that, but why is it here?”

“I brought it for you. Quickly lie down and get in position, and let me use the bathroom first.”

And then she goes to get ready quickly.

I give up and lay on the couch.

She says, "Yes! Your veins are as magnificent as ever.”

In the end, she puts an IV drip in me. During the infusion, Yuki was doing something in the kitchen.

The room was already clean and tidy. I ended up going to the bathroom several times.

She said, "You're all right now. Your complexion has improved.”

“I kind of feel like I'm a patient being visited by a doctor.”

"This is a home visit. Don't worry, I don’t charge."

She turns that dazzling smile on me. I feel like I'm about to lose all sense of reason.

“Thank you, I think I can handle the rest.”

“I've prepared some porridge in the kitchen, so please eat it.”

I feel strange watching Yuki's back as she heads for the front door. I’m supposed to see her off at the door, but instead, I’m hugging her from behind.

“Marc…"

She says my name, and her own lips meet mine. It's not the first time I've kissed someone, but my heart is racing. Yuki stares at me in surprise.

“Yuki, I like you.”

Then I hug her again. My hunger and thirst react to her scent, and I kiss her neck. Then, with a thud, she shoved my body away from hers. I came back to my senses.

I was about to bite her.

“I'm going home now. Take care of yourself.”

The front door closes."
