Chapter 44: Chapter 44 - White Dragon
Two hours later, the city of Kuoh had fully settled into the stillness of the night. The main streets still displayed the glowing signs of a few convenience stores and discreet izakayas, but the atmosphere had shifted—couples heading home, a few students on bicycles, and taxi drivers parked by the roadside, smoking to ward off boredom.
At the docks, after more than two hours of intense conversation, Kazuya finally stretched, raising his arms above his head until he heard his shoulders crack faintly.
The sky had grown much darker, dotted with shy stars, and the breeze carried the salty scent of the sea mixed with the old oil of the pier.
"Haaah…" He sighed, letting his body relax. "Talking to you is almost as exhausting as fighting Sirzechs…"
Azazel let out a low chuckle, adjusting his coat as he packed away the rest of his fishing gear.
"Welcome to the adult world…" he replied with a wry smile. "Some say negotiation is an art. And you, unfortunately, have a talent for it…"
Kazuya gave a half-smile, turning to gaze at the horizon for a moment. The moonlight reflected on the dark waters, shimmering as if mocking the temporary peace they had sealed there.
But he knew: this conversation was just the beginning.
"Well, I'm off then, Azazel-san…" Kazuya said, his voice carrying its usual calm.
He turned unhurriedly and began walking along the pier back toward the city, his footsteps echoing softly on the worn wood.
The sound of the waves was the only thing filling the silence until, as if recalling something trivial—though his tone betrayed a more genuine interest—Azazel spoke:
"Oh, before I forget…"
Kazuya paused for a moment without turning around.
"In the first report…" Azazel continued, casting him a sidelong glance, almost casually, "I want detailed analyses on how the Alphecca Tyrant interacts with the Boosted Gear when both are active at the same time. If you can manage that…"
He paused, then gave a faint smile.
"That's what interests me the most."
Kazuya didn't respond immediately. He simply raised his hand and gave a brief wave before continuing forward, vanishing into the dimness of the night.
Azazel remained behind, his eyes still fixed on the spot where Kazuya had disappeared.
For a moment, silence reigned, broken only by the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the pier's pillars.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, thoughtful, and let out a sigh heavy with both fatigue and anticipation.
"That kid is… interesting," he murmured to himself, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Then, without ceremony, he activated a magic circle beneath his feet. The light glowed softly, enveloping his body in intricate patterns.
In an instant, he vanished, leaving behind only the sound of the sea and the night breeze dancing among the pier's posts.
After all, there was work to be done in Grigori.
And something told him that this night was merely the prologue to something far greater.
---
On the other hand, Kazuya walked calmly through the quieter parts of the city, the sound of his footsteps echoing faintly on the damp asphalt. The night was peaceful, but the air around him carried a silent tension, as if the world were holding its breath.
He was relatively close to his mansion when he suddenly stopped.
He felt it.
An enormous magical power approaching him like a bolt of lightning.
And then, a clear and determined voice rang out behind him:
"I finally found you, Sekiryuutei. That damned Azazel refused to bring me and even changed the location at the last minute…"
Kazuya turned calmly, as if merely confirming a suspicion.
Before him stood a young man of striking beauty: silver hair, pale and shimmering, icy blue eyes that pierced through. He wore a dark green V-neck shirt, layered with a black leather jacket with a high collar. His burgundy jeans had a silver chain dangling at the side, and black leather gaiters wrapped around his right calf with three distinct straps. His black shoes with buckles completed the elegant yet menacing look.
But what stood out most were the wings: two formations of white energy with eight feathers of vibrant blue light pulsing on his back.
Vali Lucifer.
The direct descendant of the original Lucifer.
The current Hakuryuukou. The wielder of the Longinus [Divine Dividing].
And above him, floating with an imposing aura, was the White Dragon of Supremacy.
Kazuya merely smiled, as if reuniting with an old acquaintance rather than meeting a potential rival.
"Azazel-san mentioned you might come looking for me. A pleasure to meet you, Hakuryuukou… Vali Lucifer."
Vali gave a faint smile as well, his eyes glinting with genuine interest.
"The pleasure's mine, Sekiryuutei… Ryougi Kazuya."
Soon, the [Boosted Gear] materialized on Kazuya's left arm.
Knowing that an encounter with Vali Lucifer was only a matter of time, he had prepared a special mechanism in his fake Longinus. Something simple yet ingenious: a system that mimicked Ddraig's presence—voice, personality, and even automated responses. It was Kazuya himself speaking through his own mind, articulating the words perfectly, with the device echoing them as if it were the true Red Dragon Emperor.
He hadn't used this trick with Azazel. But now… any lingering doubts about the authenticity of the [Boosted Gear] would be dispelled.
[It's been a long time, Albion,] said the deep, proud voice of Ddraig, resonating from the red gauntlet like a living flame.
[Yes… it's been a long time, Ddraig,] replied Albion from above, his voice echoing within the [Divine Dividing].
[It seems you've found an interesting host, Albion,] the fake Ddraig remarked.
[You too. Defeating Sirzechs… that's not something just any human could do,] Albion responded with restrained admiration.
[Indeed. My host is the most powerful of all I've ever had,] the fake Ddraig boasted.
[Mine is the strongest as well,] Albion shot back, with an almost friendly laugh.
Vali narrowed his eyes at Kazuya, who merely returned a calm, slightly provocative smile.
"What's that, Hakuryuukou?" Kazuya asked, his voice serene, almost casual.
Vali shook his head, slightly disappointed.
"I expected more from my eternal rival. In the end, you're just a human. Even if we fight a thousand times, you'll age… you'll lose your prime. It's a shame…"
Kazuya let out a laugh.
"That's your concern? Don't worry. Even if you spend your whole life trying to surpass me… you'll never manage it…"
He paused. His smile widened, but his eyes held a cutting coldness.
"After all… you're weak."
The provocation hit its mark.
Vali smiled. A smile full of adrenaline.
Without another word, he raised his hand and gathered a swirling vortex of silver demonic energy, condensed and pulsing like a collapsing star.
In an instant, he unleashed the attack on Kazuya.
The demonic beam roared through the sky, dense enough to pulverize a mountain.
But before it could touch him, Kazuya merely raised his right hand and threw a single punch while dematerializing his Boosted Gear.
The impact reverberated. The energy was violently redirected into the sky, tearing through the clouds like paper.
Vali raised an eyebrow. And then laughed.
"I thought it was arrogance… but it seems you can back it up. This is going to be fun…"
Kazuya smiled too, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"You can bet it will."
Without hesitation, Vali activated the hidden power of his Sacred Gear.
"Balance Breaker!"
The blue energy wings expanded to their fullest, and the sky lit up as if the very firmament were being torn apart.
[Vanishing Dragon Balance Breaker]!
Vali's body was clad in white dragon armor, marked by blue gems pulsing with Albion's power.
This was the Scale Mail of the Divine Dividing.
A form that allowed him to use the legendary [Divide!] in succession, without the ten-second intervals. One touch… and half the enemy's power would be cut, with half of that lost power becoming his. A terrifying ability.
Vali, now in his armor, seemed ready to face even a Satan-class opponent, perhaps even surpass one, if he tapped into the true power of the Heavenly Dragon of Supremacy.
The contrast with the [Boosted Gear] was clear: while it doubled the user's power with each interval, the [Divine Dividing] halved the opponent's power and absorbed it, bit by bit, as if corroding their strength with cruel patience.
"Not going to use your Balance Breaker?" Vali asked, his voice echoing through the white armor, powerful and serene.
Kazuya smiled.
"If it's necessary."
"Then I'll force you to use it!" Vali shouted, his power surging with a menacing glow.
Spreading his wings of light, he shot toward Kazuya in a blur nearly impossible to track with ordinary eyes.
But Kazuya wasn't ordinary.
In the instant Vali appeared before him and swung a punch cloaked in demonic energy, Kazuya raised his hand, blocking the attack with infuriating calm. A mocking smile curved his lips, as if the effort were mere child's play.
Vali's eyes widened in shock at the seemingly effortless defense from the human.
Kazuya let out a light, provocative laugh.
"Is that all, Hakuryuukou? I thought you'd be more… interesting."
In a swift motion, he grabbed Vali's arm, forcing him to crash into the ground with a thunderous impact.
The blow knocked the air out of the Hakuryuukou, and his armor cracked under the immense force. Still gripping his arm, Kazuya threw him away like tossing a pebble into a calm lake.
With agility, Vali spread his wings and stabilized himself in midair. Smiling, he formed dozens of silver demonic energy orbs and launched them at Kazuya.
The orbs surged at high speed, powerful enough to bring down even mighty demons. Vali's power, as a direct descendant of Lucifer, surpassed that of many exceptional demons like Rias or Sona.
A white aura enveloped Kazuya, glowing with a pure, almost holy light.
"Holy Ray!" he shouted, extending his hand as dozens of light orbs formed around him, transforming into arrows that shot toward the demonic orbs.
In the clash, the demonic orbs were completely nullified, while the light arrows continued their advance.
Vali's immense demonic power succumbed to the polarity of the holy light.
Several white energy orbs sped toward him.
Vali performed a series of aerial acrobatics, dodging the attacks, but soon realized Kazuya had vanished.
His eyes widened as the Sekiryuutei appeared at his side, leg poised for a kick bathed in holy light.
"Surprise!" Kazuya said, his tone almost playful, yet lethal.
The kick struck Vali's head, who cried out in pain as the light burned his skin. The impact sent him flying, while Albion began regenerating his armor.
Without wasting time, Kazuya raised his right hand and unleashed a beam of holy energy.
Vali's eyes widened as the wave of sacred power filled his vision.
"[Half-Dimension]!" he shouted, spreading his wings and halving the energy.
Even so, the light pressed forward, forcing him to use another ability.
"Divide!" he exclaimed.
[Divide! Divide! Divide! Divide! Divide!]
The wave began to dissipate as its power was diluted repeatedly, with Albion's voice echoing through the wings.
Vali prepared to counterattack, but saw Kazuya reappear before him, his fist immersed in pure holy light.
"You're too slow…" Kazuya taunted, with an arrogant smile.
The punch struck Vali's face, shattering his helmet.
Vali's cry of pain caught in his throat as the holy light burned his exposed skin.
Gasping, he retreated, groaning in pain.
[Vali, you can't face Ryougi Kazuya head-on. You need the Juggernaut Drive to have a chance. But if you take that form, this city and the surrounding ones could easily be destroyed in the clash, maybe even the country.]
"I know…" Vali replied, his voice tense, part of his face marked by burns.
Kazuya crossed his arms, floating in the air with a feigned bored expression.
"What's wrong, Hakuryuukou? Scared? Or already tired of getting beaten?"
Vali let out a laugh.
"I admit I underestimated you. You're a monster. So, I'll take you seriously. I'll use my Juggernaut Drive, knowing you care about protecting humans and that they'll be in danger because of it. Try to stop me…"
He sounded excited as he spoke, raising his right hand as a menacing aura began to envelop his body.
"I am about to awaken…"
[He's going to explode!]
[Yes!]
Voices that didn't belong to him or Albion echoed from the glowing jewels.
The gems of the Balance Breaker began to flash, chanting sinister hymns.
The aura around Vali grew dense as the past Hakuryuukou muttered their grudges.
"…I am the Heavenly Dragon who stole the principles of supremacy from God!"
[The dream ends!]
[And the illusion begins!]
The malice in the voices grew, the darkness threatening to take control.
Vali's breathing grew heavy, struggling to maintain balance.
"I envy the Infinite and pursue the Dream!"
[Yes, give us everything!]
The Balance Breaker's armor glowed even brighter, growing in size.
"I shall become the Dragon of Supremacy…"
[No matter how much time passes…]
[Or how the world changes…]
[ALL OF YOU ALWAYS CHOOSE DESTRUCTION IN THE END!]
As Vali recited the penultimate verse of his chant, the predecessors, the ancient Hakuryuukou, screamed in frenzied exaltation, like echoes of a past that never rested.
"…And I shall lead you to the limits of a white paradise!"
The final stanza was chanted in unison, Vali and his predecessors shouting as one.
[Juggernaut Drive!]
In the next instant, Albion announced the command with a voice laden with power and despair.
A blinding explosion of white light erupted from Vali's body, engulfing the battlefield in a dazzling flash. A colossal wave of pressure spread, making the air vibrate and the ground tremble. It was as if reality itself were screaming.
The Scale Mail began to reshape. It grew, reinforced, and distorted. The helmet elongated upward, forming sharp, blade-like horns. Metallic fangs emerged on the sides of the jaw. The wings expanded, gaining extra layers of power and majesty. The gauntlets and greaves became claws. The tail vanished and reappeared lower, extending from the coccyx, longer and more lethal. Spikes sprouted along the armor, as if the body itself were rejecting limits.
Now, Vali had transformed into a bipedal dragon of humanoid form, surrounded by an intense, almost blinding white aura. His power grew to a terrifying degree, his mere presence causing the earth to quake and the ground to shatter beneath his steps.
This was the Juggernaut Drive.
The forbidden technique, the pinnacle of power for the Hakuryuukou and Sekiryuutei.
It temporarily unleashed the sealed powers of the Heavenly Dragons, forces the Biblical God had hidden from the world. Not even the Balance Breaker could touch this abyss of power. But it came at a cost: the Juggernaut consumed the user's life force and brought with it the insane malice of all predecessors corrupted and destroyed by it.
Vali, however, had taken a different path.
With his demonic Lucifer lineage and extraordinary mental strength, he used his immense demonic power as fuel, delaying the life-draining cost of the Juggernaut Drive and maintaining his sanity through sheer willpower, as long as he could resist the madness rising from the memories of the fallen Hakuryuukou…
A millisecond after Vali activated the Juggernaut Drive, before its destructive power could spread through Kuoh, Kazuya raised his hand in a serene mudra.
Like brushstrokes on a living canvas, the world around was redrawn by the imagination of a god.
When Vali blinked, less than a second later, everything around him had changed.
Mountains covered in emerald grasslands stretched to the horizon. A starry sky, deep as a nocturnal ocean, hung above, with constellations not of Earth. The breeze was fresh, carrying the scent of flowers…
"What is this?" Vali growled, stepping back slightly, senses on high alert.
"Relax, you just told me to try and stop you, and I did…" Kazuya said, placing a hand behind his head. "This is my pocket dimension. Here, we can fight all out… so, how does it feel to be stopped so easily?"
His [Tír-na-nÓg] spell could create artificial dimensions with varied landscapes, and that's what he had used now.
Vali growled, his voice distorted under the draconic armor, like the muffled roar of a beast restrained by living steel.
"This just got even more interesting! I'll show you the true power of the Hakuryuukou!"
With a sharp motion, he raised his arm. Silver demonic energy began to concentrate, boiling like celestial magma. In seconds, it formed a colossal, dense, destructive orb, large enough to swallow an entire mountain.
With a roar that shook the space, Vali launched the attack. A beam of white light tore through the artificial skies of the dimension, the ground splitting into scars of pure devastation under the trail left by the sphere.
And Kazuya… stood still.
Only a breeze stirred his hair. His eyes glowed with that ethereal blue hue.
As the attack neared, the sphere slowed drastically, almost freezing in the air, inches from Kazuya's face.
The orb hung suspended, trapped in the infinity between him and the attack; his [Mugen] was active.
"It's… visually impressive…" he said, flashing a mocking, almost amused smile. "But still, too slow."
With a simple raise of his hand, Kazuya activated [Red]. A faint distortion appeared at his fingertip, until a scarlet orb formed, small, dense, pulsing with extreme repulsive energy.
"Here, take it back with interest," he said with a half-smile.
With an almost imperceptible snap, the orb was fired. Its speed was so immense that the air around it exploded in consecutive sonic booms. The projectile pierced through Vali's demonic sphere like paper, obliterating it instantly. But it didn't stop there. The red line of destruction continued toward the White Dragon Emperor.
Vali barely had time to react.
The impact was brutal. The force of [Red] struck him in the center of his chest, throwing him back like a projectile launched by an enraged deity. His body cut through the dimension's sky like a silver comet before crashing into a colossal mountain in the distance.
The world trembled.
The explosion that followed reduced the mountain to dust. The roar echoed through the entire dimension like thunder rumbling in the bones of those present. For a few seconds, the scene was shrouded in a thick cloud of dust and debris, until, in the midst of absolute silence, a glow emerged once more.
Vali was rising.
His Juggernaut Drive armor was already regenerating, draconic plates reassembling with metallic clanks and an intense aura of demonic magic.
"Not bad…" he murmured, blood staining the corner of his mouth. "But that's not enough to stop me, Sekiryuutei."
He raised his hand, and the space around Kazuya began to warp aggressively.
"[Half-Dimension]!" Vali exclaimed, activating one of his most dangerous techniques.
The space around Kazuya began to compress mercilessly. Everything around twisted, bent, and groaned as if the world itself were trying to crush him under dimensional pressure. Rocks curved, the ground cracked, and the air shimmered like glass about to shatter.
This ability essentially halved the size of things, including space, and could be used in this manner.
But Kazuya remained unmoved.
He observed the distortion around him like someone watching a curious spectacle. His eyes glowed blue, calm, almost bored.
"Oh? Trying to squeeze me into a little box now?" he taunted, tilting his head slightly. "That's cute…"
The air exploded in silence around him as [Limitless] kicked in, perfectly negating the compression. As the "most perfect Satoru Gojo cosplay," besides copying his techniques, he had naturally removed all the weaknesses he knew of. This wasn't difficult, considering it wasn't an "innate cursed technique" but rather his own [Magecraft] that he had created.
Originally, Mugen was an extremely powerful technique, but not invincible. Its weaknesses included nullification by specific tools or techniques, exhaustion, advanced spatial attacks, and domain expansions with unique conditions. Compressing the space around Gojo could be a viable strategy to bypass Mugen, but it would only work if it was a spatial manipulation that didn't rely on a direct attack and could overpower Gojo's response capacity. Even then, his teleportation ability and [Six Eyes] would make this approach difficult.
But thanks to his refinement of this technique into a personal Magecraft, his only weaknesses would be anti-magic attacks or something like Sirzechs' [Power of Destruction], which could disintegrate even atoms and someone's soul. Still, he believed that with more practice, even those weaknesses could be eliminated.
Vali roared, expanding his aura to its maximum. The [Half-Dimension] technique reached its peak, shrinking and compressing the space around Kazuya.
The air vibrated in agony. Rocks floated and then were crushed by the pressure.
The horizon curved around the epicenter of the technique.
But Kazuya stood untouched, unperturbed.
Seeing it wasn't working, Vali gritted his teeth and charged like a furious bolt, his body dissolving into afterimages as he moved so fast he seemed to be in multiple places at once. Each strike he threw was laden with demonic energy, strong enough to destroy mountains, and he spared none.
But Kazuya was one step ahead, using [Foot Santa] to dodge the attacks effortlessly.
Vali's strikes sliced through the air but never reached him.
"You're fast…" Kazuya said, a calm smile on his face as his blue eyes gleamed with quiet disdain. "But I'm faster…"
Before Vali could react, Kazuya counterattacked with his [Shining Fist].
His fist glowed with a holy flash, and the punch that followed was fired at the speed of light. The impact struck Vali's chest directly, the sound of the blow followed by a sonic boom that exploded like thunder within the dimension's dome.
Vali was launched upward like a flaming missile.
His Juggernaut Drive armor cracked violently, fracture lines spreading like golden webs across the white scales, and dark blood gushed from his mouth. Vali regained balance in the air with difficulty, his breathing heavy and incredulous.
Vali wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes gleaming with a mix of fury and excitement. The Juggernaut Drive armor pulsed, the cracks slowly regenerating as the white aura around him intensified. He floated, the air vibrating with the weight of his presence.
"You're good, Sekiryuutei. Better than I expected," he said, his voice hoarse but filled with determination. "But this isn't over yet."
Vali roared, driven by the fury and pride of Lucifer's blood. His wings erupted in energy, the power of Juggernaut Drive flaring to its limit, even damaged. He descended like a meteor, aiming a strike at Kazuya's head.
But Kazuya didn't move until the last moment.
His right arm tensed with raw, primal force, making the air around him tremble. It was as if a giant's bones inhabited his flesh. At the exact moment Vali's attack would land, Kazuya twisted his hips, turned his torso, and counterattacked.
He combined [Shining Fist] and [Strong Puncher], along with the [Blue] spell imbued in his fist, to form his attack. And finally, he added [Barrier Piercer] to bypass any defense.
His fist was surrounded by a blue-golden aura with hints of red.
Kazuya's punch struck Vali's face dead-on, compressing his cheek against his own skull with such colossal force that the air exploded in a divine boom.
Vali was hurled like a shooting star, but instead of ascending, he fell.
Fell.
Fell with such speed and impact that the dimension's ground shattered like glass under a celestial hammer.
The crater that formed was deep, dark, smoking, and at its center lay Vali.
Or what remained of him.
His Juggernaut Drive armor was shattered. Entire plates had broken off and evaporated. His face was covered in blood, unconscious, his chest moving faintly, breathing by instinct but utterly defeated.
Silence reigned.
Kazuya descended slowly, floating down to the bottom of the devastated crater.
Without a word, he landed softly before Vali's unconscious body.
He knelt calmly, his sharp eyes examining the state of the Hakuryuukou. He extended his hand firmly, placing it over the fallen opponent's chest. A subtle glow ran through his fingers—not ordinary magic, but a precise fusion of his [Third Magic] and Magecraft spells. While he couldn't steal Vali's Sacred Gear, as he was an ally at the moment, nothing stopped him from attempting to copy it later. In fact, he already had some ideas in mind…
As he analyzed Vali's Longinus, he also cast a few healing spells to restore him. By the time the young man fully recovered, Kazuya had completed his analysis.
He stood, cracking his neck with a slight movement, as if it were just another routine task, and dispelled the artificial dimension around him. In an instant, he returned to the spot he had left in Kuoh.
With a simple gesture of his hand as he turned, a teleportation magic circle formed beneath Vali's unconscious body. Without hesitation, he sent him directly to the bar where the meeting with Azazel was supposed to take place—or at least where it would have, had Azazel not changed the location.
With that done, he continued his walk home calmly.
