Chapter 41: Chapter-39 Clues For Eternal Potion
[Sorry for not updating on time, but my Practicals have started. So I usually am quite busy, either I am making my project or writing my lab manual. I'll try to update regularly, but no promises for at least this week. By next week, expect regular updates.
1.Any rare magical beast, which I could include in materials for the potion?? Do comment. Hope that the oldest readers and commenters haven't left.☺️]
'Sell things?"
After listening to Kaizo's words, the old man's face immediately showed an expression of interest.
"Aren't you a Muggleborn? Where did you get the things to sell? Don't tell me there are Muggle items in them, I won't accept them."
"Don't worry about who I am." Kaizo patted his chest confidently. "I can be considered one of your old customers. I know your rules. These things are all products of the Wizarding world."
"As for where they come from…since everyone follows the rules, you must also follow the rules too."
"I know, I know. I won't ask where they came from." Strucker waved the hand holding the cigarette and muttered in a low voice,"Forget it if you don't want to tell me. I can guess it myself."
Having said that, he stepped forward and opened the box. But he immediately stopped moving.
"Oh, I didn't expect it. This box is also a good thing."
The old man looked at box and carefully stroked the lines on it with his fingers.
"This style, this processing technique, this old leather, these traces of time…wait a minute, you made these traces today! A handmade leather suitcase from the Victorian era, you actually let it get bumped along the way like this!"
Halfway through touching it, Strucker became annoyed with Kaizo's carelessness with the antique, and glared at the boy angrily. But the boy was obviously not afraid of him, and just said in a casual tone.
"Since you cherish the antique so much, then buy it quickly, lest it fall into the hands of an ignorant person like me."
"Hmph! Of course I will buy it." The old man snorted, "but before that, I want to see what good stuff you have, and you actually kept it in such a precious box."
As he spoke, the old man carefully opened the buckle of the box and opened the lid. There was a whole stack of old books neatly stacked inside. Cow and sheep skin leather covers, pages bound with glue and thread, pages full of gaps, and classic printed and handwritten letters…
Strucker read them one by one and was surprised to find that most of these books were more than 100 years old.
"Toadstoll Stories", "Oops, I Deformed My Feet", "Why Didn't I Die When the Banshee Wailed", "The Magic of Chadwick"[Volume 1-7],"Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration", "Jigli Bokley and Hawkes Pokes", " Hogwarts:A School History"…
They are all wizarding books, and more than half of them are Hogwarts textbooks from a hundreds years ago. For example, "Beginners Guide to Transfiguration", and "Hogwarts:A School History" are revised versions a hundred years ago, with students notes written on them.
These books including the Victorian Era's chest were carefully selected by Kaizo from the Room of Requirement using the [Appraisal Technique].
This box was used naturally for the convenience of loading things. As for why he chose books, that's because Kaizo believes that selling books is the safest and most cost effective way. Looking at the large garbage dump in the Room of Requirement, there are all kinds of waste products in it.
Without making it known to everyone, what Kaizo has to do is to transport the highest value goods with the smallest space and weight.
There is another explanation for his criteria. First, of course, magic items are worth more than normal items. However, [Reparo] can only repair ordinary items for now. If he want to repair magical items, he must become proficient in Alchemy, Enchanting, Runes and Arithmacy.
This is something which the current Kaizo is unable to do. So in this case, Kaizo can only settle for the next best thing and choose some ordinary and expensive item. Things like furniture, magical map bottles and other heavy objects were eliminated.
Apart from jewelry and luxury goods, the best selling items left are books. However, it is not easy for him to find jewelry or luxury item in the Room of Requirement. After all, why would anyone throw away their expensive items.
Even if he insists on finding them, it's difficult to sell. They can be easily regarded as stolen goods. But antique books are different. First of all, they are widely available. Second, in the world of Harry Potter, books are not cheap, and are much more expensive than luxury goods.
Third, Kaizo has a massive database and very strong copying skills, so even if these books have missing pages, they can be easily repaired.
Strucker read these books from the beginning till the end. He looked at it several times until Kaizo became impatient, then raised his head and looked at the boy with admiration.
"I almost couldn't see it. Your repairing spell is really good."
After a pause, he continued, "We are all acquaintances, so let me tell you straight away, your books are well restored, but most of them are old textbooks, so the market price is a bit low."
"Therefore, a books price can only give you 8 galleons, and the box will count as 50 galleons. What do you think?"
8 Galleons? After hearing the price, Kaizo thought secretly that this price is pretty consistent with what he had in his mind. This price is actually similar to that of new books. For example, a fifth grade Potions book costs 9 Galleons.
If these books are sold as used books, then this price is actually quite high. And if these books are counted as antique books, then the price is a bit lower. But considering that these kinds of books are shipped in batches, and it is difficult to find buyers, and well the buyers are…it is not unacceptable to lower the price a little bit.
Kaizo thought for a while and counter offered:"I don't think so. There are 67 books in total. Each book is atleast worth 10 galleons. If you add the box, you can give me 700 Galleons."
"A copy actually sells for 10 galleons, why don't you come and simply grab the money?" Strucker suddenly became angry.
"An antique book is sold for only 8 galleons, are you trying to steal it?" Kaizo argued tit for tat, he wasn't going to surrender. He wants to become a diplomatic expert.
After the two of them blew their heads and stared at each other for a while, Kaizo finally said:" Hey, Mr.Strucker, you have to think about this. If this deal is completed, I will come to you again when I have new things to sell."
"There's other things to sell in future?"
Strucker's eyes lit up when he heard this, he nodded after silently calculating.
"Okay, deal kid. You've got a big advantage this time."
"If you say so."
Kaizo took the dragonhide bag containing 700 galleons and turned to leave. Now that the deal has been calculated, he doesn't mind letting the other party gain some leverage.
"See you next old man, and Merry Christmas."
"Mery Christmas, Grindel."
After leaving the junk shop for a hundred steps, Kaizo's face burst into a satisfied style. This time, he's really rich. Whether in the Wizarding world or the Muggle world, money is the most important. He didn't want to experience the tight life like this year's summer vacation again.
Even if he doesn't care about external objects, studying magic is the most important. Having some on hands is good for both life and research. With money now finally in his hands, the first thing he did was to change his clothes. The wizard robes, crucibles, experimental equipment…all were replaced with new ones.
He even went so far as to buy Artemis a brand new cage and a pack of delicious[a scottish round faced chicken] rat jerky. Then came Christmas, and he was rich again. This means that Artemis, who has been idle for half a semester, will have to work hard for a few days.
He spent the next time wandering around Diagon Alley, trying to find out information that was always the key ingredient in the elixir. The blood of Catoblepas, the tail tip of a matured nine tailed fox, Griffin beaks powder, and the head feathers of an owl beast.
In the end, several old acquaintances, Miss.Triest, the female clerk at the Magical Creatures shop, and the two owners of Slugs Pharmacy came to help him. As the largest magical animal shop in Diagon Alley, Miss Triest shop is inevitably associated with poachers.
Miss Triest revealed that there are indeed several groups of poachers in the Asian continent trying to find the mysterious creatures, such as the Nine-Tailed fox, and claim to have clear information of it's whereabouts.
Mary didn't think that the other party could really catch the Nine-Tailed fox. This magical creature has the ability to cast some illusion and offensive attacks with it's nine tails. No matter, what kind of desperate situation it may find itself in, as long as it sacrifices one of it's tails, it can escape.
Though the sacrificed tail will take decades to grow. But Kaizo doesn't want to catch the Nine-Tailed fox, at least not right now. For him, as long as that group of poachers can push the Nine-Tailed fox to its limit, they would easily be able to get some of it's hair. So Kaizo left Mary Triest 50 galleons and asked her to pay attention for the news in this regard.
As for the owners of Slugs Pharmacy, they brought him news of the blood of Catoblepas. Although the annual output of this kind of blood is very small, they do have suitable channels. After all, they also have some background.
After all, the potions book required by the students is written by their ancestor "Arsenious Jigger." So, Kaizo left 100 galleons as a deposit, and he should be able to get a small amount of the blood of Catoblepas during the summer vacation. Kaizo was very happy to receive the news of two rare materials in one go. But the news for remaining 4 materials is relatively slim.
Among them, the head feathers of the Owl beast are not even considered for the time being.
This creature is not a native of the Harry Potter Wizarding world. Kaizo doesn't expect the Owl beast to suddenly cross over and come here like the Drowner. The Wampus cat is a famous magical creature in America. It can walk upright, run faster than an arrow, and it's eyes are said to have hypnotic and Legilimency powers.
One of the 4 house symbols of IIvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was named after it, and it's hair is also the material for the core of American wizards. But since wizards in America can get hair, then they should also be able to get their claws.
He will consider this when he has time to go to the United States. The only one that seems slightly easier to deal with is the Griffin. The Griffin is a magical creature native to Greece. This is an ancient magical creature. It has the front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle, and the body, hind legs, and tail of a lion.
They mainly feed on raw meat and have a ferocious temperament, but skilled wizards can also fight them, or become their friends. Griffins once were spread all over Europe and were widely found in the records of wizards at that time. But today, very few people have seen or heard of them. Instead, their descendants from horses, Hippogriffs, were widely bred by wizards as their substitutes.
But magic materials is another matter altogether entirely. The Hippogriff can replace Griffin as a mount, but it could never replace the griffins materials as the medicinal ingredient for elixirs.
Compared with Wampus cats, owl beasts, and other magical beast, Griffins are rare, but atleast they are a native animal. So next, Kaizo decided to start looking for Griffins first.
