Chapter 61
Chapter: 61
“Mother.”
“Camelia? What is it?”
Late in the evening, I entered Rosalyn’s Room alone.
Usually, I didn’t come to her room like this, but given the circumstances, I had no choice but to check on her.
I needed to see if she was there, and I had to find out where the letters were.
“I just came to see you because I was bored.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I finished everything I needed to do while playing at the villa, so I have nothing left to do.”
“It seemed like you had a lot of work. Have you really finished it all already?”
“I worked hard. But because of that, I didn’t get to play much with sister Karen.”
That wasn’t a lie.
I had indeed finished all my work, which was why I hadn’t been able to play much with Karen.
Of course, I was only bringing this up while checking the interior of Rosalyn’s Room.
“Oh, right. I actually had something to tell you, Camelia.”
“What is it?”
She said this while looking at me sitting on the sofa.
I wondered what it could possibly be.
I had no idea what Camelia could want to tell me, but nothing was coming to mind.
Rosalyn probably wouldn’t be the one to bring up the letter first.
“You have to go to the Academy for a while, right?”
“That’s right?”
“But during that time, it’ll be hard to not deal with the business, right?”
“That’s true…?”
“So, I’m thinking of finding someone to help manage the business until you return.”
“…Yes?”
I was a bit surprised by Rosalyn’s words.
I had thought about who could manage my business in my absence, but the situation had been too ambiguous.
While I had met a few people while doing business, I felt everyone was too unsure to easily entrust it to them.
I never expected Rosalyn to bring this up.
“It’s someone I met back in the Academy. I think she might be good.”
“Hmm…”
“Of course, I haven’t approached her yet, but I thought it’d be nice for you to meet her next time.”
“…Let’s talk about that later. I’ll think about it a bit more.”
I was a bit surprised by the sudden topic, but the reason I had come to Rosalyn’s Room was different.
“Hehe, think about it. I haven’t even mentioned it yet.”
“Yes, got it.”
After a bit more chitchat, I left Rosalyn’s Room.
While we talked sitting on the sofa, I also confirmed where the disorganized stationery was and finished considering how to proceed.
Then, I headed to Ashley’s Room.
Given the nature of our mansion, most maids and family members rarely left their rooms during late evenings.
The only exception was me, occasionally taking a nighttime stroll.
Aside from that, there wasn’t much need to move around the mansion at night.
I judged that there wouldn’t be any problems with what I was about to do.
“Teacher.”
“Yawn… Are you done…?”
“Yes. I think everything should be fine.”
Fortunately, since we had already finished discussing things before this, Ashley appeared to wake up when I spoke.
“Since your mother is alone in her room and the mansion seems quiet, I think there’s nothing to worry about.”
“I see…”
“Shall we go once you’re a bit more awake?”
“…No, let’s go now. I want to finish this… quickly.”
“Okay.”
Once she changed from her pajamas to a shirt, we stepped outside together.
I had already made sure with Ashley that being outside wouldn’t alert anyone inside.
So, we arrived in front of Rosalyn’s door and started our task.
I wasn’t exactly sure what the magic was, but it was something Ashley had created.
“Hmm…”
I remained quiet while watching the magic circle gradually drawn with mana in front of the door.
I didn’t want any unnecessary noise to attract Rosalyn’s attention and risk alerting her.
As I quietly waited, keeping an eye out—
“Camelia.”
“Yes?”
“Ready? I’ll start now.”
“Yes, please go ahead.”
Ashley began infusing the magic circle with mana, causing it to spin.
According to her, the magic circle would start putting anyone inside the room to sleep.
I had never seen this magic before, so I wasn’t exactly sure how it worked.
At least, it wasn’t something you would find in textbooks.
Several layers of the magic circle rotated and gradually faded away.
It seemed the operation was complete.
“…Hmm.”
I knocked once, just in case.
Ashley had said they would sleep quietly for a few hours, but one could never be too sure.
“…It’s quiet.”
“This is a reliable magic, so you can rest easy.”
“Okay.”
Thus, I carefully approached Rosalyn’s door.
Even though I knew she should be asleep, I opened the door quietly.
“…She’s sleeping well.”
As soon as I stepped inside, I saw Rosalyn lounging comfortably in her chair.
She had apparently just changed into her pajamas not long ago and was getting ready for bed.
I thought I could have snuck in, but this was definitely the safer approach.
“…The letter first.”
Even though my eyes kept wandering, I knew that my priority was the letter from the Rose Family.
No matter what, that was the crucial part of my mission.
Yeah.
As I entered the room, my gaze drifted away, but I kept my focus on the letters.
“I found it.”
I spotted the letter I had confirmed earlier.
It was still inside the envelope. What on earth could it contain?
No matter how I thought about it, I couldn’t guess.
Rosalyn’s reaction had been anything but ordinary for something that simply asked her to come back.
“…….”
I made sure Rosalyn was still asleep before deciding to read the letter.
I was curious about what it could say.
“…Hmm.”
As I pulled the letter out of the envelope, I was greeted by the scent of roses.
“The days have grown warmer, and the third rose in the family garden has begun to bloom. My daughter, Rosalyn…”
“…Oh.”
What an incredibly… impressive opening line.
This letter felt very different from the business letters our family used, almost like a genuine noble send-off.
I could feel the weight of history behind it.
Yet, it was clear that many families like ours were struggling in recent times…
“Let’s get to the point.”
Unlike our family letters, which got straight to the point, the introduction here was excessively lengthy.
Honestly, the beautiful phrases didn’t interest me, so I decided to skip ahead.
“It’s been four years since you left. As for that nouveau riche scoundrel…”
I felt a bit angry, but I could see why they’d write that.
First, let’s move on to what was more relevant.
“I was deeply saddened, but we are doing even better now. As central nobles, we are able to…”
This was essentially a note stating that our family had regained wealth thanks to Rosalyn marrying into it.
Sure, I understood that our family helped them rise up again, but I couldn’t grasp why they were being so condescending.
“Ugh.”
I didn’t realize I would have these thoughts.
I had no particular feelings toward Rosalyn, but surely, such thoughts about the Rose Family were off the mark?
If Rosalyn had been sold off, then maybe, but the Rose Family had offered the proposal first.
Why on earth were they sending this nonsense?
“Just how long until you return to the family?”
…Hmm.
It seemed that Rosalyn had been receiving such letters from the Rose Family for a while.
I had never heard her mention receiving any letters from them.
Just when did it start…
“…Ha.”
I thought there had been no correspondence from the Rose Family, but Rosalyn had a reason to keep such details from me.
“Unbelievable.”
Even if the Leonhardt family was titled a baron family, no amount of money could ever compare to the Roses’.
There was no competition between them and the affluent Ducal or Count families.
The Roses had been declining for decades now and were far removed from their former glory.
“Ha.”
I understood why they might think this way, but to send such a letter to Rosalyn…
“…Maybe it’s a good thing.”
While the Roses were pondering such matters and urging Rosalyn to return, she had never once been back to the Rose family.
Thus, I thought it was rather fortunate after all.
“Now that I think about it… I had never visited the Rose family.”
I had honestly never met the Roses.
When Rosalyn first came to our family, I was only eight years old, and we weren’t exactly powerful at that time.
“…Rosalyn was asked to return to her family.”
Although the letter contained a lot of distasteful content, its main theme was clearly urging Rosalyn to return to the Rose family.
“I guess I’ll have to visit them.”
As Rosalyn’s daughter, Camelia Leonhardt, I felt it was time to pay them a visit.
Even though I had never met them and had only heard of the Rose family, this time, I was genuinely displeased.
I wasn’t sure what Rosalyn truly thought about this, but she didn’t seem to be fond of this family’s attitude.
It should be fine.
Hopefully.
“Teacher.”
“Yawn… Is it all done…?”
“Yes. It’s all done.”
For now, our plan was complete.
Though new tasks had emerged…
