My Servant System

Chapter 1380: Boredom

Settling down again at the campfire, I let out a sigh and stared up at the vibrant, colorful sky above for a few seconds as I just got my mind right, clearing away the unnecessary things and just taking the time I needed.

Jahi had departed yet again for one of the Trials, taking Anput and Lady Fenyras with her as they went back for another combat oriented Trial to release even more of their pent up energy before we would eventually have to leave.

It was thanks to them deciding to head out again that I was able to lounge here and just think about what we were doing, something that immediately led to me believing that Draka was right and we were just being dumb.

I was getting tired of sleeping on some bedrolls, walking on eggshells around everyone because one wrong move on our part could arouse them, tired of having to cook every single night for people who were eating enough portions to feed a village...

I was just getting tired of this chapter of our life, and even though we were getting so many different and amazing things out here I just couldn't help but want it to be over so that we could move onto the other things.

Draka was experiencing something similar to this - albeit with a little more fear and reluctance - and clearly knew that I was having second thoughts as well as she just gave me that knowing look, making me sigh again as I just took in the pretty colors above us.

Thankfully she wasn't like the others who were always looking for the opportunity to gloat about something to me, so instead she just left me alone and wandered off towards another part of the campsite, letting me be in peace.

Though all that did was invite someone else over to speak to me instead, and the moment I saw that it was the older Demoness I just felt a mixture of amusement and curiosity as she sat down beside me quietly.

I maintained the silence and just gave her the go ahead to start whenever she wanted, though that ended up being almost a minute after she sat down as she just joined me in admiring the sky.

"I take it from your rather... bored and exhausted expression that you are regretting your earlier vote? As far as I am concerned yours was one of the most influential votes cast, no? We're all equal but you're just more equal than us, right?"

Her amused tone made me chuckle as I shrugged and said "You're not entirely wrong, but this is still a group decision. Everyone else wanted to stay a little longer - some more than others - but we know we need to leave soon. They just... want to have their fun is all."

"Fun... It is, to a degree. But still, I also understand the desire to head back. To stop... this... and just live life again. You do need to cherish it while you have it, dear. It slips by way too quickly for people like us."

Raising a brow and turning towards her, all I got was a rather wistful smile and a nod before she got up and left me be, just saying that small piece and giving me my space again, which I definitely wasn't opposed to.

"Like us..?"

But I wasn't allowed to be alone for long anyways, so Cali decided to give me company instead as she popped into existence right above me, sagely nodding and acting like she hadn't done something questionable earlier.

"She means powerful, highly sought after women. The constant chasing makes time pass by rather quickly..."

"I don't think that's what she meant, Cali..."

"That or the whole popping out a few kids and watching them grow before they have kids of their own, and then being so strong and having so many influential 'friends' that it becomes impossible to die via normal means so she just watches as everyone else gets older and lives their lives completely."

And then it all went from somewhat upbeat to way too deep and depressing, especially coming from someone who had lived through something similar enough; there was a hint of reality behind her words that was just impossible to ignore...

"Anyways! So, I kinda agree with the Ice Dragon lady girl! We should just leave now and be done with all of this 'cause things aren't gonna get any better~! If you want to give your special blood a new test you can always go somewhere else and battle some strong people or monsters, or if you have energy you wanna get rid of..."

She winked at me suggestively before beginning her favorite activity, which was floating around and flaunting her perfect curves as she waited for me to say anything at all... which I did, asking her "You seem rather determined to convince me... What's wrong?"

"Oh, y'know... Boredom really. Kinda not wanting to poke the big bad doggy with a stick for too long 'cause that's how you get a not so nice bite... I also just miss being able to float around civilization and watching as some loser pays for sex or seeing how desperate some women are to keep their partners around~! Y'know, the usual~!"

"Uh huh..."

Taking a deep breath and ignoring the Arch Fiend as she conveniently drifted into my line of sight over and over again, I wondered if I needed to feel as bored as I was or if there was anything at all that I could do to really capture my mind right now.

I just didn't really feel like doing anything at all right this moment, and even if I did do something that would take effort I just don't think it would be enough to keep me focused, so...

But then there was the point that thinking things were boring now would also cause things to become more engaging later on since that was just how life seemed to work, and honestly that was part of my hope and end goal here as I joined Cali in lamenting how boring this all was.
