Chapter 1370: Some More Questions
'Alright, just tell me more about this already! I want you to tell me instead of me just pulling up a page and reading it for myself, because then I am REALLY going to be easily distracted and forget about everything.'
[You already forget most things anyways, so why would it matter?]
'Why are you so much sassier than normal?!'
{Why have you forgotten to even just ask me 'Hey, have you been having a nice sleep?' or tell me to stop barraging you with notifications randomly?]
Another swift reminder that I was blessed to have something so incredible and yet I was so spoiled by it that I didn't even really use it that much consciously was definitely a good way to make me feel guilty.
[Not... Never mind, I won't lie and say that wasn't part of the goal. But it isn't as serious, I really am just tugging on your tail a little.]
I still frowned at that, not entirely 'happy' with myself because of my actions but realizing that I was becoming too much of a broken record at this point with all of the things I kept pushing off for future me to do...
[Anyways! The fun things about Fae blood is how random and potent it is. Anything related to the Fae is always shrouded in mystery and requires a lot of digging around to figure out the uses it has for its owner, but it is most definitely always worth it.
In your case you are lucky to have me since I can cut through the haze and tell you straight up what it is. Arctic Faehound's are a very old and rare group of incredibly talented and magically inclined Caninekin that lived in the arctic - surprise, I know - and isolated themselves using blizzards.
They worked with the arctic to keep themselves separated from everyone else, and in doing so they had a deeper understanding of what the world wanted when it came to that sort of magic. You see, the way you cast Domain spells is by forcing the world to change itself to your bidding. They gave it what it wanted and reaped the result.
That part you will have to work out on your own, but everything else - the increased mana capacity, purity, regeneration as well as the control - will come to you naturally. That also includes the potential unlocking of Fae Magic, which is far closer to the kind of magic you always dreamed of.]
'You mean the unrestricted and free kind of magic where I could cast fireball right after I blasted someone with a deep, bone chilling blast of frozen air? That kind of magic?'
[Yes and no again. Yes it's more free and 'fluid' in how you use it, no it isn't going to grant you access to all of the elements. You are an ARCTIC Faehound after all. Water and Wind are still your bread and butter.]
'That's kinda boring... and not that impressive. At least, I would say that if I didn't have whatever the hell this thing on my neck is. Great, another thing I need to figure out slowly but surely... Can we get some kind of time chamber to train in? One I can take anywhere and that doesn't have stupid challenges tied to it?'
[...]
'Is... is that a thing in the store?'
Before I could even get my hopes up the screen for the System Shop just faded away immediately, with the System itself saying [Yes, it is, but it is only going to make you depressed if you see the price. Just enjoy the idea of the beautiful, expensive car and ignore the cost behind it...]
That was all I needed to hear to know that I was definitely not getting that anytime soon even with all of the things I have been doing, which of course made me immensely curious on why it was even there in the first place if it was so unobtainable.
Which led me towards my actual question as I asked 'What do you know about that Stairway thing we encountered? Is that something you were aware of? Is that why something that expensive can exist; I have to 'ascend' to this new world and do more things there to get something that crazy?'
[I... was aware of it, yes, and if you hadn't ever come here yourself it would have likely been something I slowly pushed you towards with incentives and other things. 'Ascension' is technically the next step in this story of yours.]
Hearing that made me pause, my eyes focusing again as I watched Jahi catch Lady Fenyras' fist before throwing her own hook, the two forgetting about the grappling and heading straight for sparring as they relished the rush of adrenaline that came from this fight.
I didn't know how to approach this subject at all, for a myriad of reasons; I wasn't certain what we were going to do in the future, I wasn't certain what I wanted to do going forwards, and I was also not sure what opinion the System was going to have about this since... well...
'And... if I never decide to 'ascend', what happens then..? Would I be forced into it even if my lovers don't want it? Am I going to have this choice made for me to continue the 'story' that Reincantra wants from me?'
For a few moments there was just silence in my mind, something that I usually appreciated but something I was dreading right now, so when I heard the System begin to speak again I was incredibly aware of the tone it took.
How it sounded just as unsure as I was and how there seemed to be a bit of a push towards me potentially convincing the others to take the risk and rise up into this new, dangerous world to continue things on, to begin this next chapter of my life - of our lives.
[You wouldn't be forced, no, but... I don't know how much function I would be able to provide in the face of such stagnation. I am also not entirely certain what is and isn't the goal of my creator, or what is deemed a good 'story'.]
