My Servant System

Chapter 1344: Group Onslaught (8)

The collision between the Demoness and the Chimera was... well, explosive was what I was expecting already, and yet the amount of energy that was forced together the moment that attack landed was beyond what I could have envisioned.

Cerulean flame crashing against a chain of crackling lightning already would cause explosions, but the sheer potency of both of those things were apparently higher than I was prepared for, since the space around the Demoness and the Chimera simply went blue the instant they collided.

And I don't just mean a flash of blue that made it somewhat painful to look at, or a blue that still showed the figures inside just in a hazy or slightly obscured way; everything around them just crackled with power as the blue fire and electricity merged together and exploded, shrouding them in a sphere of energy that was hard to look at.

A sphere of pure heat that lingered for one second, then another, then another... it just remained there for far too long, taking up far more time than we had spent on getting them into this collision course together.

Immediately I was worried, but approaching the sphere was impossible as the raw heat it exuded mixed with the rampant, wild mana that thrashed around wildly, scorching the sand as it turned it to glass while the air just... shifted.

The boom that was released upon their contact was like a cannon being fired with you inside of it, causing my ears to ring in unholy ways while also throwing me off balance as my head went wonky.

With my vision impaired alongside my hearing, I was rendered useless and thrust into a crazy spot that scared me tremendously as the question of what happened to Mom rattled around my already rattled skull.

Leone and Draka were in the same spot as I was, meaning that Mom was truly on her own in that blue sphere, which had seared itself into my eyes for the time being as I tried to flush everything out of my body to return to normal.

By the time that the impairments finally were fading away from my body, I was able to see that the blue sphere was flickering out of existence, allowing me to see glimpses of Mom batting away the heavy paws of the Chimera as they remained locked in a dangerous tango of steel, fur and claws.

As soon as I could see again I began to weave together a heavy hitting spell to support her, which took the shape of the most crude yet effective thing I could think of; a gigantic chunk of ice bristling with crystalline shards ready to deal immense blunt damage to the Chimera.

Launching that at the Chimera like I was operating a trebuchet, I wasn't at all surprised to see another bolt of flames streaking out towards the monster as well, though this one was a brilliant pale yellow that was bordering on white.

The instant that the boulder of ice and the bolt of flame slammed into the Chimera's electric fur the monster was forced back a step, freeing up a breath for Mom as she kicked off of the Chimera's snout and launched herself backwards.

Rejoining us, the Demoness rolled out her shoulders again and let out a sigh of relief as soon as Draka draped her in an Ice Cloak, helping to heal any of her wounds and soothe her body now that she was back to 'safety'.

"Thanks. That was... something. I did open up a wound, but the damn thing cauterized it immediately..."

"Did it cauterize the wound, or did the blade of fire you swing around cauterize the wound?"

Mom at least had the grace to look sheepish as Leone dryly pointed that out, the initial plan that she had of creating a source of the monster's blood for Leone to use as a weapon failing thanks to this very simple oversight.

"Let's not discuss the specifics on how this happened, yeah? Hey Kat, wanna give me some of that ice of yours to let me serrate the bastard in front of us? And maybe this time we uh... prepare for that random storm of energy, alright?"

"What did happen..?"

The monster was growling at us from afar, licking at the burnt flesh along its flank while also concentrating some more Lightning Mana around the wound to protect it going forwards, something that definitely drained the defenses around the rest of the monster's body.

"Don't really know. My mana clashed against the monster's and then it just... exploded around us. Didn't damage me too much since it was most likely a byproduct of my impact against it, but still... my ears are still ringing a little."

Encasing her weapon in a thick block of ice, I also prepared my own weapons only to have her shake her head as she added "How about you three stay back and focus on support and ranged attacks, hm?", stepping forwards and leaving us behind her.

It was frustrating to be told that, but as she launched herself forwards again to meet the monster up close, I had to shelve that irritation and just prepare another spell, like Leone and Draka had to as they remained back with me.

Leone was more accustomed to this than me, but it barely helped me since I was yearning for the rush of close combat at the moment this stung a little, though as I watched the Demoness and the Chimera engage in a very rapid exchange of blows that were just a tad too fast for me, I had to concede 'defeat' here.

Besides, this was an opportunity to flex my magical prowess as I began to string together spell after spell, impeding the Chimera's movements and opening up various spots for Mom to strike at as she ducked beneath the swings of that monster's giant paws or dodged around the hungry bites from its maw.
