My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 68: Chapter 69: Water Style Kurenai

After dinner, Haneul followed Tsunade out. Half an hour later, he met Maruboshi Kosuke. He was wearing a gray flak jacket and carrying a large black wok and several spatulas on his back. He looked less like a ninja and more like a chef. Unlike in the original story, his left leg was not yet crippled. Seeing the wok, Haneul was reminded of the "Pot-kage," Danzo Shimura.

"Lady Tsunade?" Kosuke was stunned, a surprised look on his face.

"Kosuke, long time no see," Tsunade said, patting Haneul's head. "This is my student, Haneul."

"Uncle Kosuke," Haneul greeted him.

"I've heard of you," Kosuke nodded with a smile. "Lady Tsunade has found herself a fine student."

"I came today to ask you to teach him Konoha-Style Kenjutsu," Tsunade said, getting straight to the point after the pleasantries.

"No problem," Kosuke agreed without the slightest hesitation.

"Thank you," Tsunade said, secretly relieved that it went so smoothly.

"Don't mention it, Lady Tsunade," Kosuke waved his hand. "The Second Hokage never held anything back with me. How could I dare?" He was referring to the Water Style: Water Dragon Bullet Technique. The original version had forty-four hand seals, but in the hands of Tobirama and himself, it only required three and six seals, respectively.

"Lady Tsunade, does Haneul have a foundation in swordsmanship?" Kosuke quickly slipped into the role of a teacher.

"He does," Tsunade answered.

"Then let's have a spar first," Kosuke suggested. "It's easier to understand each other in battle."

"Haneul," Tsunade instructed, "use your full strength." She also wanted to see her student's swordsmanship. Although she was his teacher, she had only taught him medical ninjutsu and Monstrous Strength. His kenjutsu and genjutsu had been taught by Shinku Yuhi, so she wasn't very familiar with them.

"Okay," Haneul said, drawing his samurai sword.

"Watch out!" Kosuke drew a ninja sword and charged.

Clang! An immense force made Kosuke's arm tremble. As expected of Tsunade's student! he thought in amazement, but he remained unfazed.

The two engaged in a close-quarters sword fight. The clang of steel on steel rang out continuously. In less than a minute, they had exchanged dozens of blows. Tsunade raised an eyebrow. Haneul's swordsmanship was at a higher level than she had imagined. She realized she still knew too little about him.

"Let's stop here," Kosuke said, taking two steps back to create distance. He only wanted to gauge Haneul's skill, not have a real match, so there was no need to determine a winner.

"How was he?" Tsunade asked.

"Lady Tsunade, you were too humble just now. This is more than just a 'foundation'," Kosuke said with emotion. "In terms of Konoha-Style Kenjutsu, there is little more I can teach him."

Tsunade couldn't help but smile. Praising Haneul was like praising her, not that she cared much about it. This kid was truly something.

"I created my own technique by combining genjutsu and kenjutsu, the Konoha-Style: Willow. I can teach him that," Kosuke said after some thought.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Kosuke," Tsunade said. This was exactly what she had wanted Haneul to learn.

"It's no trouble at all. I should be thanking you, Lady Tsunade," Kosuke laughed. "I was always worried that Konoha-Style: Willow would be lost. Now I don't have to worry!" Although Konoha-Style Kenjutsu was a basic style, genius ninja disdained to learn it, and ordinary ninja found it difficult to master, so he couldn't find a student.

"Haneul, for a while, come to Kosuke to learn swordsmanship when you have time," Tsunade said, then added as a reminder, "Behave yourself."

"Mhm," Haneul really wanted to retort, Do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me? He was a very well-behaved student; his record at the Academy could prove it.

After Tsunade left, Kosuke began to explain his Konoha-Style: Willow. Simply put, it involved first using swordsmanship, then activating a genjutsu to blur one's own figure and bind the enemy, and finally attacking from a blind spot. It was quite difficult, only slightly less so than Monstrous Strength.

Three days later, at the Ninja Academy.

Haneul opened his Trait System.

[A-Rank Ninjutsu Trait: Konoha-Style: Willow]

Activation Condition: Successfully execute the technique.

Current Progress: 5%.

Both were A-Rank, but his progress with Monstrous Strength was much slower because he had no bonus to his taijutsu talent, unlike his genjutsu and kenjutsu. Haneul estimated he could learn Konoha-Style: Willow in a month or two.

"Haneul!" Kurenai's voice pulled him back to reality. He looked at her. She had puffed out her cheeks and looked unhappy. "What's wrong?" Haneul reached out and poked her cheek. It was soft, like a balloon.

"Where have you been the last few days? Why haven't you been training with us?" Kurenai asked with a pout.

"I was learning swordsmanship from a senior," Haneul said. His eyebrow suddenly shot up. "Kurenai, do you want to learn Water Style?" He knew she had a water affinity. And he also needed to farm a Water Style talent. More importantly, Kosuke was perhaps the most skilled Water Style user in Konoha besides Hiruzen, since he had been taught by Tobirama.

"Water Style?" Kurenai was taken aback and said hesitantly, "But I'm already slow at learning genjutsu."

"Just try it," Haneul said with a smile. "Besides, if you only have genjutsu, your future potential won't be very high." Genjutsu in the ninja world had a fatal weakness: it could be broken by a comrade. In other words, in a one-on-one fight, an ordinary genjutsu user could hold their own, but they were at a disadvantage against multiple opponents. The Uchiha clan was an exception.

"If my dad heard you say that, he'd scold you," Kurenai said, rolling her eyes at him.

"And will you tell him?" Haneul asked, twirling a strand of her hair.

"N-no," Kurenai felt her heart beating a little faster.

"You're the best, Kurenai," Haneul said softly.

"Of course!" Kurenai looked at him. "I would never betray you!"

Not far away, Asuma Sarutobi glanced at them. Although he had given up on Kurenai, seeing Haneul's flirtatious behavior, he still silently muttered, Jerk! But they were a match made in heaven; who was he to object?

"Let's go," after class, Haneul took Kurenai to Maruboshi Kosuke's house.

"Uncle Kosuke, hello, I'm Kurenai Yuhi," she greeted him politely.

"Shinku's kid's daughter?" Kosuke looked her over and sighed. "I can't believe his daughter is already this big."

"You know my dad?" Kurenai asked in surprise.

"We were temporary teammates on a mission once," Kosuke explained.

Kurenai was secretly relieved. It's easier to talk if they know each other. She glanced at Haneul, summoned her courage, and asked, "Uncle Kosuke, can I ask you to teach me Water Style?"

"Water Style?" Kosuke's eyes lit up. "You've come at the perfect time. I have nothing left to teach Haneul, and I was getting bored." Haneul's talent was astounding. He had already taught him everything he needed to know about Konoha-Style: Willow; the rest was just a matter of practice.
