Chapter 61: prideful one pt1.
(Geri POV)
It's been 2 days since the incident in the Wrath Ring, and my injuries finally healed up.
I was now in my room, changing into some training clothes. Dad said he was going to pick me up and start my training once I was done changing.
As I finally finished changing clothes, I stepped out of my room and headed to the rooftop where Dad was waiting for me.
As usual, he was sitting on his favorite plastic chair, staring off into the city — in his left hand, his katana, and in the other, a can of white Monster energy drink.
As he was drinking from the can, I stepped by his side and waited for him to finish.
When he finally finished, he crushed the can in his hand and threw it off the side of the hotel. It landed in the recycling bin below.
"Are you ready, son?" he said, still looking at the city.
"Yup."
"Good." He then picked up his blade — scabbard still attached — and swung at me.
I quickly avoided the swing and stepped back.
"Whoa! What the hell, Dad?!"
"Your reflexes are good. If I had hit you, your training would've been cut short."
He then got up from his chair. The chair slowly disappeared as he turned around.
"Show me what you can do."
I raised my fists and summoned my gauntlets.
Dad cracked a small smile and rushed me. He swung his scabbard at my head.
I quickly blocked with my gauntlets and retaliated with a leg sweep, aiming to disrupt his balance.
Dad avoided it by jumping up. He placed his foot on my face and did a backflip to create some distance.
I was dazed for a few seconds, and by the time I got my bearings, he had already closed the distance.
He swung his scabbard at my head again. I tried to block, but at the last second he adjusted the trajectory of the blade, hitting the side of my chest.
I staggered for a split second — and in that split second, he raised his right arm and punched me in the chest.
The blow sent me flying, but Dad quickly grabbed the collar of my shirt and slammed me into the ground with enough force to knock the wind out of my lungs.
I gritted my teeth as pain spread across my back.
As I lay there on the ground, wheezing, Dad stepped closer and sat next to me.
"You alright?"
"You slammed me on concrete with enough force to leave a crater. What do you think?"
He just laughed and stood up again. He leaned down and offered his hand.
I raised my arm, and Dad helped me up.
"I see you're strong, son, but you lack training and motivation."
"I can see that."
"Hmm. While you're much stronger than most of the beings in Hell, you lack control and proper training."
"I know, Dad. But is it really necessary to beat me up as training?"
"Oh, that wasn't training. That was a skill check."
"What?"
"I needed to see how powerful you were and what your limit was."
"So... are you going to train me for real now?"
"Nope. You'll be training with the Sins."
"What?! Like the actual Sins?!"
"Yes. I was able to get them to agree in exchange for a few favors."
"When did you have the time to set this up?"
"When you were still bedridden. Anyways, clean yourself up — we'll be leaving to your first trainer once you're ready."
I nodded and fixed my clothes.
"I'm ready."
He nodded and opened a portal.
We stepped through the portal, but in the shadows, two small figures entered as well without us knowing.
---
(Lucifer's Castle)
As we stepped through, a towering castle stood before us.
"Dad, where are we?"
"We're currently in front of your Lord Lucifer's home."
"Grandpa?"
"Yes. Once you enter the castle, make sure to listen to everything he says, okay?"
I nodded.
He smiled and opened the portal once more.
"Good luck, son. Make sure you learn a lot from him, alright?"
"Of course, Dad."
He nodded and stepped through the portal, which then closed behind him.
I stared at where the portal used to be for a few seconds before turning to the iron gates of the castle. I walked to one of the guards, and they both bowed to me respectfully.
I nodded to them, and they opened the gates for me. I walked through, looking around the surroundings and seeing a beautiful garden, with a single apple tree in the middle.
Once I finally reached the castle's main entrance, I knocked for a few seconds and one of the servants opened the doors.
"Greetings, Lord Geri. Lord Lucifer is awaiting you in his workshop."
"Thank you."
As I stepped inside and entered the castle, one of the servants began to lead me to Grandfather's workshop.
As I walked through the castle's halls, I noticed many paintings — most of them were images of Mom and her family.
I noticed one of the paintings had Mom wearing a really dark outfit. It looked like something a goth girl would wear.
I took one good look at the painting and continued walking, but as soon as I turned the corner, I heard a very familiar laugh.
"Plagg. Show yourself."
Silence.
"I know you're watching me. Show yourself."
"I can see you."
Plagg then emerged from the wall with a frown.
"How could you see me through the wall?"
I just smiled.
"I lied."
He frowned and floated over to me, landing on my head.
"You know Beth's here as well."
"What?"
He then pointed to one of the windows. I walked towards it and saw Beth in the garden... eating grass.
I sighed and called her.
She quickly looked up and flew to me.
I caught her, and she immediately began to sleep in my arms.
I looked down at her and brushed off some dirt.
After cleaning her up, I carried them both to the workshop where Grandfather was.
I opened the door and was immediately attacked by a flood of rubber duckies.
As I passed through the ocean of rubber duckies, I saw Grandfather standing over a table, making another rubber duck.
I greeted him, and he immediately turned around.
"Ah, Geri! Good to see you, my boy!"
"Good to see you too, Grandpa."
He smiled and gave me a hug. Then he looked up and saw Plagg sitting on my head and felt Beth wrapped around my chest.
"Ah! I didn't know you'd bring your siblings to train as well. Well, the more the merrier!"
"They're more like stowaways than anything."
He let go of me and snapped his fingers.
We were then teleported outside the castle — into an arena.
"Whenever you're ready," Grandfather said with a gentle smile.
I placed both of my siblings down, summoned my Beowulf Gauntlets, and got into fighting position.
The next second, I was laying on the ground. I couldn't even counterattack.
Grandfather stepped closer and smiled.
"Do you want pancakes or waffles?"
