My Manor

Chapter 349: Chapter 348: Mountain Lion Enters the Forest

Yes, this mountain lion is the same female that Jiang Hai caught last time.

This lioness sneaked into Jiang Hai's manor and attacked Qi Li, who was chatting with Jiang Hai. Fortunately, Jiang Hai was present; otherwise, it could have been a tragedy if anyone else had been there.

At that time, Jiang Hai had brought two dogs to subdue the lioness and then sent it to the stray pet center. How did it manage to escape again? The truth is, after Jiang Hai sent the lioness to the center, it was initially treated for its injuries. Once its wounds had almost healed, and considering that it was pregnant, the center decided that it would be best to release her back into the mountains. So, last week, she was returned to the Appalachian Mountains.

However, to everyone's surprise, the lioness made her way back to Jiang Hai's manor shortly after being released.

This isn't entirely the lioness's fault. Anyone who hasn't been to Jiang Hai's manor would be hard-pressed to understand how appealing it is here.

Although Jiang Hai only strengthened the spiritual energy of the grass for his cattle, many other herbivores also graze on it. While large animals and humans can't enter the fenced area, smaller herbivores like insects, rabbits, and mice often wander in. The environment here is so good that birds, weasels, foxes, snakes, owls, and similar creatures have settled in.

There used to be a lot of birds in Jiang Hai's forest, which he didn't mind. But if he were to count them now, he'd find that there are at least three times more than last year.

The lioness's attack on Jiang Hai and Qi Li was mainly because she was pregnant and had come to see the manor as her territory. However, Jiang Hai made it clear that he was the boss there.

This did not stop the lioness from returning. If the pasture didn't satisfy her, she would go into the forest.

The grass in the pasture is rich in spiritual energy, and the animals that feed on it also benefit from it.

A few days ago, the lioness had been hunting rabbits and mice, so she had learned how much energy these animals contained.

This spiritual energy not only fills her up but also enhances her intelligence and agility. She's certain that once her cubs are born, they will be exceptionally strong.

It is because of this that she views this place as her nursery. Once her cubs are born, she probably won't leave. There are no other large carnivores around, and she has no natural predators—it's the perfect haven for her.

This is why, after being released, she swam around the coastline to come back.

But no one could have predicted that, just a few days after settling into her new home, she'd run into humans again—specifically, the man who had once defeated her. Upon seeing Jiang Hai, the lioness froze. After experiencing Jiang Hai's strength, she was more cautious. She watched him from the bushes, but when she realized he wasn't moving, fear crept in. She knew she couldn't defeat him, especially with his two large dogs.

So, after shaking her tail, she turned and ran back into the forest.

Although Jiang Hai was on alert, the lioness was more afraid of him. As soon as she was out of sight, she disappeared into the woods.

Seeing her leave, Jiang Hai frowned. This beast may not have any desire to attack him now, but who knows what might happen in the future?

"It looks like I'll have to search the net," Jiang Hai muttered to himself as he opened the car door.

"Nothing happened?" Feng Yunchen asked anxiously as he looked at Jiang Hai, who had opened the car door.

"You saw it too. What could have happened? It's just a big cat. Let's continue filming; it probably won't come back," Jiang Hai said casually, eyeing the retreating lioness.

However, after Feng Yunchen and Ai Xiaoxi got out of the car, Jiang Hai deliberately walked around, retrieving the Desert Eagle from the back of the car and strapping it to his waist. He wasn't sure if the lioness would return, but if she did, he'd make sure she'd get a taste of the bullet. Though Jiang Hai was reluctant to kill her, if she kept threatening his estate, he might have no other choice. Fortunately, the lioness seemed to have no intention of returning and didn't show up again.

The rest of the filming went smoothly. Feng Yunchen was initially uneasy but eventually relaxed as the day went on. After a full afternoon of shooting, they finally finished. After packing up and changing clothes, the three of them headed back to the villa. Still, Feng Yunchen couldn't shake his fear.

"Hey, Robbins!" Seeing him, Jiang Hai felt a twinge of worry. Just as he returned, he saw Robbins-Garcia, who had already brought the cattle back and was about to head home for dinner. He called out loudly.

"Hey, boss, is something wrong?" Robbins-Garcia, riding a horse, stopped when he heard Jiang Hai's voice. He comforted his horse, which had been startled by the car's arrival, and asked Jiang Hai.

"Remember that mountain lion we caught? It's back again. I just saw it in the woods. Looks like we'll have to find a time to send it away again." Jiang Hai sighed helplessly.

"It's back again? How did it come back? The border nets have been fine lately. Did it swim or fly in?" Robbins was stunned. The cowboys were responsible for managing the land fences, and they had no idea how the lioness got in.

"Maybe it came in along the seashore." Jiang Hai wasn't entirely sure, but without a seine net, the lioness could have swum into the estate through the ocean. If that's the case, he'd need to set up a cordon along the coastline. But this wouldn't require people—just fish.

He had a natural bodyguard in the form of Dasha, his shark. Dasha had nothing to do, so he could patrol the area. Jiang Hai hadn't seen Dasha in a while, so he planned to check on him later.

"That could be it. If that's the case, it'll be a problem. If we drive it away, it could come back." Robbins-Garcia sighed. Jiang Hai's estate was vast, with the sea area much larger than the land. The coastline stretched far, all under Jiang Hai's jurisdiction.

Jiang Hai couldn't enclose the entire ocean with a fence unless he used a purse seine, which would be too expensive. Additionally, many of Jiang Hai's fish, like sardines, are migratory, and using a purse seine would disrupt their movement. This was a big issue for him.

"So be it. I'll handle the ocean issues myself. As for catching the mountain lion, we'll try to do it in the next few days," Jiang Hai said confidently, waving it off. The mountain lion was his main concern.

The lioness hadn't hurt anyone or his livestock yet, but what about in the future? When winter came, and snow covered the land, most animals would hibernate. If the lioness couldn't find food, she would have no choice but to leave the forest and either sneak attack his cattle or his workers.

Cattle are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and people are even more invaluable. Jiang Hai couldn't afford to take that risk.

"Okay, we'll wait until the first batch of cattle is released. Mr. Zhang and Miss Walton are expected in the next couple of days. Once the cattle are out, we'll send three people here, and the boss will go to Edward Anderson for a few more." Robbins-Garcia calculated the timing.

"Agreed time? Did they really agree to the time in these two days?" Jiang Hai asked. Now that Robbins mentioned it, Jiang Hai realized he had forgotten that Zhang Dehai and Pra Walton would be coming soon to collect the first batch of cattle. The timing had indeed been set in the previous call, and Jiang Hai felt a little embarrassed.

After speaking with Robbins for a few more minutes, Jiang Hai drove back to his villa.

After dropping Feng Yunchen and Ai Xiaoxi off at the villa and letting them rest, Jiang Hai headed to the dock again.

He still needed to discuss the mountain lion situation with Edward Anderson and check on Dasha. It had been almost a month since he last saw his big shark, and he was curious about how much it had grown.
