My Kekkei Genkai Is Kinda Weird?!

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Reinforcements Arrive

At the critical moment, Shinji's three-tomoe Sharingan spun wildly.

"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"

A scorching wall of fire vaporized the Water Prison, but Shinji collapsed from exhaustion. The Mist jonin redirected his kunai toward Shinji's throat—

Clang!

Shisui's short blade barely intercepted the strike. In that life-or-death instant, the single tomoe in his eye seemed on the verge of splitting into two.

Rin seized the moment and formed hand seals:

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

Four clones lunged at enemies in different directions, while the real Rin pressed her palms to the ground:

"Earth Release: Yellow Springs Swamp!"

The earth beneath the jonin's feet suddenly turned to sludge, but he quickly countered with a water-walking technique. Rin's true body had already closed in, her short blade aiming straight for his heart.

"Too slow," the jonin sneered and sidestepped—only for his eyes to widen.

Rin's figure vanished before him and reappeared to his left. Her blade slashed down, and though he barely raised an arm to block—

"Ah!" The strike nearly severed his left arm.

First mark: Applied.

Rin spun with the momentum and flung three wire-tethered shuriken with her left hand. The moment the jonin raised his weapon to block, the wires coiled tightly around his wrist.

Second mark.

"Got you." Rin yanked hard on the wires, propelling herself into the air. As the jonin tried to break free, Shisui's Phoenix Fire cut off his retreat.

Rin's knee slammed into the jonin's chest. Her right hand pressed against his forehead protector.

"Third mark—Detonate!"

A violent blast erupted inside the jonin's body. Blood gushed from his mouth as he staggered backward. Rin's blade drove into his abdomen—but she was struck by a fierce elbow in return. A crisp crack sounded from her left arm.

"Rin!" Shisui tried to help, but was locked in combat with two chunin.

More Mist ninja began closing in—the situation was dire.

"Fire Release: Great Dragon Flame Bullet!"

A familiar roar pierced the fog. Three flaming dragons tore through the mist. Uchiha Hachidai had arrived with reinforcements. His three-tomoe Sharingan glowed blood-red in the steam.

"Fall back and tend to your wounds," he ordered after glancing at Rin's broken arm. His hands flew through seals:

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"

A massive fireball drove the enemy back. The newly arrived Uchiha quickly spread out, their crimson eyes forming a deadly web in the mist.

Rin gritted her teeth and set her broken bone. The green glow of medical chakra barely dulled the pain. Staggering over to Shinji, she poured chakra into his wounds without hesitation.

The tide of battle reversed in an instant. Under Hachidai's command, the Uchiha formed three-man teams, coordinating their fire jutsu to suppress the Mist forces. One last jonin attempted to flee but was trapped in genjutsu by Hachidai's Sharingan—then engulfed in flames.

When the last traces of mist dispersed, the forest was littered with charred corpses. Hachidai counted their forces, face grim.

"One dead, two seriously injured." The deceased was one of the nameless genin; the wounded were Shinji and a rear guard chunin.

His gaze fell on Rin's bandaged left arm.

"The medic did well."

Rin nodded silently and glanced at the corpse of the genin who had died from a water blade piercing his heart. Shisui stood beside her, his Sharingan deactivated, his expression weary and somber.

Loss always forces people to grow quickly—on the battlefield, loss is everywhere.

"Clean up the battlefield," Hachidai sheathed his sword.

"The Mist's vanguard has been wiped out—but this war is just beginning."

The squad retreated to a hidden clearing at the edge of the forest to rest. Rin quickly treated Shinji and the wounded chunin with medical ninjutsu, then tended to her own arm.

Uchiha Hachidai stood on a raised rock, his three-tomoe Sharingan scanning the area. After confirming no pursuit, he gave his orders:

"Rest here for one hour. Guard shifts in rotation."

The Uchiha quickly dispersed—some keeping watch, others tending to wounds or chewing on soldier pills in silence. Rin leaned against a tree and closed her eyes. The exhaustion from high-intensity combat and sprinting made her dizzy.

Shinji, clutching his wounded abdomen, sat beside Hachidai and whispered,

"Hachidai… that medic… she's not ordinary."

Hachidai glanced at him,

"She saved your life. You have a problem with that?"

Shinji shook his head, his three-tomoe Sharingan faintly spinning.

"Her shuriken technique—it's Uchiha style."

Hachidai frowned.

"Are you sure?"

"I saw it myself." Shinji lowered his voice.

"Her shuriken collided mid-air, then changed trajectory and hit targets with precision. That technique requires a Sharingan—but she doesn't have one."

Hachidai's eyes drifted toward Shisui, his thoughts unreadable.

Shinji continued,

"And the jutsu she used at the end—it was strange. It seemed to cause internal damage directly."

Hachidai was silent for a moment, then scoffed coldly:

"The Third Hokage's disciple… no wonder."

Shinji hesitated, then added,

"Her fighting style… doesn't feel like that of a pure medical ninja."

"Obviously." Hachidai sneered.

"Since when does the Hokage train medics? Have you seen medics dive headfirst into enemy ranks like her?"

Shinji gave a helpless laugh,

"I just mean… she's probably hiding something."

Hachidai narrowed his eyes. In the shadows, his crimson Sharingan gleamed coldly.

"Whatever she's hiding—it has nothing to do with us."

Shinji nodded and said no more.

On the other side, Shisui walked over and sat beside Rin, handing her a soldier pill.

"Thanks." Rin took a bite, wincing slightly at the bitter taste.

Shisui looked at her bandaged arm and asked softly,

"Is your arm… okay?"

Rin smiled faintly.

"Just a minor injury. I've already treated it—it'll be fine by tomorrow."

Just then, Hachidai's voice rang out:

"All units, prepare to move out!"

Rin and Shisui stood simultaneously. The squad reassembled. Hachidai stood at the front, his gaze sweeping over the team, pausing briefly on Rin.

"The Mist vanguard has been destroyed, but their main force will react soon." His voice was cold.

"Our mission is to go deeper—scout their defenses and provide intel for the main force."

He paused, then added:

"Medic, stay in the center of the formation. No more charging into enemy ranks on your own."

He had to give the Hokage some face—if Hanabuchi Rin got killed under his watch, the Hokage would use it as a reason to make trouble for the Uchiha.

Rin nodded obediently.

"Yes, captain."

Hachidai grunted and turned to lead the way.

Shisui walked beside her and said quietly,

"Hachidai-senpai seems… wary of you."

Rin smiled.

"Understandable. I'm the Hokage's student—and the Uchiha have always had… complicated feelings toward the Hokage's faction."

Shisui fell silent, then murmured,

"The Uchiha and the village… it shouldn't be like this."

Rin glanced at him but said nothing.

So, he's already dreaming of peace between the Uchiha and the village?

If you asked her, the only way for that to happen… was for someone else to take the Hokage's seat.
