My Idle System

Chapter 274: Chaos at the Station (2)

Christian simply swung his arm.

It was just a single motion. Swift. Almost casual.

But it was enough.

The blade sliced cleanly through the air, cutting straight through the abomination's thick neck. The creature didn't even have time to react before its head was severed from its grotesque, twitching body.

It collapsed with a heavy thud, its mutilated body twitching slightly before going still. The severed head rolled a short distance before coming to a stop, leaking a thick, black blood that hissed faintly as it touched the cold concrete.

Its twisted muscles slowly deflated. The bulging veins that pulsed across its limbs went still. Under the glow of the station lights, the warped flesh glistened—shiny, raw, and sickly, as if scorched from the inside out.

A one-second battle, if it could even be called that.

Eva, seeing that the situation had been resolved before the DSA even had a chance to arrive, walked over and stopped beside him. Her gaze lingered on the abomination's corpse, her curiosity overriding any discomfort. She crouched slightly, studying its grotesque features.

Christian, not paying much attention to her, turned his focus to more pressing matters.

"Iris, take control of any nearby devices… don't let a single picture of me or Eva be taken," he ordered calmly, tapping the small earpiece in his ear.

[Immediately.]

Around them, the screams were beginning to fade. The people who had moments ago been running for their lives, crying in fear, now hesitated. Their eyes turned toward the figure who had slain the monster in a single stroke. Shocked silence followed… then a few brave ones made a move.

Phones were raised. Fingers shook, but still they tapped the screens. Some captured photos of the grotesque body, others pointed their lenses at Christian… silent and tall, his dagger still coated in flickering shadows.

The contrast was too much: a man who hadn't even broken a sweat, standing where death had just erupted seconds ago. The ground was soaked with ink-black blood, and yet he looked unbothered. That image burned itself into their memories… and into their devices, if not for Iris's interference.

He could have left it to the DSA. After all, it was their job to clean up messes like this. But there was no need for his face to be plastered across social media or passed around in government circles.

So, hearing Iris's confirmation, Christian paused for just a moment before giving another order.

"Bring the other car here as well."

[Understood.]

His gaze dropped once more to the corpse in front of him. Its size was impressive… definitely stronger than the usual ones. But that only made it more interesting. Pressing his finger against the small earpiece again, he spoke in a firmer tone, clearly addressing Iris.

"And also, call Nina and Alpha. Tell them to come here immediately. And have them bring one of the biological transport capsules… along with the other cases containing my mechanical components."

[Affirmative.]

Eva, who had been squatting beside the abomination, silently observing the grotesque transformation that had occurred just moments ago… a woman who might've weighed barely fifty kilos now turned into a hulking monstrosity of easily double that, maybe more, finally narrowed her eyes and looked up at him.

"You're not coming back with us?"

Christian coughed lightly under her gaze. And his reply came with an awkward smile. "You know… with everything happening, I figured it'd be better to go check on Zero directly. I want to do some upgrades and modifications on him while I'm at it, without waiting for him to come to the house."

Then, he added, "And it's… far from here. Might get a little risky."

Eva hummed in response, but didn't press further. She knew full well that if danger was involved, her presence could become a liability. She didn't like that truth… but she understood it.

So, in the face of his arrangement, she could only relent, even if her heart bristled against it.

Christian, sensing her silence and the subtle downturn of her gaze, stepped closer. Without another word, he gently wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest.

He knew she was sulking.

And he also knew why.

Her daughter had just returned to the Academy, leaving her feeling a little emptier. And now her man, too?

She wouldn't say it aloud, but she wanted love… more love than usual. Something she could feel. Something tangible, something deep.

He'd been with her long enough to understand those little signs. And oddly enough, this time, he was right on point.

So when Christian tilted her chin up and kissed her… right there beside the corpse, he did so without hesitation. He didn't care about the smell of blood lingering in the air, or the mutilated abomination barely a few steps away. He didn't care about the onlookers standing at a distance, watching them with conflicted expressions of confusion, horror… or envy.

His hand slid along her side, pressing against her even through her clothes. His fingers moved in ways she had long since grown familiar with. And all that dissatisfaction she'd been holding onto? It melted away under his touch. Dissolved under his kiss. As if it had never existed to begin with.

The dead abomination beside them oozed black blood in slow, thick globs. Its mangled flesh had begun to cool, stiffening where it had exploded in size.

And yet, just a few feet away… there was love.

Warm. Raw. Unapologetic.

That they were called a crazy couple?

To Eva, it felt more like a compliment than an insult.

"Cough."

Good moments, of course, never lasted long.

They broke apart reluctantly at the sound. Breaths ragged. Their lips parted slowly, and a thin string of saliva connected them for just a second longer before it broke.

Eva turned sharply, her eyes flashing with annoyance, lips slightly swollen, her gaze still glazed with the heat of lust.

But when she saw the approaching figures in black uniforms, she sighed and held herself back. She recognized who they were instantly.

The DSA had arrived.

So, in the end, Eva chose to be satisfied… with just this much. For now.

Of the three-person team approaching them, two men were awkwardly averting their gazes while stealing occasional glances at Eva. The lone woman in the group, who had been the one to cough with her fist to her lips a moment ago, looked at the pair before her with something close to admiration in her eyes.

Still, she had a job to do.

"Did you see who killed the 'monster' behind you?" she finally asked, her tone professional but tinged with curiosity.

Christian, who had been narrowing his eyes as he assessed the group's strength and aura, finally spoke. His voice carried annoyance, sharp and direct.

"Did you not think to ask the crowd before interrupting us?" he replied coldly. "And most importantly… tell your companions to stop staring at my woman. If they don't, I'll gouge their eyes out."

His tone left no room for misinterpretation. The two male agents flinched slightly, their gazes jerking away. But, hostility still started brewing inside them.

Eva, for her part, didn't seem affected by the stares. She wasn't one to dress provocatively, especially not since becoming Christian's woman. If anything, her style had become even more conservative, knowing well how possessive he could be.

But even in modest clothing… especially after sharing such a moment with him, she radiated a raw, magnetic allure that pulled the eyes of any man near her.

And Christian?

He never blamed her.

To him, the fault always lay with the ones who dared to look.
