Chapter 185: CyberOP Test (E)
"Enough with the useless talk. Specy, you drag a chair with you and sit at the back," Brown ordered while pointing his hand towards the wall on the other side.
Specy nodded and did as he was told.
Meanwhile, Brown made his way towards many switchboards that were there in the room and turned a particular switch on.
The next moment, the large screen that was hung on the wall in front of the rows of workstations turned on.
"This is the mother monitor and will be providing you with your tasks soon based on your ability," Brown stated as the huge screen was brought to life.
"My ability?" Jin asked. How would the computer know what his ability was.
Understanding his query, Brown answered, "Yes, your ability. Before this mother monitor start handing out tasks to you it will first analyse your level.
Take a workstation and open the application named "Cyber Test". You'll understand more clearly,"
Hearing him, Jin did as he was told and took the workstation which was in the middle.
He guided the cursor through the screen and opened the application named 'Cyber Test' the next moment.
While the application was loading, Brown explained, "The application checks one's level of computer knowledge and grades it from 1 to 10. An average person would have a grade between 2 or 3.
However, that's too low for you guys. I expect a minimum of 5 grading if not more. Otherwise, your test will end here and then with a failure.
Therefore, don't take this test lightly and do your best, understand?"
"Yes, sir!" Jin curbed down his overconfidence because of his upgraded IT knowledge from the system after hearing Brown out.
The test finally started.
"What is the full form of Http?"
Jin muttered the question and with a furrow answered it immediately.
'Is this even difficult?' Jin thought and answered the next question, which was "Name five programming languages"
Like this, the first five questions were very easy for Jin. However, his countenance soon turned serious with time as the difficulty of the answers rose each time.
Soon, it reached a point where he needed to find a bug in a small program and snowballed into him needing to even make a mini program to solve a complex mathematical problem.
'Isn't this too much?' Jin's eyebrows creased as though he knew the answers he needed to fully utilise his mental faculties to be able to answer them properly.
Time kept passing by and Brown observed everything from the side, looking at his watch from time to time.
For Jin, one hour got over in the blink of an eye as he was fully immersed in the answer-writing process the whole time.
Only when the 'Test Over' message popped on the screen that Jin take a sigh of relief.
PROCESSING
The test result was transferred to the mother monitor, which started processing the result.
GRADING: 9.5/10 (Master)
Even after knowing that Jin would score a good grade, he couldn't help but have his jaw wide open when he saw the result.
"9.5…freaking hell is that even humanely possible?" Brown said to himself.
There was no one who had ever managed to cross the grading threshold of 8.5 ever!
Meanwhile, when Jin noticed the grading, he sighed deeply in disappointment.
"If only my typing speed was faster," Jin mumbled to himself.
He knew the answer to the last question, which he was doing, but because of his slow speed, he was unable to fully complete the program.
Brown soon regained his composure and said with a cough.
"Alright, good job. Now the main stage of the Cyber Operations test would begin. You'll be shown three tasks on the mother monitor based on your skill level, one after the other.
You need to complete all of them for a perfect score of 100. Otherwise, based on your degree of completion, you will be scored. Any doubts?"
"No, sir," Jin replied.
"Alright, now click on the 'Proceed' button that should be on the bottom right of your screen," Brown instructed.
Jin did that, and the next momen,t the mother monitor's whole screen turned white and a task appeared on the screen.
First Task: Make a virus, exploit a zero-day vulnerability of desired application and steal the following amount of money in 1 hour.
Amount: 10,00,000 Draks
Fake account details:
Account number: 662589121771
Bank name: Trustee Bank
Money sent: 0
'What the hell is this test?!' Specy exclaimed in horror, 'Not only does it want him to find a zero day in an application within an hour, but also to exploit it and steal money!!'
Being knowledgeable as a former software developer, he knew how difficult it was to find a zero-day vulnerability in the system.
Most of those bugs were already patched up by the developers, and so even if such a bug existed, the probability of finding it was very minuscule.
Add to that the fact that Jin had only 1 hour to do all of this!
'Is this even humanely possible?' Specy thought to himself.
However, Jin's thoughts were quite unlike his.
The moment he read the task, many possibilities appeared in his mind because of his knowledge.
And he chose the path which he felt was the easiest.
First thing he did was to access the dark web through his workstation. After a simple search, he was able to find stolen data of thousands of people all around the globe.
He copied all their contact numbers and saved them first.
Then he created a program which he interlinked with a social messaging device, which was quite popular nowadays.
And following that, he created an account of an attractive-looking woman online with several enticing pictures on her page, which didn't go overboard.
Next thing he did was to take a random image from the internet, and in its code, he added a code which would become his virus the moment the other party downloads it.
After inputting the information into his program, it started operating the next moment.
All the numbers which Jin had saved were sent the following picture through that account with a message, "I'm a new artist, and here's my sample work. If you like it, then we can discuss more. <3"
Meanwhile, Jin busied himself in making another program to collect information that the virus would provide him and then use it to break into the unified payment interface and send money into the account that was shown to him.
Half an hour later, he was all set and waited for his seeds to bear fruit.
"The first prey is here," Jin chuckled as his program swept through the information in the target's device, collected banking details and then cleared his account.
Jin glanced at the mother monitor the next moment.
Money Sent: 50,000 Draks
A grin formed on Jin's face cause this was just the beginning. The next moment, twenty people fell into his trap, and the number soon jumped to a hundred.
Specy and Brown were completely dumbstruck by Jin's actions as their eyes focused on the money that kept increasing on the mother monitor.
