Chapter 139: Altering Perception (E)
The old lady looked displeased when Jin abruptly interrupted her. However, when she noticed Jin's confused and somewhat shocked expression, she regulated her emotions and answered.
"For work. She said that she was going to Miringham for work."
"Miringham?? Did she mention when she would be returning?" Jin immediately asked.
The old lady shook her head and said, "I did ask her about it, but she seemed unsure and just vaguely mentioned that it would be a few months."
"Is that so…I see," Jin muttered, struggling to get words out of his chest. His chest felt heavy for some reasons he couldn't pinpoint.
A sudden feeling rose within him. A feeling that he was never going to see Diana again.
At that time, the lady asked in a concerned manner, "Are you fine, Young man?"
"Hm? Oh yes, I'm fine. Thank you for your help," Jin replied and was about to turn away when he heard the lady's next words.
"Are you sure? I can give you some water if you want." She suggested looking at Jin with the same concerned expression.
"Ah, there's no need, thank you for your concern," Jin said and walked back down the apartment building to his car.
On the way back to his car, he felt a bit weird thinking about the lady's odd gaze, but he shook those thoughts away and entered his car.
It was only when his gaze met the rear-view mirror that he understood the reason behind the old lady's concerned look and words.
His now red eyes were almost flooded with tears.
It looked as if even a small movement was enough to break the surface tension which was holding the tears in place.
And that's what happened. Droplets of tears rolled down the confused face of Jin and soiled his clothes.
'Wait…why am I crying? Am I sad that Diana left? Jin thought to himself as he looked at his pitiable reflection in the mirror.
"Do I still love her?" Jin asked himself. If it were before, he would have immediately quashed such a question in his mind, but now that his mind was in utter chaos…he didn't know the answer.
He had been very sure of his love for Fana until this incident, but now his mind was filled with questions.
Jin immediately wiped off his tears and called the first name in his call history.
"Yes, Jin?" Fana's voice came from the other side of the phone.
Just hearing it made him feel so much better as he answered her, "Just wanted to hear your voice."
Sensing Jin's voice being a little different from normal Fana asked curiously "Are you alright? Why do you sound so different?"
"It's…" Fana's question was like a lever that had successfully opened the floodgates. Out came all the confusion Jin was facing in his mind after finding out about Diana.
Fana's brows furrowed when she heard this, but she let Jin complete. After hearing everything, she replied, "Jin, you're so nice. I'm so blessed to have a lover like you who still cares so much about her…However I don't think Diana would feel the same way as you,"
Fana's voice became serious at the end of her sentence. It made Jin ask her the next moment, "What do you mean?"
"I mean…" She sighed and continued, "Let's leave it, it would be better if you don't know about it."
Hearing this only fuelled Jin's desire to get to the bottom of it, "No, I want to know. Fana, please, tell me! Please!"
Hearing Jin pleading like this, a smile formed on Fana's face as she replied, "Since you're like this, it can't be helped…how about you visit me right now and I'll explain everything to you?"
"I'll be there in half an hour." With that, Jin turned on his car and drove towards Fana's villa as fast as he could.
*Ring*
"Come in," Fana, who was in a black sleeveless dress made from a lustrous material, welcomed him in.
Being in her presence delighted Jin and placated his wounded heart.
"Sit on the couch. I'll go and bring coffee," Fana said, and soon came back with two cups filled with warm coffee.
After giving a cup to Jin, she grabbed her own and sat next to Jin, gesturing him to take a sip.
"How's it? It's your first time trying my coffee, right?" Fana asked him.
"It's delicious," Jin replied after taking a few sips.
"Hehe, I'm glad you liked it," Fana chuckled and took a sip from her cup as well.
Jin couldn't hold himself back any longer and asked, "So could you tell me now. What did you mean in the call?"
Hearing Jin mention it, Fana's expression became solemn. She placed her cup on the centre table and replied, "From what you've told me, she is not responding to your calls and messages and has also left the country.
Taking all this into consideration, the most likely conclusion is…she was cheating on you and used the opportunity when you were away to run away with her lover,"
"No! That can't be…" Jin tried to refuse it, but Fana immediately countered, "Why can't it be? What else can be the reason for her blocking you all of a sudden? I know people like her, they are just in a relationship with celebrities like us for the thrill of it! That's why we celebrities tend to marry among our own,"
"No! Diana…she's different…she loved me…she couldn't do this-"
Before Jin could continue further, he felt Fana's hands on the sides of his head.
Fana turned his head such that Jin's eyes were looking straight into hers and said, "Jin, you're too innocent. It was not that she was different, but she made you believe that she was different. Just think, if a normal woman dated a rising star like you, wouldn't she want to immediately marry him, but even after your first film's success, she didn't marry you. Isn't that right?"
"No, she said that she didn't want to affect my future by marrying me during the start of my career, and only after my convincing she had agreed to marry me after the LIFA awards," Jin defended Diana.
"Or that's what she made you believe and was planning to escape with her lover before LIFA happened? Isn't that what happened when you think about it now?" Fana's carefully crafted words finally managed to shatter Diana's pristine image in Jin's mind.
"So I was lied to…" Jin muttered to himself after a few seconds of silence.
All the beautiful memories he shared with Diana turned into a lie in his mind.
"Yes, you were, but don't worry, Jin. Girls like Diana are like a dime a dozen in this world, but look at the positive side. You're no longer shackled by her memories, and we two can finally begin our love life in earnest, can't we?" Fana's tone changed to that of excitement, which affected Jin's mood as well.
"Yes, you're right...However, I can't help but feel sour about it," Jin expressed his current state.
"That's normal. You loved her once, but it's not right to deny reality, so answer my question: Who do you love now? Me or Diana?" Fana asked.
"Of course, it's you," Jin answered.
A bright smile formed on Fana's face as she replied, "That's right. So let's not let that woman's memories affect our present, alright? Instead, shouldn't we celebrate today's occasion now that you've finally overcome your past relationship?"
Fana's words successfully shifted Jin's perception as he asked her, "Celebrate? How?"
"This is how," Fana replied in a sultry manner and pulled Jin's head towards her and passionately kissed him.
The red bracelet on Fan's wrist faintly sparkled and Jin soon lost himself to Fana's tempting actions.
