Chapter 11: The Exam's End
U.A. High Exam Monitoring Room.
In the dim room, numerous screens displayed the situation in each of the different exam sites. Most of the tests were already nearing their conclusion, with only a single giant robot left rampaging through each site, hunting down any students who had not yet reached the safe zone.
"This year's students are all excellent. They have an outstanding grasp of timing and weighing pros and cons. You can just imagine how brightly they'll shine as future heroes."
One of the proctors turned his head and asked the tall man standing beside him, "Wouldn't you agree, All Might?"
"Ah, indeed."
Dressed in a costume straight out of a classic American comic book, his body rippling with explosive muscles, and most notably, wearing his iconic smile—the man who seemed like he belonged to a different art style just by standing there was none other than the legendary No. 1 Hero, All Might.
However, as he stood there with his hands on his hips, his brow was furrowed for some reason. He stared gravely at the monitors showing the few remaining active test sites, as if worried about something.
On one screen, the green-haired boy was trembling on the ground, staring in terror at the giant robot before him.
Young Midoriya... You must pass this test.
Just then, a voluptuous, sexy woman in a tight-fitting suit who was monitoring another site spoke to the others, a hint of a headache in her voice. "Everyone, the robot in Area D seems to be out of control. We've completely lost the remote connection."
This sudden major incident instantly captured the attention of all the teachers. A teacher dressed like a western cowboy stood up from his seat without a word, checked the gun on his hip, and prepared to open the door.
"Wait, Snipe." A non-human teacher ran over and checked the equipment, then said with a wry smile, "It's not a malfunction. Control has simply been transferred to a higher authority."
"You mean..."
He nodded and sighed, looking up at the ceiling. "The principal is having one of his fits again..."
Yoshikage Kira quietly watched as the robot wreaked havoc on the examinees, showing no desire to step in and help.
It wasn't until the robot suddenly changed its clumsy attack patterns, using its arms to create AOE damage, that Yoshikage noticed a subtle difference—it was as if the robot had suddenly come to life. While it was still attacking the students, it seemed to be deliberately avoiding those who were helping the injured, and it made sure to position the attacked students in conspicuous locations.
In other words, the U.A. higher-ups are watching this site right now...
"ONE MINUTE REMAINING!"
Present Mic's booming voice, loud enough to be heard across all the exam sites, announced that the test was about to end. The entire site erupted into a frenzy. Some students turned and tried to flee to safety.
The robot's arm suddenly began to rotate like a drill, easily piercing through a nearby building. Large chunks of brick and stone rained down, blocking the fleeing students' path.
"No way! The path is blocked!" they cried out, stopping in their tracks and turning to face the robot as it fixed its gaze on them.
Are we going to be attacked? Some of them even closed their eyes in despair.
I don't know who's controlling this thing, but it's time for this game to end.
Yoshikage started running between the buildings, moving into the robot's blind spot. He suddenly shot up, threw the first crow in his hand, and aimed it at the joint connecting the robot's head to its body.
The crow became a silent, stone-like projectile, flying straight toward the connection point. A split second before impact, it exploded.
As if a remote bomb had been planted inside it, it detonated with precision, blasting a small hole in the back of the robot's neck and exposing a tangle of countless wires within.
Immediately after, the second crow flew from Yoshikage's hand. But this one seemed to have a will of its own, carving a wide arc before diving into the hole. It flew to the densest part of the wiring, let out a final, dying caw, and then followed the fate of its brother. The light and heat emanating from within its body instantly expanded, and it exploded with a boom.
Although it was a small explosion, for a machine, it was a fatal blow. The red light in the eyes of the still-moving robot instantly dimmed, and it froze in place, its arms stuck in a downward-grabbing motion.
"Did it work?"
Yoshikage let out a sigh of relief. His body could no longer maintain its posture, and he collapsed limply to the ground.
"I ended up using it after all..." Yoshikage tilted his head, looking at the deactivated robot. He had just used his true Quirk—Killer Queen.
In the manga he had seen in his original world, Yoshikage Kira had to summon his Stand to use his ability. But in this world, Stands didn't seem to exist. He only needed to touch an object with his fingertip to turn it into a bomb.
What he had just done wasn't actually that complex. First, he had channeled the power of Hamon into the first crow, paralyzing its nervous system and turning it into a "dead object." He then touched it with his fingertip, making it a living bomb. After it exploded, he placed another bomb on the second crow and used Hamon to control its nerves, guiding it into the hole to detonate at its target.
Some might find it cruel to turn an animal into a living bomb, but Yoshikage felt no psychological burden from sacrificing the crows. His mind, perhaps by inheriting Yoshikage Kira's ability, had also inherited some of his personality. While he was repulsed by the idea of killing people and didn't want to become a murderer like him, killing a few animals didn't bother him. On the contrary, he would sometimes go to the market to buy live animals to kill and cook himself, simply to suppress the homicidal urges within him.
There is no need to show sympathy for things one cannot communicate with. That's what he thought.
"EXAM OVER!"
Soon, all the remaining robots in the exam sites powered down. Firefighters suddenly rushed out from some of the buildings, followed by medics carrying stretchers.
The examinees who had been helping the trapped students now worked alongside the professionals, continuously pulling people from the rubble and placing them on stretchers.
Because of their Quirks, the people of this world had much stronger constitutions than the ordinary humans of Yoshikage's former world. Although the students had been buried, most had only suffered superficial injuries. The few with serious wounds were sent to the Pro Hero known as "Recovery Girl" and would likely recover quickly.
Suddenly, a head popped out from a pile of rubble. "Damn it! To think a stupid robot would get the best of the great Tetsutetsu!" he shouted.
His entire body was covered in steel-like skin, and he was completely unharmed. He had just been pinned down by the falling debris and was only now able to move.
Despite his boastful shouts, his body was still wedged in the rubble. He could only wait patiently for the rescue workers to clear away the dirt and rock around him. Even so, the fierce expression on his exposed face never wavered, as if he were threatening them not to speak of this embarrassing incident.
And just like that, the curtain fell on the U.A. High Hero Course entrance exam.
