My Hero Academia: The Dragon's Quirk

Chapter 108: Chapter 108 : A Light Extinguished and a Hope Cracked

We ran through the twisted and ruined underground corridors, each step feeling like a race against time. Momo's voice on our communicator became our only guide, her usually calm tone now tense and urgent. "The path ahead has collapsed! Take the service route to your right! Quickly!" Behind us, I could feel the echoes of the monsters' roars we had just unleashed, a constant reminder of the danger we left behind and the greater threat that lay ahead.

"How much further, Yaoyorozu?!" Ryukyu shouted, her half-dragon form forcing her to stoop slightly in the narrow corridor, all while continuing to support the still-weak Nejire.

"Very close!" Momo replied. "I can feel the vibrations of a massive battle! It's just behind this wall! But... the vibrations are weakening. Something bad is happening."

Her warning made us all quicken our pace, a cold fear creeping over us. I knew what 'something bad' meant. I knew about Sir Nighteye's premonition. I knew about Mirio Togata's fate. My knowledge felt like a poison in my mind, a burden that made every step heavier.

On the other side of that wall, in a vast and shattered underground chamber, hell was unfolding.

Mirio Togata, Lemillion, the student closest to the title of number one hero, was now fighting like a cornered mortal. A few minutes ago, he was an untouchable phantom, dancing through every attack, his Permeation Quirk making him an impossible opponent. He had managed to defeat two members of the Eight Bullets of Death on his own, all while continuously protecting Eri. But then, everything changed. In a split-second moment when he rematerialized his arm to grab Eri, a bullet hit his shoulder.

He didn't feel pain at first. Just a strange, cold sensation. Then, he tried to phase through the floor to dodge. Nothing happened. He tried again. Still nothing. A panic he had never felt in his life began to rise as he realized the horrifying truth: his Quirk... was gone.

"Looks like your luck has run out, 'hero'," Overhaul said in a cold tone, standing atop the rubble.

Despite being powerless, despite the pain from his wounds beginning to set in, Mirio did not back down. He placed himself in front of the trembling, terrified Eri, his wide, confident smile never fading, though it now looked forced. "It doesn't matter," he said. "Even without a Quirk... I'm still Lemillion! And I will continue to protect her!"

He charged forward, relying on his incredible physical strength and fighting skills. He was still strong, still fast. But he was no longer a ghost. Every blow he took now felt real. Every attack he dodged left a scratch. He fought with the courage of a lion, but he was just a man against a monster.

It was then that Midoriya, Sir Nighteye, and Aizawa-sensei arrived. They saw a battered Mirio, still fighting desperately. Midoriya, without a second thought, immediately shot forward. "TOGATA-SENPAI!"

The fight changed. Midoriya, with One For All: Full Cowling 8%, became a new threat for Overhaul to face. Aizawa, from a safe distance, used his Erasure Quirk, trying to deactivate Overhaul's terrifying power. Sir Nighteye, the strategist, tried to analyze Overhaul's movement patterns, looking for an opening.

But Overhaul was a criminal genius. He knew their weaknesses. He touched the floor, and giant stone pillars erupted, separating Aizawa from his line of sight and forcing Midoriya to constantly jump and dodge. "That Erasure Quirk of yours is a nuisance," Overhaul said to Aizawa. "I'll get rid of you first."

He deconstructed the floor beneath Aizawa, creating a deep pit. As Aizawa leaped to avoid it, one of Overhaul's subordinates, Chronostasis, attacked him, managing to land a blow that injured Aizawa and forced him to blink. In that split second, Aizawa's Quirk deactivated. Overhaul did not waste the opportunity. A giant concrete spike shot from the wall and pierced Sir Nighteye, who had jumped to protect Aizawa.

"SIR!" Midoriya screamed in horror.

Seeing his mentor gravely injured, seeing his senior lose his power, seeing the terrified, crying Eri, something inside Midoriya reached a boiling point. He knew 8% wouldn't be enough. He had to go beyond his limits.

In the corridor, we finally arrived in front of a thick concrete wall. "This is it!" Momo said through the communicator. "They're behind it!"

"I'll open it!" Ryukyu roared.

She transformed into her full dragon form and slammed herself against the wall. The wall cracked, then shattered into pieces, revealing the scene behind it.

The sight we saw was a scene from a hero's nightmare. Sir Nighteye lay on the ground, covered in blood. Mirio, battered and powerless, was desperately protecting Eri. And Midoriya... he stood alone before Kai Chisaki, who had now fused with one of his subordinates, transforming into a monstrous giant with four arms and a face contorted in rage.

"Midoriya-kun!" Uraraka screamed in horror.

Our arrival brought a glimmer of hope. Overhaul turned, his cold eyes looking at us, the new intruders. "More insects have come to be crushed," he growled.

Ryukyu, without hesitation, immediately charged the Overhaul monster. The battle of giants resumed, a dragon against a Yakuza monster, shaking the entire underground chamber.

"We have to help!" Nejire said, her strength beginning to return.

I surveyed the battlefield, my mind racing. Overhaul was too strong. Ryukyu could only hold him off for a while. And then, I saw it. I saw Eri. I saw the horn on her forehead begin to glow. I felt a strange, chaotic, and unstable energy begin to radiate from her. It was her Rewind Quirk, activating due to the overwhelming emotional distress.

I saw that energy envelop Midoriya. His injuries began to heal instantly, then reappear, then heal again. I, with my knowledge, immediately understood what was about to happen. Midoriya realized the same thing. He couldn't fight Overhaul and protect Eri at the same time. The only way was to... use Eri's power.

"Eri-chan!" Midoriya yelled. "I know you're scared! But can you lend me your power?!"

He leaped and grabbed Eri, carrying her on his back. Instantly, an infinite energy exploded from his body. He was no longer enveloped in the green flashes of 8%. He was now consumed by a pillar of pure green and golden energy. His muscles bulged, his hair floated. He had activated One For All: 100%.

He became a momentary god, a force of nature. But I also saw the danger. His eyes looked vacant, the power too great for his body to control. He wouldn't just destroy Overhaul; he could destroy this entire place, including himself and all of us.

Ryukyu and the others stared in awe and horror. They saw incredible power, but I saw a time bomb.

I made a split-second decision. Our mission had changed. "Everyone!" I yelled through the communicator, my voice cutting through their awe. "Forget Chisaki! Focus on Midoriya!"

They all looked at me, confused.

"That power... it's unstable! He can't control it!" I explained quickly. "Our job now isn't to defeat the villain! Our job is to make sure our hero doesn't destroy himself and everyone around him in the process!"

I looked at my group, at Akame who had just arrived silently behind us, at Todoroki and the others who had just joined. This was the strangest alliance that had ever existed.

"Brace yourselves," I said, as Midoriya let out a world-shaking roar and charged toward Overhaul. "We're about to become the safety net for a hurricane."
