Chapter 13
The day after finishing the AGP exploration.
“……”
Somehow, I woke up earlier than usual and checked the time, then unconsciously opened the contact app.
【Seo-ha noona】
Scrolling down, a name that seemed somewhat unfamiliar caught my eye.
The only person in my contacts who had the title “noona” was my real older sister, but suddenly, like a flower blooming in a barren land, a woman’s name appeared.
That’s right. The person in question was none other than my fan from yesterday’s AGP, Seo-ha noona.
I still remember her self-deprecating remark about how asking for my contact without revealing her name was cowardly, and the way she personally saved her name with her own hands.
I thought, without much care, that she was as pretty as her name.
【Seo-ha noona – Did you get home okay?】
【Me – I did, how about you?】
【Seo-ha noona – Me too, haha!】
【Seo-ha noona – Thanks to you, today was really fun!】
【Me – It was fun for me too!】
To make sure this wasn’t a dream, I checked our last conversation from when I got home. There was Seo-ha noona’s warm and tender message that radiated kindness.
This really isn’t a dream. I’m still bewildered. I can’t believe I exchanged contacts with such a beautiful woman.
Of course, she asked for my contact out of interest as a fan, but being a man, it’s impossible not to feel a strange sense of excitement. Especially when the other person is a beauty that one encounters only once in a lifetime.
Slap!
“…Get a grip and clean up.”
Before I could think of anything ridiculous, I slapped my cheeks to wake myself up.
You’re not someone to even fantasize about, Kang Woo-joo. Wake up and do what you need to do.
I’ve got a long list of things to do, starting with the New Year’s cleaning. Even if the New Year passed a long time ago.
“Up we go!”
I let out an “ahem” like an old man and got out of bed, heading straight to the living room.
As I pulled aside the curtains I had hung the night before, I squinted at the sunlight streaming in through the window.
Ugh, I guess I’m still a night owl.
“Hmm….”
As I searched the living room, trying to decide where to start cleaning, I decided to first clear away the giant cat tower by the window.
Usually, I couldn’t be bothered, but since it was a big cleaning day, I figured I should move bigger items around and get rid of the dust piled underneath.
With Seo-ha noona’s chat screen open and unconsciously glancing at it, I picked up the cat tower in a rush.
“Woo-yu, just wait a bit. I’ll put it back later.”
“Nyaaa….”
Just as Woo-yu, the overlord of our house, cried out since she was about to jump on the cat tower, I had no choice.
It’s a forced eviction, my dear customer.
Thump.
As the cat tower swayed ominously, Woo-yu leaped onto the little sofa in the living room. I guess I’ll have to bribe her with treats later to calm her down.
Brrrrr.
After clearing out a few big pieces of furniture, I finally pulled the vacuum cleaner from the living room to my room and began the serious cleaning task.
I usually cleaned here and there anyway, but with the dust that builds up in hidden places under the furniture, today was a dust-filled fiesta. I should’ve worn a mask.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
“…Huh?”
Just as I pondered, I suddenly heard the sound of someone tapping the door lock.
What’s going on? There shouldn’t be anyone…
The only person I could think of was my best buddy, but he was dragged to our family home recently and wouldn’t be in Seoul right now. Then who could it be?
No way it’s a burglar, right? As I got lost in confusion, the front door swung open with a beep, proving the password had been entered correctly.
On the other side stood none other than,
“Woo-joo! Noona is here!”
“……”
My older sister, Kang Yeon-joo.
*
Kang Yeon-joo, 26 years old.
She’s my real older sister, a model who has utilized her tremendous beauty and tall stature since childhood. Although I don’t know much about that field, I’ve heard she often appears in fashion magazines and shows – quite the celebrity.
Thanks to that, our proud parents love to brag about her whenever they go out.
Since there’s a bit of an age gap between us, when I was in high school, my older sister, who had become an adult first, often gave me allowances or helped me in various ways.
So, I’m quite grateful to her…but at the same time, it feels a bit awkward.
That’s because,
“My little brother, let’s have a hug since it’s been a while!”
As embarrassing as it is to say, my sister has what you’d call a strong sense of closeness towards me, like the trope you see in subculture.
Not that it’s anything inappropriate; she simply dotes on me a bit too much, and it feels quite burdensome when we meet.
Seriously, we’re not kids anymore – why hug right away?
“Have you been doing well? I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit often because I’ve been busy.”
With an apologetic expression, my sister smiled at me.
I shook my head.
It’s unreasonable to expect such things from someone who spends more time abroad than in Korea.
That’s why I’m just sending back all the money she gives me. She says it’s okay to save it for later, but how could I accept it?
“Why did you come to visit? You’re busy with work, so no need to worry about me. I’m doing just fine on my own.”
“Still, you quit university less than half a year in and suddenly decided to live alone, so of course, I’m worried.”
That’s fair enough.
If I were in her shoes, I’d probably be concerned too, seeing my youthful self living alone. Better to check in now and then than have me kick the bucket somewhere.
“Well, at least it makes me happy to see you doing a big cleaning for the New Year. I feel a bit relieved.”
“Glad to hear that. By the way, what brought you to Korea? Work?”
The last time I heard about her, she was in Italy, so I questioned her with a confused look. My sister replied confidently with a peace sign and a bright smile.
“I wrapped it up quickly this time. I wanted to come back for the New Year, but that was a bit tough.”
“Really?”
Come to think of it, my sister usually tries to be in Korea for the New Year.
I hadn’t noticed before, but maybe she has a little rule of her own to spend the New Year back in her homeland because of nostalgia.
Thinking about it made me feel a little melancholic. Living abroad isn’t easy either.
“By the way, I’ve been hearing your broadcasts have been going well? Mom seems really happy.”
“Well, it’s going okay, nothing special.”
“Still, I heard you got an advertisement deal? That’s impressive!”
“Did Mom mention that too?”
I couldn’t help but smile at how she was interested in such trivial things.
Meanwhile, she looked relieved, as if she were happy for me. I can tell she cares about me more than is necessary.
“Since you’re back for a bit, want me to help with the cleaning? What should I do?”
“What do you mean a guest should help? Just play with Woo-yu over there.”
“Oh, right! I totally forgot about Woo-yu!”
As if realizing Woo-yu’s presence for the first time, my sister went over to the fluffy little white furball and stretched out her hand with kindness.
“Nyaa.”
Woo-yu, who had been looking at her for a while, obediently approached and settled into her lap, curling up into a ball.
What a response! It’s almost as if she doesn’t care that guests are visiting.
“Have you had lunch? After we finish cleaning, how about we go out to eat together?”
“Sure! What do you feel like eating?”
Since she was back from abroad, I figured I should at least treat her to a meal, and when I asked for her request, she waved her finger as if asking why I was even asking.
“Of course we should eat what my little brother wants! What do you want? Beef?”
“That sounds good too.”
Knowing my sister has a penchant for meat, I nodded. Though she asked, she was likely already craving it herself.
But judging by her craving, it seems like her diet period has passed. Guess I should treat her to some good food.
First, though, we need to finish cleaning.
“I’ll be quick. If you’re bored, just play on the computer or something.”
“I’m fine. These days, I haven’t been gaming much anyway.”
It looked like being a model had kept her so busy that she naturally drifted away from gaming. Back when we were kids, I used to learn gaming from her. It feels nostalgic.
“Woo-yu, let’s play with your sister! How cute!”
“Nyaa.”
As I reminisced about those memories, my sister dived onto the sofa and began playing with Woo-yu just as I asked.
Guess I’ll have to finish the cleaning in the meantime.
“Eek!? W-Woo-joo!”
“……?”
Just as I turned the vacuum cleaner back on and was about to move, my sister erupted in a scream from behind.
Knowing she’s quite sensitive to bugs, I wondered if a cockroach had appeared and turned to see her with the most excited expression and sparkling eyes, holding my phone, still opened to the chat with Seo-ha noona.
“Who is this Seo-ha noona? Did my little brother finally get a girlfriend!?”
“…Ah.”
Oh no, I really messed up.
