Ch. 7
Chapter 7: Teacher, Please Don’t Smile Like That, You’re Scaring Me
Central State First High School, Principal’s Office.
A teacher reported to Zhong Honglian: “Just now, the Transcendent fluctuation came from Jiang He. He used Word-Spirit to suppress everyone in the entire teaching building. Even the D-rank teachers were affected and subconsciously stopped their actions.”
“In addition, twenty-seven students who directly faced Jiang He, including two E-rank students, were all controlled by Word-Spirit and forced into self-harm… Even now, they are still repenting from the bottom of their hearts, unable to break free from the influence of the Word-Spirit.”
The teacher finished and exclaimed in disbelief: “He only awakened last night?”
“This is what an S-rank talent means…”
Zhong Honglian narrowed her eyes slightly, lost in thought.
After a moment, she stopped thinking and spoke: “Once those students finish their treatment, all of them are to be recorded with demerits and publicly criticized.”
“Yes.” The teacher nodded in agreement.
Clearly it was Jiang He who violated school rules, using his talent without permission to harm his classmates, yet it was the victims who were punished instead… On the surface this seemed unreasonable, but in reality it was perfectly logical.
Because he was an S-rank talent bearer.
In a world where great power belonged to individuals, this was the truth.
Zhong Honglian continued: “Additionally, the school needs to improve its educational policy for the ordinary classes—”
“Many students are only yet to awaken. It does not mean they will never awaken to rare talents… Jiang He handled himself with restraint this time. If it had been a bad-tempered or highly dangerous talent awakening instead, a fatal incident would have been perfectly normal.”
“We must strengthen ideological education and resolutely prevent such incidents from happening again.”
“Yes!” The teacher’s expression turned solemn.
Many Transcendent students, and even many parents, could not understand why the Parliament valued 【School】 so highly.
Even an S-rank talent bearer had to undergo a complete mandatory education within school, learning seemingly useless courses in arts and literature, “wasting” eighteen years—or even longer.
The reason was simple—
An immature Transcendent individual, one who lacked ideological education, morality, and a bottom line, yet possessed terrifying power, was an extremely dangerous existence to society as a whole.
Thus, a complete education system was the true cornerstone of Transcendent society.
After the teacher left the office, Zhong Honglian lowered her head, looked at Jiang He’s file, and finally wrote down:
【Delayed Graduation】.
…
On the other side, along the school walkway.
Beneath the green shade, Jiang He followed behind Wei Sheng, walking toward the special class teaching building.
But what others could not see was that beside Jiang He walked a white-haired figure.
“White Crane, weren’t you a bit too much just now…? The school forbids students from abusing Transcendent abilities. What if I get punished with demerits?” Jiang He looked worried.
White Crane had his hands in his pockets, smiling all the while: “Just tell me, wasn’t it satisfying?”
“…Yes, it was.” Jiang He’s lips curled unconsciously.
After so many years of school, constantly mocked and ridiculed, it was impossible that he had never fantasized about something like this.
And just now, that long-standing fantasy had become reality, sending a tingling, electric thrill through his body…
It might have broken school rules, but it was so cathartic!
“As for school rules, they provoked first, you retaliated after. At most, it counts as emotional overreaction. The worst you’ll get is a verbal reprimand.” White Crane understood Jiang He’s psychology well—
To this obedient child, school rules were heaven’s law, and violating them was an unforgivable sin.
This kind of long-accumulated conditioning could not be changed in an instant, only broken down gradually.
“Look, didn’t Teacher Wei just now say nothing?”
Jiang He looked at Wei Sheng’s back.
Indeed, ever since leaving the classroom, Wei Sheng hadn’t criticized him once, just directly brought him over to report to the special class.
It really didn’t seem like a big deal.
Jiang He let out a sigh of relief.
But in a place Jiang He couldn’t see, Wei Sheng was leading the way while frantically racking his brains, trying to recall if he had ever offended this student before…
Contempt? Ridicule? Mockery? No, he was nearly middle-aged, not as childish as kids, and he had always been quite understanding toward non-Transcendent students. He had never scolded Jiang He for falling behind in classwork… Wait, did that count as neglect?
And those troublemakers who often ridiculed Jiang He—he had known about it, but hadn’t done much to stop them… That could also be seen as indulgence.
Children of this age were sensitive. Maybe Jiang He hated him too.
Cold sweat poured down Wei Sheng’s back—offending an ordinary child was no big deal, but offending a future S-rank talent, especially one who held grudges… that was terrifying!
It was over. He had to find a way to remedy this, to change the impression he left in Jiang He’s heart!
Jiang He had no idea what Wei Sheng was thinking.
After his mood relaxed, his mind grew more active, and a bit of curiosity arose.
“White Crane, why was the effect of your Word-Spirit so strong just now, able to influence so many people?”
“Aren’t you the Heroic Spirit I summoned?”
Even with the same Word-Spirit talent, when Jiang He casually kindled a fire or stirred a breeze, it already exhausted him.
But White Crane had subdued so many Transcendent students with just two sentences—
It must be known that several students in class who had awakened earlier had already risen to E-rank, yet in front of him, they had no power to resist!
The gap wasn’t small at all!
“I am indeed the Heroic Spirit you summoned. My Transcendent energy level is the same as yours, restricted at G-rank.”
Hearing this, Jiang He became even more confused.
If they were both G-rank, then why was White Crane so strong?
White Crane gave the answer—
“However, just like in ancient times, when Gan Luo became Prime Minister at twelve years old, even at G-rank there are differences of strength.”
“As a top Transcendent being from sixty years in the future, the Transcendent profession, specialties, and skills I possess all far exceed G-rank standards, which allows me to wield power far beyond my actual energy level.”
“For example, this is one of the skills I possess.”
White Crane flicked his finger.
Information transformed into words and appeared before Jiang He’s eyes.
【Subtle Words, Sacred Meaning lv10—Consumes extremely little power to release will-based Word-Spirit, with powerful amplification effect, capable of causing sacred persuasion.】
【Skill Source: S-rank Sacred Speaker.】
Jiang He stared at the words, dumbfounded.
“You’re a G-rank Heroic Spirit, yet you possess the skill of an S-rank profession??!”
“Yes.”
“And you still have more specialties and abilities that belong to S-rank Transcendent beings??”
“Mhm.”
“How is that even reasonable!!”
Clearly possessing only G-rank energy, yet holding the panel of an S-rank Transcendent being—how could his strength even be measured?
An S-rank Heroic Spirit heavily weakened? Or an extremely overpowered G-rank Heroic Spirit?
Either way, it felt like blatant cheating!
“Exactly, I was wondering the same.” White Crane nodded seriously, then fixed his gaze on Jiang He: “Tell me, does this seem reasonable?”
“……”
Jiang He fell silent.
Heroic Spirit White Crane originated from his own talent 【Ferryman of Time】.
So, it seemed that the one cheating wasn’t White Crane… but himself?
“It does make sense though. After all, if 【Ferryman of Time】 only summoned an empty shell, what kind of Heroic Spirit would that be?”
Jiang He changed the subject:
“In that case, how much strength do you actually have?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never encountered this situation before. We’ll only know after real combat… But in short, not weak.”
White Crane laughed it off as well, then changed the subject: “But precisely because of this factor, it became possible for you to transfer into the 【Rumor Bearer】 profession.”
“Why?” Jiang He asked curiously.
“High-level Transcendent beings have the ability to create their own exclusive Transcendent professions… Apart from foundational professions like Student or Teacher, most Transcendent professions in the world originated this way.”
“The 【Rumor Bearer】 profession is one I created in the future. Theoretically speaking, at this time it has yet to be born and does not exist as a 【Rule】 in this world.”
“In the absence of its existence, how could anyone transfer into it?”
White Crane pointed at himself.
“But now, it’s different.”
“I stand here, and I possess this profession.”
“This means the 【Future】 has interfered with the 【Present】, and the 【Possible】 has turned into 【Reality】.”
“Right here and now, this entire sequence of professions was born because of you.”
“Therefore, you have gained the possibility to transfer into this Transcendent profession!”
Jiang He understood.
It was just like the problem of ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg’.
He had simply carried a chicken back from the future, let it lay an egg, and from then on the world had both chickens and eggs.
He had become the origin of the paradox.
At this moment, he finally understood the true meaning of his talent.
He was the “source” of all possibilities, able to ferry the future into the present and turn the “possible” into “reality.”
This was 【Ferryman of Time】!
Following this logic further, Jiang He realized another problem.
“Teacher Zhong asked me what Transcendent profession I wanted to pursue, and I chose the A-rank 【Sunflame Wielder】.”
“Yes.” White Crane nodded.
“You also once faced this choice, and you too chose the A-rank 【Sunflame Wielder】.”
“That’s right.” White Crane smiled.
“So you also possess the 【Sunflame Wielder】 profession, but yours is from the future. Since Transcendent professions are created by Teacher Zhong, if she successfully breaks through to S-rank in the future, then her profession can also advance in rank…” Jiang He’s expression changed.
“You possess a profession beyond 【Sunflame Wielder】, an S-rank profession!”
White Crane sighed with feeling: “Finally realized it, have you? So slow of me.”
He smiled: “I can tell you, this profession is called 【Blazing Red Lotus】. Tsk, how chuunibyou of you, Teacher Zhong.”
“Blazing Red Lotus?!!”
At last, Jiang He realized the kind of potential his 【Ferryman of Time】 talent truly held—
Even before Zhong Honglian herself had broken through to S-rank, he already knew… and had even summoned forth himself from the future, one who possessed her profession’s S-rank advancement!
No wonder White Crane hadn’t stopped him from choosing an A-rank profession…
He had already turned this path into an S-rank pathway with his own hands!
“Impressive, right?” White Crane asked.
“Too impressive.” Jiang He replied.
“You’re the truly impressive one.”
White Crane sighed, then his tone turned serious.
“That’s why I say—
With such a shamelessly overpowered talent, you are destined in the future to become, if not surpass, even beyond S-rank.”
“Be confident. Stop being so weak.”
“Beyond S-rank…”
Jiang He’s eyes grew unfocused.
He felt like the frog at the bottom of a well, while White Crane, who had already leapt out, was describing to him the vast sky above.
Just as he was lost in imagination, Wei Sheng suddenly slowed his pace. Jiang He, not paying attention, bumped right into his back.
He felt like he had hit a steel plate. As he was about to fall backward, a pair of large hands caught him and pulled him up.
When he lifted his head, he was met with Teacher Wei’s incomparably gentle, friendly, and even a little overly forceful smile.
“Sorry, Jiang He. We’ve arrived at the special class.”
“…Teacher, please don’t smile like that, you’re scaring me.”
