Ch. 26
Chapter 26: The Universal Amplifier
In White Crane’s account, he had once been the guardian of Central State City, dedicated to maintaining order.
If that was the case, then why, within just a single year, did he suddenly lose control in a violent rampage, to the point of destroying the world?
Jiang He could not understand no matter how hard he thought about it.
White Crane had no intention of answering this question: “That is my experience.”
“If you think it’s wrong, or if you want to know more… then see it for yourself.”
“……”
The scene that had been used earlier to expose White Crane’s true identity was a fleeting fragment that appeared during Jiang He’s awakening.
With his current F-rank strength, it was clearly impossible to see more.
Since White Crane did not intend to reveal the truth, Jiang He could only bury the confusion deep in his heart.
At the very least, he now had a clear understanding of the future of 【Transcendent Rampage】, and he knew what he would have to face next—
Now it was May 20th. In the time that followed, until June 13th when the Arc Light Organization would appear again, this period would be considered Central State City’s 【Time of Chaos】.
Violence, slaughter, and crime would emerge one after another.
So…
He should focus on cultivation first.
After all, the chaos that Central State City was about to face was not something he could resolve with just his current strength.
Rather than racking his brains thinking of how to prevent it, it was better to cultivate honestly.
Once his strength improved, many problems would naturally be solved.
Just like in the future that White Crane had experienced—when he became an S-rank powerhouse, even though Central State City had already fallen into becoming a city of sin, order had still been restored all the same.
So, everything was the fault of not being strong enough!
As long as one was powerful enough, there would be no problem!
With this thought, Jiang He followed White Crane and began the evening lessons.
The first item of the lesson was naturally “replacing the Fire Seed.”
Jiang He released his own Fire Source, and with White Crane’s help, erased Zhong Honglian’s imprint, making it an independent “Free Fire Source.”
Not only that, because White Crane’s Fire Source quality was extremely high, after Jiang He’s Fire Seed was refined, the basic strength of his flames was greatly enhanced.
Even without any skill boosts, the power had already reached the limit of F-rank.
Compared to the flames of ordinary Transcendents at E-rank, his was not necessarily inferior.
“The strongest aspect of the Word-Spirit talent isn’t control, but its ‘universality.’”
“It can transform freely into the form required by the talent user, and combine with other abilities!”
As a veteran Word-Spirit talent user, White Crane shared his experience with Jiang He.
“For example, if you fight now using Word-Spirit alone, you can at most suppress F-rank Transcendents. Against higher-ranked enemies, it can only provide minor control, and it is difficult to inflict direct damage.”
“But, if you control flames in your attack at the same time, and then use Word-Spirit to enhance them—”
“At that moment, it is equivalent to having an S-rank 【Flame Talent】, granting your flames the complete amplification of an S-rank talent!”
“Together with your enhanced Fire Source, even a D-rank Transcendent cannot ignore your attacks!”
Jiang He nodded repeatedly.
So it seemed that the Word-Spirit talent was more like a universal 【Amplifier】, able to amplify the abilities of other professions, and even other talents!
If that was the case…
“If I summon a new Heroic Spirit and obtain a new talent—”
“Can I stack the Word-Spirit talent onto it, and gain a double-strength boost?”
“For example, if I originally had an S-rank flame talent, and then also received S-rank Word-Spirit enhancement, what level of strength would that be?”
White Crane rolled his eyes: “How would I know? I don’t have cheats.”
So you’re implying I have cheats, huh?
Jiang He muttered inwardly, but he came to a realization.
If the Word-Spirit talent could stack with other talents…
Then what about the 【Ferryman of Time】 talent?
For instance, if he first used “Talent Enhancement” on himself, and then revealed a new future—wouldn’t the odds of pulling an SSR increase by several times?
Just thinking of that situation made Jiang He feel somewhat excited.
Unfortunately, the 【Ferryman of Time】 talent was still on cooldown. He would have to wait until next Friday for his second summoning, so there was no way to test it immediately.
Moreover, by that time, the Word-Spirit talent would most likely disappear together with White Crane.
Thinking of this, Jiang He said to White Crane.
“Before you return, remember to leave me a Word-Spirit of ‘Talent Enhancement.’”
White Crane guessed his thought, the corner of his lips lifting: “You really are greedy… No wonder you awakened such a greedy talent.”
“No need to wait until I return. I’ll give it to you now.”
White Crane raised his finger, waving it through the air, sketching out scarlet traces that turned into a Spell Word, floating in his palm.
“This is the Spell Word ‘Talent Enhancement.’”
“…What?”
Seeing this scene, Jiang He was stunned: “Isn’t Spiritual Blood needed to draw a Spell Word? Where did you…”
Halfway through speaking, his face darkened.
The Spiritual Blood required to draw Spell Words was not limited to “Exotic Beasts.” It could also be “Transcendents.”
In the recently attacked school, the ground had been littered with Transcendent blood!
“You figured it out?” White Crane half-smiled: “Those assailants I killed were all C-rank Transcendents. Their Spiritual Blood was very suitable for drawing Spell Words.”
“As the victor, I collected these spoils of war.”
“……”
The tension that Jiang He had just let go of returned all over again.
He realized once more that the White Crane before him was no longer a so-called guardian of order, but a true world-destroying evil spirit!
Killing people for their blood—he spoke of it as if it were nothing at all!
White Crane’s lips curved upward: “The school’s Meditation Room has been destroyed. If you want to use Word-Spirit again, it will consume a lot of mental energy.”
“To quickly break through to E-rank, you can only use ‘Spell Words’—they consume Spiritual Blood in exchange for low expenditure and high power, compensating for the lack of mental energy.”
“And enemies are the best source of Spiritual Blood.”
“Want to give it a try?”
“……”
The image of the school flashed through Jiang He’s mind.
Rampant, slaughtering assailants, the ruins filled with grief, corpses with eyes wide open in death.
He looked at the Spell Word mark floating in White Crane’s hand, pursed his lips, and shook his head.
“No.”
“Even if I must use human blood to draw Spell Words, I would only use my own blood.”
Spell Words were imprinted at the root of the tongue.
Jiang He simply could not accept storing other people’s blood in his own tongue.
Moreover, he could not even be sure whether the Spell Word in White Crane’s hand truly only contained the blood of assailants…
“Naive.”
White Crane waved his hand, dispersing the Spell Word.
His expression was scornful, yet his eyes flickered with a trace of amusement.
“Since you refuse this path, you can only rely on upgrading as a Fire Controller.”
“If someone helps a Fire Controller condense Fire Seeds, their upgrading speed isn’t considered slow.”
“Come, first use your specialty 【Universal Lingual Intuition】 to learn from me the language of fire.”
……
Jiang He had already used Universal Lingual Intuition before, and by “listening” to the language of the wind, he had located the Phantom assailant.
With that experience, he thought he could quickly learn the “Language of Fire.”
But when he truly came into contact with the Language of Fire, he found that this so-called “language” was far more abstract and complex than he had imagined.
All the way until midnight, he still felt completely at a loss about the Language of Fire, with almost no progress made.
White Crane did not expect him to master it immediately either. When he felt it was about time, he let him rest first.
Before going to sleep, Jiang He thought of White Crane’s earlier actions.
He said to White Crane: “After I fall asleep, you are not allowed to leave the room, not allowed to touch my phone, not allowed to act on your own.”
“This is an ‘order.’”
Even though White Crane was a super S-rank Heroic Spirit, he could not disobey his Master’s order.
The corners of his mouth curved into a smile.
“As you command.”
