Chapter 507: S3 British Grand Prix. 5
Buoso Di Renzo ended up failing woefully in his attempt to crash Matteo Bianchi and his Red Bull.
There had been some undeniable uneasiness between Jackson Racing and Bueseno Velocità since Austria, where that heated pitlane altercation involving Di Renzo and Matteo had vaporized sportsmanlike principles for the rest of the season. Di Renzo's pride was scarred, and Matteo went on to laugh and flash his teeth in the post-race interviews that followed.
Both teams had nonverbally decided to take that rhubarb as a little, ignorable dispute, but not Buoso Di Renzo. He kept everything at the back of his mind—a true warrior. Stadhaven became his battleground for revenge, but unfortunately for him, his execution was clumsy and desperate.
During the heated laps of the first pitstop phase, both drivers thundered into the braking zone of Turn 6. Di Renzo had already begun to make unclean moves, forcing Matteo off his line and across the kerb.
"!!!"
Matteo Bianchi was an unamenable young man. He refused to be bullied, but Di Renzo was strong. Without hesitation, he quickly complained into the radio about the ridiculous driving. By then, Di Renzo had made major progress as he smitted his front wing.
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!"
For a split second, it looked like both would spin into the barriers, but Matteo's lightning reactions as an F1 driver saved him. He was unable to unclip his Red Bull by yanking it away. As a result, the wing detached halfway immediately and began to scrape the asphalt.
But at least, he was safe. He survived, yet at the cost of three cars blasting past in pursuit of his assailant, before he could limp back into rhythm.
"Unbelievable bastard!"
Di Renzo's intent to crash the Velocità rookie, Matteo Bianchi, was as clear as Stadhaven's skies. Even Jackson Racing couldn't deny it when they were instantly accused and reprimanded. The stewards wasted no time handing Di Renzo a 10-second penalty, a decision that crushed the Stallions' slim hopes of clawing back championship points.
"Blatant act of aggression!" Mr. Sutherland raged from the Jackson Racing VIP suite, slamming his fist against a polished table. The calm man had ultimately lost his cool.
"We're fighting for credibility here, and he's out there throwing it away like this!"
The others sat in aggravated silence, starting from Mr. Palmer through to their assistants.
"The stewards didn't even hesitate on that penalty, Sutherland," Palmer muttered.
Fortunately for both Di Renzo and Matteo, stops were just right then. And so, Matteo got his wings replaced, and Di Renzo served his penalty bitterly with an unhappy Jackson Racing garage. At the end of it, he found himself in the very same P20 he launched from.
"If this is how we're going to keep bleeding points, I don't see a bright future either. We'll have to rethink our lineup and car strategy before the next race. Or we'll get buried by power."
"...AND THAT'S A SHOCKER FOR JACKSON RACING! BUOSO DI RENZO GETS HANDED A 10-SECOND PENALTY FOR THAT MOVE ON MATTEO BIANCHI..!"
"...The British crowd is not happy about this one! This is their home team, and they're seeing Jackson Racing implode under pressure. That move from Di Renzo was desperate and messy, costing not only himself but damaging the team's already fragile race hopes! This penalty is a painful blow...!"
----
The British Grand Prix had evolved into a relentless test of nerve and strategy as it entered its latter stages. By now, the storylines were many, but none bigger than the total chaos that had unfolded since lights out.
Denko Rutherford's DNF remained one of the defining moments of the day, his fiery duel with Elias Nyström ending in a disastrous slide into the barriers. That single event shifted the dynamics for Haddock Racing, leaving the team scrambling with only one car left in contention.
Victor's steady climb from the depths of P16 into a respectable position, P12, had given Trampos Racing a wind of glory and assurance that he was improving.
The crowd had seen everything, and they had to admit that this Grand Prix belonged to the bold—and Luca Rennick was the boldest of them all. Trampos' early first-stop strategy for him had obfuscated rival teams' clarity on Trampos, even analysts, and what came next left commentators scrambling for explanations.
As the second pitstop phase loomed, Luca was among the first to dive into the pits again. He was the first in leading the pack after losing and regaining his position to Jimmy Damgaard, who countered on his momentum loss.
His early pitstop again was a muddle for many because Luca was known for stretching tire life, sometimes even aiming for a single stop over an entire race. Was Trampos attempting a double-undercut, or were they simply reacting to data the others didn't have?
Squadra Corse and Haddock Racing developed some insecurity seeing the German team, Trampos Racing, implement team plans efficiently and smoothly. They suddenly began to recalculate their own strategies, wary of giving Luca any margin for advantage.
But Luca didn't need their mistakes or margins because he had already sketched the path to victory in his mind. This path didn't rely on anyone slipping up for him to capitalize. It was all just him and his voguish Scuderia Z24.
[SYNC BAR: [][][][] 50%]
After overtaking Damgaard with the help of DRS Boost, Luca acquired a point to Sync Bar. He also got favored with another notification of Yaw Flex, taking the unique Skill to (20) and DRS Boost to (12).
Luca became extra hungry for Sync Bar points. But after calculating the amount of Catalysts and Wrenches he had, Luca realized that it was enough to surmount to Sync Buff in this race!
[Current Inventory:
—Catalysts: 4
—Wrenches: 2
—Tokens: 1.6]
Since the Sync Bar was at 50%, it required another 50%. That meant four more points. Looking at the Tools, Luca only saw 3 points possible: (2) Wrenches for 2 Skill Points, and (3) Catalysts to be converted to (1) Wrench for 1 Skill Point.
In essence, 1 point was left, and Luca knew he had to solve it first before he began investing to prevent waste.
Unfortunately, the system did not assist in reviewing his status and giving suggestions. He had to mentally remember everything himself, and thankfully, he came to a perfect solution.
[Tire Wear Management: 29]
Taking this attribute to (30) with (1) Catalyst out of the (4) would unlock a new Skill and solve the problem since unlocking a Skill mid-race grants Sync Bar points.
All Luca had to do was keep his fingers crossed and hope that some goddamn Self Skill wouldn't be replicated!

[Congratulations! All Car Attributes have reached (30)!]
