Chapter 17
Chapter 17: The Ex-Girlfriend and Childhood Friend Battle with Drinks
* * *
First, Yerin downed a shot.
“If you’re jealous, just admit it already. Always getting in the way—do you know how much I hate that?”
Sip.
Then, Chae-yeon took her turn.
“Ha! Jealous? What would I be jealous of?”
Sip.
They had only just finished five shots each, but both of their faces were already red as radishes.
As the two “goddesses” of the Tourism Management Department, known lightweights, went head-to-head, their classmates’ eyes were fixed on them. Si-hyun, meanwhile, smacked his forehead, waiting for the inevitable aftermath.
Yerin grabbed the soju bottle again and spoke boldly.
“Take another shot. Or are you scared? If so, just back out.”
“Who’s scared? Pour it in already.”
Their classmates started to chuckle at the escalating competitiveness between the two, given how little they’d actually drunk so far.
After downing her shot, Yerin began to cough, her throat stinging. She turned to Chae-yeon, who was struggling just as much, and slurred,
“I’ve known Si-hyun for 15 years… We’ve even slept together, went to saunas, and even bathed—!”
“Oh my god, can you shut up?! Are you trying to ruin me here?”
Si-hyun hurriedly clamped his hand over Yerin’s mouth. Their classmates gasped, reacting to the shock of what she’d just shared.
Yerin struggled against Si-hyun’s hold, while Chae-yeon looked at her with a mocking smirk.
“If you’ve been around for fifteen years, what have you even done? I was the first to date Si-hyun, and I was his first kiss too.”
“Mmph! Mmmph!!”
Yerin’s response to Chae-yeon’s provocation was practically explosive.
If her mouth were free, there would’ve likely been some choice words exchanged.
Holding Yerin’s lips shut, Si-hyun spoke up.
“So-hee, can you take Chae-yeon back to her room? Something’s going to happen if this keeps up.”
“Sorry, Si-hyun… My stomach hurts, I need to go to the restroom.”
So-hee, who had been nibbling on her pork belly until just moments ago, clutched her stomach and left.
‘Chae-yeon, now’s your chance.’
So-hee found the current situation very favorable, hoping that the drunken Chae-yeon might finally confess her true feelings for Si-hyun.
“What? Suddenly, you have to use the restroom…”
“Huff…!”
In Si-hyun’s moment of distraction, Yerin broke free from his hold. Her flushed face mirrored her bloodshot eyes. Staring at Chae-yeon with deadly intent, she pointed an accusing finger at her.
“It’s because you used your filthy body to seduce Si-hyun!”
“You’re one to talk. Who’s really seducing him here, you big chunk of fat!”
“Chunk of… fat?”
Yerin glanced down, then alternated her gaze between her own chest and Chae-yeon’s.
Snicker.
With a victorious smile, Yerin’s lips curled up.
“What’s with that grin? It’s really annoying…”
“Oh, nothing. My shoulders were just feeling a bit stiff.”
Yerin mockingly stretched her arms, loosening her shoulders as she continued to taunt Chae-yeon.
“Must be nice for you. I bet your shoulders never get sore.”
“Excuse me… Are you done talking?”
Objectively, Chae-yeon was also quite well-endowed, but she did feel lacking compared to Yerin. The bikini incident had already fueled her inferiority complex, and this jab at her chest hit her hard.
Whoosh.
Yerin then wrapped her right arm around Si-hyun’s arm, pressing her chest forward, and asked with a smirk,
“Si-hyun, you like them bigger, right? You know, the kind you can’t hold with just one hand?”
Her bold move made the guys around them swallow nervously, throwing envious glances Si-hyun’s way.
Struggling to peel her off, Si-hyun sighed, filling a paper cup with water and pressing it to her lips.
“You’re really drunk. Stop talking nonsense and drink some water.”
“Hmph…”
Unhappy with his reaction, Yerin sipped the water.
Watching this, Chae-yeon held out her empty cup with both hands.
“I-I’m thirsty too. Give me some water.”
“Don’t you have hands? Here’s the bottle, pour it yourself.”
His cold response stung. When they’d been together, he’d refill her drink without hesitation. Now, he didn’t even bother to take care of her.
While Chae-yeon’s chest tightened in sadness,
“Hm… I’m getting sleepy…”
Yerin, after drinking her water, began to blink regularly before eventually dozing off on Si-hyun’s shoulder.
“Finally, some peace and quiet…”
Si-hyun sighed in relief, glancing at the now softly breathing Yerin leaning on his shoulder. He looked at her with a gentle expression.
Carefully moving her hair aside and supporting her body, he said,
“You should head in too, before you drink too much.”
Offering Chae-yeon some sincere advice, he picked Yerin up in a princess carry.
And with each step, he grew farther from Chae-yeon.
“Oh…”
In the past, when she’d gotten drunk, Si-hyun had often carried her back. She remembered the broadness of his back, the scent of his fabric softener, and how he’d cover her with a blanket.
Now, all of it was taken by Yerin.
‘Si-hyun…’
Before she knew it, Chae-yeon’s hand was reaching out, clinging to the hope he’d come back to her. She sat there, lingering, drinking as if that would make him return.
“Chae-yeon, time to go in…”
“No… I’m staying…”
Si-hyun never returned, and it was So-hee who eventually took Chae-yeon back to her room.
* * *
Si-hyun carried Yerin into the room. The others were still partying outside, so the room was empty, and he carefully laid her down on the prepared bed.
“I told you not to drink, didn’t I…”
He sighed deeply, covering her with a blanket. Then, as he tried to remove her arm draped over his neck, he leaned in carefully.
“Hm?”
At that moment, something wrapped around his back. Realizing it was Yerin’s legs, he chuckled softly in disbelief.
“You really do have terrible sleeping habits.”
Yerin had a tendency to somehow end up clinging to him in her sleep; this wasn’t the first time he’d experienced it.
‘I should get out of here before anyone gets the wrong idea.’
With Yerin’s arms wrapped around his neck, Si-hyun tilted his head to let her arm slide off. Then, to lift her legs from around his waist, he reached between his thighs to free himself.
“Mm…”
Somehow, Yerin had woken up, watching him with a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
“Wait, when did you wake up?!”
“Just now. I felt someone touching me, so I was going to give them a piece of my mind…”
She looked at him teasingly and then continued with a hint of regret,
“If I’d known, I would’ve pretended to stay asleep.”
“Geez… Don’t get the wrong idea, okay? This is all because of your bad sleep habits…”
“No need to explain… I get it.”
“Get what?”
“What else…? Your preferences.”
Yerin avoided his eyes, blushing as she spoke.
“I mean, I wouldn’t mind if something happened while I’m asleep. Just as long as my first time is when I’m fully aware…”
Seeing her playful tone, Si-hyun shook her by the shoulders.
“That kind of talk tells me you’re still tipsy. You should sleep it off.”
Flustered, Si-hyun turned to leave, but—
Snap!
Yerin wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his face close to hers. Her voice turned serious.
“I’m not joking. I’m being serious.”
“Yerin…”
With her grip tightening, their noses touched. Yerin swallowed, her voice trembling as she said,
“Kim Si-hyun, I like you. I’ve loved you even before you dated Chae-yeon, and I love you more than anyone else.”
The faint scent of alcohol lingered on her breath, but Si-hyun knew her words weren’t the result of intoxication. Her feelings were genuine.
In that moment, Yerin reminded him of his past self, back when he’d been madly in love with Chae-yeon.
‘So this is what it feels like to be loved by someone…’
Having always been the one giving love, Yerin’s confession filled the empty spaces in Si-hyun’s heart.
Feeling warmth spreading within him, Si-hyun was about to respond when—
“…Are you asleep?”
Already, Yerin had drifted off again, satisfied after spilling her heart.
He almost laughed at the absurdity of it—how she’d confessed so earnestly only to fall right to sleep.
Si-hyun almost gave her a playful flick on the forehead but settled for simply pulling himself free. Gently, he smoothed her hair and murmured,
“You always nagged me for having bad taste… but it looks like you’re no different, falling for a guy like me.”
With her face peaceful
In sleep, memories of performing CPR on her came flooding back.
“Anyway… thanks for coming back safely.”
He brushed his fingers over her cheek, and his hand stopped at her lips. He’d kissed these lips more times than he’d ever expected today.
Unconsciously, Si-hyun found himself leaning in and pressing his lips softly against hers.
And then, he lay down beside her, falling into a deep sleep.
