Chapter 105: Chapter 106: The Silver Trial

As Kevaugn's words echoed across the mountaintop, two Silver-level cards materialized on the battlefield with practiced precision. The spiritual pressure emanating from them was substantial, clearly indicating their advanced tier.

"Overconfidence, or are these Silver-level cards evolved from lower-tier foundations?" Azrael analyzed silently, his tactical mind already assessing the energy signatures radiating from his opponent's summoned entities.

For this battle, Azrael maintained a pragmatic outlook. Victory would be ideal, but defeat wouldn't be catastrophic, after all, this marked his first serious confrontation since achieving Silver-level advancement. The experience itself held value regardless of the outcome.

But observing Kevaugn's disdainful expression, Azrael felt his competitive instincts sharpening. "There's definitely a chance here."

Since Kevaugn held a main member position, Harold had already briefed Azrael on the general capabilities of his opponent's two Silver-level cards during their walk to the Battle Club.

[Yaksha] and [Asura].

Azrael had encountered a Yaksha before, back in Velkairos, Levi's Black Iron-level card had been a Dragon variant. But Kevaugn's current manifestations were clearly different, both drawn from Buddhism's Eight Guardian Generals series rather than Chinese dragon mythology.

"Unlikely to be the Eight Great Generals themselves or an actual Asura King," Azrael reasoned, studying the cards' spiritual signatures. "Those entities would require Gold-level materials at minimum."

According to Indian mythological traditions, dedicated practice could elevate Asura Kings to tremendous heights, some legendary figures had achieved power levels that would translate to Diamond-tier cards in this world's classification system.

The voluptuous, exposed posture of the Asura immediately identified her as female. After all, the appearance differences between male and female Asura were quite pronounced in traditional depictions.

On the battlefield, sensing the mounting pressure from their opponents, Yoriichi immediately began his transformation sequence.

"Incinerate all evil and burn everything to ash!"

"Nichirin!"

Golden-red flames erupted across the training ground instantly, their scorching temperature forcing the spectating students to retreat several steps from the combat zone. The very air seemed to shimmer with heat distortion as supernatural fire wreathed Yoriichi's form.

"Holy shit, Azrael has that technique!" Harold stared at the scene with wide eyes, his voice cracking with amazement. Despite knowing Azrael for only two days, he was witnessing capabilities that defied his understanding of normal freshman abilities.

Arnald touched his hair, now slightly singed from the surging flames, and muttered in disbelief, "Just that one card alone isn't weaker than our main team members."

The next moment, under the fascinated gaze of everyone present, the overwhelming golden-red flames gathered and condensed around Yoriichi's body and blade, transforming him into a figure of living solar fire.

"Interesting technique, but that won't be enough to defeat me," Kevaugn observed with calculated interest, his analytical mind processing the spiritual energy readings.

After his opponent's transformation, the strength of Yoriichi's aura had climbed to levels approaching true Silver-tier power, impressive for what appeared to be a Bronze-level card, but still within manageable parameters.

Yoriichi exhaled slowly, golden-red flames dancing in his breath as the air around him distorted with heat, making his expression difficult to discern through the wavering atmosphere.

In the next instant, his blade swept forward in a devastating arc. Thousands of golden-red cutting waves erupted from the movement, each one carrying enough thermal energy to char everything in their path as they surged toward the opposing cards.

However, under Yaksha's indifferent gaze, the blade projections, despite their terrifying temperature, crashed against a barrier wall composed of intricate Buddhist scriptures that had materialized in front of the duo.

BOOM!

The violent explosion sent shockwaves across the mountaintop, causing the scripture-based barrier to tremble and flex under the assault. But despite the devastating display of power, the defensive wall held firm, leaving the two cards behind it completely unharmed.

But damaging the opponents hadn't been Yoriichi's primary objective.

Nami had already raised her Clima-Tact and charged forward with determined purpose.

Friends familiar with strategic card games understood the concept, sometimes death-rattle effects were best triggered voluntarily rather than waiting for optimal timing.

As Nami slowly dissipated under Asura's gleaming scimitar, her defeat triggering the bond effect they'd been planning for, Luffy's enraged roar echoed across the mountain peak.

The next moment, a massive fist materialized directly in front of Yaksha and Asura, its size dwarfing both opponents completely.

"Gomu Gomu no Jet Giant Pistol!"

BANG!

The ground beneath the mountaintop trembled and cracked under Luffy's devastating Third Gear assault, throwing up massive clouds of dust and debris that obscured the battlefield for several seconds.

The watching students felt the impact through their feet, the sheer force of the blow creating minor tremors that spoke to its incredible power.

"That attack has to be Silver-level, right?" someone whispered in awe.

"I don't think even combining all my cards could stop something like that," another student admitted with nervous admiration.

The twin brothers exchanged meaningful glances, both reaching the same conclusion. With this level of offensive capability, only a handful of students in the entire Card Making Department could mount effective resistance.

"Now I understand why he's Master Lucian's disciple," Harold said quietly, realization dawning in his voice. "He was accepted because he's genuinely powerful, not the other way around."

They'd been getting cause and effect backwards all along.

Kevaugn felt his confidence waver as he processed what he'd just witnessed. "Is this the foundation for challenging me?"

But even as doubt crept into his mind, his tactical training kicked in. "My Eight Guardian bond provides additional defense!"

Under the amazed stares of students gathered atop the mountain, despite the scripture barrier now showing significant damage and stress fractures, it continued standing firmly between his cards and Luffy's overwhelming assault.

"He still hasn't broken through, worthy of being a main Battle Club member," one observer noted with grudging respect.

"Then this Azrael is probably in trouble," another concluded.

"Hey, he's just a freshman after all. Maybe challenging the main members was premature, he should have waited to develop more," a third student suggested.

"Well, attempting it won't hurt anything. This Azrael will definitely be a main member next year regardless."

"Speaking of which, doesn't he still have a Silver-level card? Why hasn't she made any moves?"

The students present weren't stupid, they could clearly see that Luffy, despite being only Bronze-level, would require tremendous energy expenditure to maintain such devastating techniques.

"My turn comes next," Kevaugn declared with returning confidence, but in that moment, his mental senses detected something troubling about the Silver-level card that had remained motionless since the battle's beginning.

"Hadō #90: Kurohitsugi."

The gentle female voice carried clearly across the entire venue, and simultaneously, an enormous black coffin materialized around Yaksha and Asura, completely enveloping both entities within its dark confines.

Countless ethereal black blades materialized within the coffin's interior, each one carrying the weight of spiritual destruction as they pierced toward the trapped opponents.

"A long-range spellcaster?" Kevaugn finally understood why his opponent's Silver-level card had remained inactive since entering the battlefield. "She was probably preparing this high-level technique."

The dark coffin gradually dissipated, revealing the aftermath of the spell's devastating effect. The previously damaged scripture barrier had completely vanished, while both Yaksha and Asura now bore numerous fine wounds across their forms, crimson traces marking where the phantom blades had found their marks.

"Couldn't finish them off?" Azrael observed his opponent's surviving cards with mild disappointment. "But at least the turtle shell is broken, we can claim victory now!"

From the battle's opening moments, he'd instructed his cards to prioritize buying time for Unohana Retsu to complete her incantation. If the Black Coffin could eliminate both opponents directly, that would be optimal. But even if it couldn't, the technique would still weaken their condition significantly.

Azrael didn't believe that opponents could emerge completely unscathed from a technique that had instantly killed hollows in the original series, even if those particular hollows had been relatively weak.

Observing the visible injuries on Yaksha and Asura, Kevaugn's expression gradually darkened as he caught the scent of impending defeat.

"We can't continue like this," he decided, studying Unohana Retsu's serene smile with growing apprehension. "Yaksha will handle the two Bronze-level cards, while Asura deals with the Silver-level threat."

"As long as she can close distance with that long-range caster, Asura can finish her with a single strike!"

Originally, he'd been considering a more measured approach, but after witnessing Luffy's enraged Third Gear and Unohana Retsu's advanced Kidō techniques, he understood that half-measures would lead to genuine defeat.

On the battlefield, sensing his master's tactical shift, dense Buddhist scriptures materialized around Yaksha. The glowing characters transformed into binding ropes that immediately entangled both Yoriichi and Luffy, restricting their movement significantly.

Seeing Yaksha's restraining technique, Yoriichi channeled golden-red flames along his blade and unleashed a massive cutting wave that carved deep furrows in the ground as it swept toward his captor.

"Gomu Gomu no Jet Giant Battle Axe!"

Luffy's right foot expanded to enormous proportions, descending from above like a building-sized hammer aimed at Yaksha's position.

The previously flat mountaintop shattered into chunks of stone and rubble within moments, forming a crater so substantial that several students had to retreat to avoid falling debris.

Witnessing the horrific destruction across the battlefield, the watching students couldn't help but swallow nervously as they calculated their own survival chances against such overwhelming attacks.

Unfortunately, most reached the same frustrating conclusion: even without deploying his Silver-level card, Azrael's Bronze-level entities alone would overwhelm their defenses completely.

While this three-way battle raged, Asura had already materialized behind Unohana Retsu's position, her gleaming scimitar raised for what appeared to be a decisive strike.

However, when the spectators noticed Asura's positioning, they couldn't help but feel sympathy for Azrael's situation.

"Kevaugn's going to win. Once Asura eliminates that Silver-level card, the remaining Bronze-level cards won't pose any threat," one student predicted with certainty.

"Yeah, what a shame," another agreed.

The twin brothers began mentally preparing consolation words for Azrael's inevitable defeat.

"Victory is mine!" Kevaugn shouted internally as he watched the scene unfold. "These newcomers nowadays really are monsters."

After witnessing the capabilities of both Luffy and Yoriichi, he'd already elevated Azrael to peer-level status in his mind, despite his opponent possessing only a single Silver-level card.

But fortunately, his Asura had successfully approached the enemy's vulnerable support caster.

"The triumph will be mine," Kevaugn thought, preparing to observe Azrael's reaction to his card's elimination. Instead, he found only a confident smile. "What does that expression mean?"

The next moment, Asura's scimitar, flashing with deadly intent, was blocked completely.

Simultaneously, a terrifying spiritual pressure erupted across the mountaintop like a physical force, spreading throughout the entire training ground.

Students with weaker mental conditioning began collapsing and fainting on the sidelines, overwhelmed by the crushing weight of supernatural killing intent.

Teacher Chisaki immediately summoned his own cards to protect the spectating students. "No wonder he dared to challenge the main members," he muttered with professional admiration.

"Young people nowadays are truly incredible."

Harold stared at the battlefield with trembling legs, stammering to his brother, "I... I feel weak in the knees."

Arnald supported his twin while replying, "That's the card's intimidation ability. It's not even targeting us directly, how can it be so terrifying?"

He naturally understood that the students on the sidelines were merely experiencing collateral effects.

At this moment, Kevaugn's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the expressionless woman now gripping her katana with casual menace. "Not a long-range specialist?!"

In the next instant, the woman who had seemed like two completely different people moments before swung her blade toward Asura.

The most simple and unadorned slash, yet carrying the heaviest sense of oppression imaginable.

BANG!

Asura dodged desperately, but instead of striking her target, the sword stroke carved a deep trench in the ground where she'd been standing.

"Gulp." Kevaugn wiped sweat from his brow as he processed the scene before him.

Unohana Retsu's casual slash had nearly matched his own card's full-power attacks in terms of speed and destructive force.

"Did you dodge? How interesting." A cold voice emerged from the woman who had previously presented herself as a gentle healer.

"What kind of card is this?!" Kevaugn felt his composure cracking. Everything had gone wrong the moment Asura had attacked that deceptive woman.

On the sidelines, Azrael's peripheral vision caught sight of several figures standing beside Teacher Chisaki, clearly faculty members rather than students, including his senior sister Alice.

"What's the situation? Who are these two combatants?" a middle-aged man frowned as he addressed Teacher Chisaki.

Teacher Chisaki smiled bitterly at the question. "A freshman challenged the main Battle Club members."

A middle-aged woman glanced at the battlefield with raised eyebrows. "I assumed as much. I remember there are no practical classes scheduled for this time period. This is quite disruptive. But can a freshman really possess such capabilities?"

"That freshman is Master Lucian's disciple."

Upon hearing this revelation, several middle-aged faculty members immediately shifted their attention to Alice.

Alice nodded slightly, confirming Teacher Chisaki's statement.

The middle-aged man's expression relaxed considerably. "So he's Master Lucian's disciple."

"I heard our school made an exception to admit a student mid-semester this year. Now it seems the reputation is well-deserved."

While they spoke, Unohana Retsu had already flash-stepped directly in front of Asura.

The seemingly effortless slash descended from above at incredible speed, carrying an aura of absolute finality.

"I'm going to die, I'm going to die, I'm going to die!!!" Kevaugn, despite being some distance from Asura, felt panic alarms screaming in his mind.

The terrifying killing intent had completely overwhelmed him, making breathing difficult as primal fear gripped his consciousness.

The pupils of several observing teachers contracted slightly as they recognized the deadly nature of the attack.

In the next instant, a middle-aged Taoist priest in yellow robes appeared in front of Unohana Retsu, his right hand crackling with lightning as he gently grasped her blade.

BOOM!

Amid the deafening explosion, the Taoist priest remained unharmed, but the ground beneath his feet instantly shattered from the tremendous force.

Half of the mountaintop training ground on Kevaugn's side collapsed entirely, creating a dramatic cliff face where stable ground had existed moments before.

Witnessing this scene, several teachers on the sidelines breathed sighs of relief. "Thank goodness Professor Alice intervened, it would be embarrassing if other schools learned that our students were injured by aftershocks while spectating."

Unohana Retsu's attack speed had been too fast for the Bronze and Black Iron-level students to react, but fortunately, Alice had responded in time.

Many students now stood beside the protective Yellow Turban Warrior with lingering fear.

Kevaugn also found himself at the edge of the collapsed battlefield, staring in shock. "That Silver-level card is definitely Red quality!"

"Only Red quality could possess such destructive power!"

As a main member, he'd naturally encountered Silver-level Gold cards before and even fought against them, after all, the other main members possessed Gold-tier Silver-level cards.

But even Gold cards weren't as terrifying as the woman who had now resumed her gentle expression on the battlefield.

"Freshmen nowadays are too monstrous."

At this point, Azrael found himself surrounded by several faculty members.

"Hello, teachers. Hello, senior sister," he greeted politely before turning to Teacher Chisaki. "Teacher Chisaki, I should be eligible to become a main member now."

Teacher Chisaki glanced at the half-collapsed training ground with remarkable composure. "No problem. I'll communicate with Kevaugn if he has any objections."

"Though you were perhaps a bit... excessive."

Azrael scratched his head sheepishly. "This was my first battle with a Silver-level card. I didn't realize it would create such a disturbance."

Hearing this explanation, the present teachers nodded with understanding, now they grasped why Azrael hadn't held back at the end.

Seeing that the battle had concluded, several teachers prepared to depart. They'd originally felt the terrifying spiritual pressure from Unohana Retsu while teaching in the nearby academic building and had rushed over to investigate.

Before leaving, Azrael noticed his senior sister Alice hesitate briefly before finally giving him a thumbs up.

Azrael smiled back at Alice, though internally he was calculating tactical adjustments. Retsu has been exposed now. Future opponents will definitely prepare countermeasures for her [Yachiru: Dormant] trait.

Even if they don't trigger that ability, Retsu can still function as a long-range caster and healer to frustrate them.

But I still need to find ways to create additional Silver-level cards.

Fortunately, the scholarship package from Pixar University includes an annual self-selected welfare secret realm access.

The pieces were falling into place for his continued development, but this battle had revealed both his current capabilities and the need for strategic diversification. With proper planning, the resources available to him would accelerate his growth far beyond normal student limitations.
