Chapter 144: Against the Goblins III

Leon and the group strolled deeper into the forest, chatting casually as they moved. The distant sounds of goblin chatter didn't faze them—they had already decided this area was theirs to clear out.

The first goblin camp they came across was almost laughable. A handful of goblins sat around a poorly built fire, gnawing on scraps of meat. Leon didn't even need to draw his weapon. With a flick of his hand, a surge of mana swept through the camp, sending the goblins flying. Millim darted in, her wolf Benz at her side, finishing off the stragglers with ease.

"That's one," Leon said casually, brushing dirt off his coat as they moved on.

The next camp was a bit larger, led by a hobgoblin wielding a rusty sword. "Ooh, this one looks important," Naval teased, summoning a glowing arrow of energy. She loosed it, taking down two goblins before they could even scream.

Millim laughed, her weapon crashing down on the hobgoblin, splitting its weapon in half before Benz leapt on it. "That wasn't much of a fight," she said, pouting.

Camp after camp fell in much the same way. Goblins charged out of their tents, only to be met with Leon's effortless blasts of energy or Liliana's precision magic. Mimi, her sleek black cat, prowled among the chaos, occasionally creating illusions to confuse the goblins and make them easier targets.

Eventually, they came upon a larger camp, where a towering hobgoblin shaman waited in the center. Its staff glowed with faint red runes as it chanted something in a guttural tone. Shadowy figures began to rise around it.

Leon raised an eyebrow. "Oh, finally something... not challenging but at least different," he said, his tone almost bored.

The shaman raised its staff, but before it could finish whatever spell it was casting, Leon snapped his fingers. A sharp, concentrated burst of energy shot out, shattering the staff in one clean hit. The shaman froze, staring at the splinters in its hands.

"That's it?" Naval said, blinking.

"Guess so," Leon replied with a shrug as Benz lunged forward, pinning the shaman to the ground. Millim patted her wolf on the head. "Good boy, Benz. You didn't even need help for that one."

The group continued their walk through the forest, leaving the remnants of goblin camps in their wake. "If this is the kind of resistance we're going to face, we might as well take a break soon," Leon said, stretching lazily.

"Yeah, yeah," Liliana replied, rolling her eyes. "Maybe next time we'll find something that actually requires effort."

With that, they moved on, their sights set on the next prey lurking in the forest.

" lest go separate ways" Roselia said as leon nodded after a moment of thought " Roman and you go in one direction, and rest will come with me" he said as roman and roselia nodded.

The forest grew quieter as they ventured deeper, the goblin camps becoming fewer and farther between. After clearing yet another group, Leon leaned against a tree, watching as Millim played with Benz, tossing sticks for him to fetch. Naval was inspecting her arrows, and Liliana sat on a fallen log, absently petting Mimi, who purred contentedly.

"Think we've scared off the rest?" Millim asked, glancing at Leon.

"Unlikely. Goblins aren't that smart," Leon replied, smirking. "There's always more of them hiding somewhere, probably thinking they're safe."

As if on cue, the faint sound of chanting reached their ears. It was deeper and more rhythmic than before, a clear indication of something unusual.

"Another shaman?" Naval asked, drawing her bow.

"Sounds like it," Liliana said, standing and brushing dirt off her cloak.

Leon didn't seem particularly concerned. "Let's check it out. Maybe this one will put up a better fight," he said, motioning for the group to follow.

They moved quietly, slipping through the dense foliage until they came upon a clearing. In the center stood a circle of hobgoblins, their shaman in the middle. This one was taller than the last, its staff adorned with glowing red crystals. Around it were crudely carved totems radiating an eerie energy.

The shaman's chanting grew louder, and dark tendrils of magic began to form in the air. Unlike the previous camps, this one had clearly prepared for a serious fight.

"Finally, something interesting," Leon said, his smirk widening.

Before anyone else could react, Naval loosed an arrow, shattering one of the totems. The magic around the shaman flickered for a moment before stabilizing. "Didn't like that, did you?" she said, grinning.

The hobgoblins roared, charging at them. Millim leapt into the fray, her axe cleaving through them with ease as Benz darted around, knocking them off balance. Liliana stayed back, weaving illusions that caused the goblins to attack each other in their confusion.

Leon strolled forward, unconcerned by the chaos around him. The shaman locked eyes with him, its glowing staff aimed in his direction. A blast of dark magic shot toward him, but Leon raised a hand, effortlessly absorbing the attack.

"Not bad," he said casually, "but not good enough."

With a wave of his hand, a shockwave of energy erupted from him, sending the hobgoblins flying. The shaman staggered but managed to stay on its feet, snarling as it prepared another spell.

Leon sighed, almost disappointed. "You really don't learn, do you?"

This time, he didn't wait. A precise burst of energy shot from his palm, striking the shaman directly in the chest. It let out a guttural cry as the dark magic around it dissipated, and it collapsed to the ground.

"Well, that was a bit more effort," Leon said, dusting off his coat.

"Not much, though," Millim said, walking over and nudging the fallen shaman with her boot. "Guess that's all they've got."

"Still, these totems are interesting," Liliana said, examining one of the shattered carvings. "They were trying to summon something. Good thing we stopped them before they succeeded."

Leon shrugged. "Doesn't matter what they were planning. They wouldn't have stood a chance anyway."

With the clearing silent once more, the group regrouped, ready to move on. "Where to next?" Naval asked, slinging her bow over her shoulder.

Leon glanced at the horizon, the forest stretching endlessly before them. "Let's keep going. There's bound to be something worth our time eventually."

And with that, they continued their hunt, leaving behind yet another defeated camp as the forest echoed with their triumph.
