Chapter 127: History of the universe
Ethan sat on the seat. Melissa was still standing, not daring to sit down.
Ethan gestured for her to sit.
Only after that did Melissa sit down.
Ethan said, "Now tell me everything about this universe. I would like to know."
Ethan wouldn't find a more fitting person to gain information about this universe. This woman was a realm higher than the Universe Supreme—who else could give him more insight than her?
Melissa nodded and slowly started.
"This universe has two realms. The lower realm, which is this World of the Ancients. There are countless lower realms like this one. Then there is the upper realm, like the Immortal Realm and Demon Realm."
Ethan said, "You mean the universe is divided into two spaces of order? Where the lower realm can hold only a certain level of power, and if anyone wants to go higher, they need to ascend to the higher realm?"
Melissa nodded. "Exactly. Not only that, the energy system is totally different. The higher realm has immortal energy, whereas the lower realm has spirit energy. The lower realm can only support up to Mahayana Realm powerhouses. If anyone wants to go higher than that, like into the Profound Immortal Realm—they would need immortal energy."
Ethan had a look of realization.
"So that's how it is. Tell me the names of the power realms," he asked again.
"1. Mahayana
2. Profound Immortal
3. True Immortal
4. Golden Immortal
5. Taoist Golden Immortal
6. Immortal King
7. Immortal Emperor
8. Saint
9. Supreme
The highest realm now is the Saint Realm. There is a curse in the universe, where no one can break through to the Supreme Realm anymore. Only my master is in that realm, but he can't leave the Forbidden Zone."
Melissa was a Saint.
"So you start with the Mahayana Realm—why is that?" Ethan asked again.
"Only Mahayana Realm cultivators can go from the lower realm to the higher realm. Anyone below that cannot go unless they are born in the higher realm," Melissa answered patiently.
Ethan thought in his mind, "So Mahayana is the Tier 1. Below that realm, everything is Tier 0,the same as his universe like the Martial Warrior to Martial Emperor."
There was another problem. Tier 1 was not similar everywhere.
He knew the ancestor of the Overlord Sect was a Mahayana Level 6 realm cultivator, but he had five Sun-level power, whereas the Planetary Realm in his universe was nowhere near that level.
So, higher-order universes had higher-order lifeforms with more power—even if they were the same tier of lifeform.
Then there was a possibility that the enemies outside the universe were hundreds or thousands of times stronger, even if they were of similar tier existence.
But he need not to worry. He had the ultimate weapon now, thirty minutes of getting the power of a Tier 17 existence. He felt smug for a while.
But then he had a sudden realization. What if he activated the Chaos Ruler form and the real Chaos Ruler sensed his aura? Wouldn't he attack him directly? Two lions couldn't live on the same mountain.
Damn! He hadn't thought about this before.
[Excellent analyzing power, Master.]
Ethan even got praise from the system for realizing this.
He smiled wryly. "You knew this and didn't warn me. You really want me to die so that you can get another host, right, you bastard?"
[The system can't leave you, Master. If you die, the system will vanish. But don't worry you won't die so easily. I have many protocols.]
Ethan didn't argue. So what if there was a Chaos Ruler? He would kill him in that thirty minutes if something like that ever occurred.
He got back his confidence again.
When Melissa saw Ethan was silent, she stopped talking too.
Ethan then looked at her. "Tell me more. Why aren't there any Supremes in the universe anymore? And why can't your master leave the Forbidden Zone? And where is this Forbidden Zone?"
Melissa began again after Ethan finished.
"An apocalypse hit our universe ten billion years ago. An outer-universal enemy attacked us. All the Supremes needed to sacrifice their life to fight against that enemy. Even so, they couldn't kill him.
That was the moment my master was breaking through to the Supreme Realm. When he finished his breakthrough and went to the battlefield, they saw the enemy was still hanging on by his last thread of life.
So, my master delivered the finishing blow."
Melissa stopped after saying that. Ethan could tell she was afraid to mention that event.
Melissa started again, "But after the finishing blow was delivered, a life-bound artifact of that unknown enemy activated a curse. Our universe fell into eternal damnation, and as for Master, because he delivered the final blow, he was trapped in the battlefield. Our universe was also divided into two realms from then on.
This World of the Ancient was the realm where the battle occurred, and the Forbidden Zone was the exact battlefield. The corpse of that enemy is still there in the Forbidden Zone. Master tried with all his power, but still couldn't destroy that corpse."
Ethan was thrilled by the story. Damn!
He asked, "What about the corpses of the other Supremes? Did their corpses decay?"
Melissa shook her head. "No. Master preserved their corpses in the hope that he might find a way to bring them back again. But five hundred years ago, Master received a prophecy from the will of the universe that a great apocalypse was coming again. So, Master thought the corpse of that outerversal enemy might become alive again, or maybe another enemy would come to attack us."
Ethan finally understood everything. This universe was full of adventure. Haha.
"I hope the apocalypse will come a bit later so that I might get enough power to enjoy the fight or else I'll need to use that power," he thought in his mind.
Ethan then said, "Okay, but why is the Demon Realm invading here?"
Melissa said, "They are probably looking for their ancestor's corpse."
But her eyes turned cold.
Their ancestor had also contributed in that battle. He was a valiant hero. But the demons now had no morals. They only wanted destruction and control.
Ethan said, "Okay. But why didn't you stop that incarnation? He could have killed all of mankind from this world, you know?"
Melissa smiled wryly.
"I also can't leave the Forbidden Zone as I wish. The curse power of that zone is tremendous. It also contaminated me, though not as much as Master. I used an artifact to come out this time, but I only do this if absolutely necessary."
"How long can you stay now that you've come out?" Ethan asked curiously.
"About one month. Then I'll have to go back. The artifact will take five hundred years to be able to be used again."
"So would you stay here or go back?"
"I'll go back, as I got my answers. I am also relieved that someone like you is living here."
Ethan smiled. "Don't put your faith in me. I'm not sure I'll even intervene or not if the apocalypse descends now."
Melissa smiled. "Your mere presence is enough. I'll take my leave. I have to give my report to Master. Bye, Mr. Hunt."
Ethan nodded.
