Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Don’t Destroy Our Friendship
Thirty minutes later.
Yui Yuigahama gently pulled the blanket over Su Yu and quietly left his room.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw three girls busy in the kitchen.
"Yui, leave dinner to us. You can stay by Su Yu-kun's side and wait for him to wake up." Hina Ebina smiled at her.
"I can help too!" Yui blushed and tried to step into the kitchen.
"Yuigahama-san, your cooking skills are not yet qualified for this domain." Yukino Yukinoshita stated flatly.
"Yukinon…"
"Yui, just sit tight." Yumiko Miura glanced at her.
"Fine…" Yui pouted in disappointment.
She knew her cooking skills were lacking, but at least she could help a little, right?
"Once I learn how to cook, I'll make something amazing for you all!" Yui clenched her fists with determination and sat down.
Yukino had decided to make curry.
Hina and Yumiko helped prepare the ingredients before leaving the kitchen.
The fragrant aroma of Yukino's cooking quickly filled the air.
Yui glanced toward the kitchen, her stomach grumbling softly.
Then, she looked toward Su Yu's room.
He seemed really exhausted—he probably wouldn't be able to join them for dinner.
Soon, the curry was ready.
Yukino served the three girls their portions and then walked over to Su Yu's door.
She opened it slightly—
Su Yu was still asleep, breathing steadily.
Yukino, remembering his enhanced memory, seemed deep in thought.
She gently closed the door and returned to the dining table.
"Su Yu-kun probably overused his brain. He might need a long rest. After dinner, we can—" Yukino paused and looked at Yui. "Yuigahama-san, are you staying to take care of him?"
"I… I'll go home with you all." Yui's face flushed.
"Yui staying behind wouldn't be a problem. Just be careful, okay?" Hina teased with a knowing smile.
"Hina…!" Yui covered her face in embarrassment.
"Yui, you and Su Yu-kun…?" Yumiko looked at her, trailing off mid-sentence.
"We… haven't made it official yet." Yui lowered her head, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red.
"You're not officially together yet? Why not?" Yukino asked bluntly.
"Su Yu-kun hasn't confessed yet, so…"
"Yuigahama-san, you should confess first instead of waiting for him." Yukino looked at her.
"But…"
"I know you're shy, but if you confess, your uncertainty will lessen." Yukino said seriously.
"I… I'll try." Yui understood Yukino's point but avoided her gaze nervously.
"Seize the opportunity. Don't hesitate." Yukino advised before resuming her meal.
Yui nodded, her expression filled with anticipation.
Hina smiled, silently supporting Yui's decision.
Meanwhile, Yumiko's expression grew complicated. She lowered her head and ate quietly.
After dinner, it was almost dark outside.
The girls cleaned up the dishes and the living room before heading downstairs.
As they reached the front door, Yumiko searched her pockets, looking troubled.
"Yumiko, what's wrong?" Yui asked.
"I think I left my phone upstairs. Wait here for me." Yumiko said before heading back inside.
Hina watched her with a frown.
She knew Yumiko never let her phone out of her sight.
Once, when Hina had forgotten her own phone, it was Yumiko who reminded her—she was always careful.
Considering Hayama's recent apology and the conversation between Yukino and Yui earlier…
"Yumiko, don't destroy our friendship."
Hina turned to look at Su Yu's room upstairs.
A few minutes later.
Yumiko opened the door to Su Yu's room.
She glanced around—the sofa, the desk…
She knew exactly where her phone was—because she had left it there on purpose.
The real reason she came back was…
Yumiko hesitated for a moment, then slowly walked toward Su Yu's bed.
He was still sleeping.
His breathing was calm, his face handsome and peaceful.
"I'm sorry, Yui." Yumiko whispered in her heart as she leaned closer to Su Yu.
She was just about to kiss him when—
Su Yu's phone suddenly rang.
His eyes snapped open instantly.
Yumiko froze.
Su Yu turned his head to look at her but said nothing.
He calmly picked up his phone, glanced at the screen, and set it back down without answering or declining the call.
"The caller is Hina Ebina." Su Yu stated flatly.
Yumiko's face turned pale as she lowered her head.
Why had Hina called at this exact moment? The reason was obvious.
"Miura-san, if you truly like me, I'd be happy." Su Yu said. "But if this is just out of gratitude—if your heart still belongs to Hayama—I can't accept it."
Yumiko's eyes widened in shock.
"Of course, if you just want someone to keep you company, I'm happy to oblige. But I won't take responsibility. I won't let Yui find out. And I won't spend a single yen on you. Can you accept that?"
"Su Yu-kun, you—"
"To be honest, my original target was you." Su Yu admitted. "But your feelings for Hayama were too strong. I knew I couldn't break that connection. So when you introduced Yui to me, I accepted it. I never expected you two to break apart. And I certainly never expected you to develop feelings for me."
Yumiko opened her mouth but couldn't find the words.
She had felt it before—that Su Yu once had an interest in her.
And yet, she had pushed him toward Yui.
"Miura-san, you have two choices." Su Yu continued. "Forget this happened, and we remain friends. Or, accept my relationship with Yui. I'll treat you as a girlfriend in private, but publicly, I won't acknowledge it. If anyone finds out, I'll put all the blame on you."
"I…" Yumiko's eyes were filled with conflict.
"You don't have to answer now. I'll give you a month to think it over. Hopefully, by then, you'll have cooled down and lost interest in me." Su Yu cut off her hesitation before she could respond.
