Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Using an Apology to Create an Opportunity
After school.
Su Yu packed up his things and glanced in Yui Yuigahama's direction.
Sensing his gaze, Yui smiled at him.
Seeing her smile, Su Yu turned and walked out of the classroom. Yui waved a small goodbye to her two friends before hurrying after him.
Yumiko Miura watched the two leave, feeling a slight sense of loss.
She still hadn't figured out what Su Yu's message from earlier truly meant.
On the Way to the Service Club
"I talked a lot with Yukinoshita-san this afternoon. Even though she doesn't like watching TV, she really enjoys cooking…"
"She reads books that I can't even understand… Maybe that's why she's so good at academics…"
"Oh! And she really likes watching movies! But she rarely goes to the theater. So I suggested that we could go together sometime, but she refused."
As they walked, Yui kept chatting about her lunchtime conversation with Yukino.
Su Yu listened silently.
There was no need for him to comment—he already knew these things.
Yukino's cooking skills were no surprise.
She was the type of person who, no matter what she did, would master it through sheer determination.
As for books—
They definitely weren't light novels.
She preferred literary classics and had likely read a vast number of them.
And regarding movie theaters…
Yukino had difficulty being in crowded places, which meant she would naturally avoid them.
"Su Yu-kun? Are you listening to me?" Yui tilted her head.
"I heard everything. Based on what you said, I can already deduce how Yukinoshita-san lives her life."
Su Yu glanced at her.
"…Her life?" Yui blinked in confusion.
"She's a lonely girl who spends her weekends at home reading. She rarely goes outside. Large crowds make her uncomfortable. She has no experience interacting with friends."
Su Yu's tone was calm.
Yui stared at him in surprise.
Then, suddenly—
"Well, Su Yu-kun, you really understand me."
A voice sounded from behind him.
Su Yu paused and turned around.
It was Yukino Yukinoshita.
"This was just my deduction. If you're saying I understand you, then that must mean… everything I just said is true?"
Su Yu looked at her.
"…Was it my sister, or was it Hayama?" Yukino's tone was flat.
"It was neither. I figured it out on my own."
Su Yu shook his head.
"Then guess how I'm feeling right now."
Yukino stared at him.
Hearing this, Su Yu took a moment to carefully examine her expression.
Yukino frowned slightly.
"…You're annoyed—because my stare feels rude to you."
Su Yu answered.
"…I am indeed a little annoyed."
Yukino's voice grew slightly colder.
"…Yukinoshita-san, I-I'm sorry…"
Yui's voice was small and nervous.
"Yuigahama-san, you don't need to apologize. The one who should be apologizing is him."
Yukino shot a glance at Yui before turning her gaze back to Su Yu.
Su Yu immediately bowed slightly.
"…I apologize, Yukinoshita-senpai."
"…Your apology lacks sincerity."
Yukino stared at him.
Su Yu straightened up.
"Then… as compensation, what would you like as a gift? Or is there something you want me to do for you?"
"…I have some books I need to buy. You can help me carry them home from the library."
Yukino hesitated for a moment before making her request.
Su Yu immediately turned to Yui.
"Yui, are you free this Saturday?"
"…Huh?" Yui looked confused.
"If I go alone with Yukinoshita-san, people will misunderstand. If any Sobu High students recognize us, they'll start spreading weird rumors. So, I need you to come with me. Understood?"
Su Yu gave her a knowing look.
Yui instantly understood his intentions.
He was creating an opportunity for her and Yukino to spend time together.
"I got it! I'm free on Saturday." Yui nodded enthusiastically.
Yukino looked at Su Yu but said nothing.
"…That's fine."
Then, she pulled out her phone.
"Yuigahama-san, give me your contact info. I'll send you the time and location later."
Yui was delighted to exchange contacts with Yukino.
Meanwhile, Su Yu stood aside, not particularly interested in Yukino's contact information.
And Yukino, likewise, had no intention of exchanging numbers with him.
The three of them continued toward the Service Club.
Inside the clubroom, Su Yu pulled out Yukino's notebook to study.
Yukino took out her own book to read.
Yui glanced between them, suddenly feeling…
Was she the third wheel here?
But she quickly found something to do—
She pulled out a piece of paper and started drawing.
She was sketching this exact scene—the three of them in the Service Club.
Occasionally, she would glance up to observe them.
After a while, both Su Yu and Yukino noticed her gaze and turned toward her at the same time.
Then—
Their eyes met.
Su Yu's expression remained calm.
Yukino's stare was cold.
The two of them locked gazes, seemingly challenging each other.
I won't lose to him again. Yukino thought.
Meanwhile, Su Yu simply took the opportunity to study her face closely.
Yui, noticing the silent battle, didn't interrupt.
In fact—
She found it… kind of interesting.
Ten minutes later—
"…Done!"
Yui broke the silence in the room.
Both Su Yu and Yukino looked toward her.
Yui smiled and held up her drawing.
The sketch depicted all three of them in the Service Club.
Yui was drawn adorably.
Yukino was beautiful.
Su Yu was handsome.
The art style was cute—but surprisingly good.
"…I didn't know you had this skill, Yuigahama-san."
Yukino was genuinely surprised.
"I just draw occasionally!"
Yui grinned brightly.
"Have you considered becoming a manga artist?" Su Yu asked.
"I've never thought about it! Manga is way too hard to draw!"
Yui shook her head.
"If this were a Game Development Club instead of the Service Club… I would've suggested making a game together."
Su Yu thought aloud.
"Yui would handle character and background art. I'd write the story. Yukinoshita-san would do the music."
"…Making a game together?"
Yui blinked in surprise.
"Not a bad idea."
Yukino suddenly said seriously.
"Text-based adventure games would be relatively easy to develop."
"…Wait, Yukinoshita-san, are we actually making a game now?!"
Yui was shocked.
"If this man can write a truly excellent script… I might consider it."
Yukino nodded.
Hearing this, Yui turned toward Su Yu.
