Chapter 239: The Mythborn Prodigy II
The Mythborn Prodigy II
Titus was so stunned that he didn't even react to the warmth within his body as a result of the increase in stats.
When he did, though, he was startled as he felt certain aspects of himself suddenly increasing significantly.
He quickly opened his status panel and was surprised to see that not only had some of his stats increased as a result of the stat bonuses from the, but there were also a few changes to his status window as well.

Titus blinked.
The sudden increase in his agility, Willpower, and intelligence wasn't unprecedented since it said he would get such an increase after getting the path. Still, the sensation of his power growing in real time was surreal.
The knowledge of his new abilities was implanted in his mind, and he had to take a moment to analyze them.
Path Tier 0 – Initiation
> Unlocked immediately upon choosing Mythborn Prodigy
Trait — Mythic Adaptation (Passive)
Gain increased proficiency and growth rate with all manually-used skills. The more pressure or disadvantage you're under, the faster you evolve in that field.
(+20% skill proficiency gain; +100% under life-threatening conditions)
Trait — Prodigy's Surge (Passive)
When fighting stronger enemies, receive a temporary boost to Agility, Intelligence, and Willpower.
(Up to +10% depending on disparity.)
Both of the Skills were passive, something Titus greatly enjoyed. Moreover, the effects were nothing short of incredible.
Mythic Adaptation was something Titus was quite familiar with. Well, the effects of it anyway. Receiving a boost in his skill growth rate under pressure was something he was familiar with. It's also because of this that whenever he fought stronger opponents and won, he tended to come out of the fight stronger.
Still, the effects of this trait were huge. Not only was the increase higher than whatever he had been capable of in the past, but it was also far more consistent.
Titus could never control when he entered a state of 'flow' as he liked to call it. That strange state where he was focused on nothing but the fight, his mind working on overtime as he pulled out every ounce of skill he possessed and then some, his growth experiencing an explosion mid-battle. An example of this was before he knew of the Dimension when he fought against his former butler Richard. At that time, he was outranked and Richard had several decades of experience over him, while his magic also seemed to make him difficult to hit.
Yet in that exchange where his life was about to be forfeited, he pulled upon every experience he had in that moment and turned it into power. An enhancement technique he'd been struggling to pull off previously was suddenly executed with ease. Any pain or inhibitions he had removed as he focused on his opponent and nothing more.
Titus had tried to enter that state again, but he quickly realized it was something he couldn't pull off at will, and could only happen when he was in a tense situation. Even then, it wasn't certain, an example of this was the battle against the Lenax clone. Maybe because he knew he wouldn't truly die during that fight.
Now though, it seemed like all he needed to do was use a skill manually and he'd get a +20% increase in proficiency, a number that would only rise the more pressure he was under and if that pressure was life-threatening, it would rise to 100%
Then came the other Trait. Prodigy's Surge was quite something. A boost in his primary stats as long as he fought against a stronger opponent was more than welcome.
Granted, the limit was a lot stronger, seeing as the increased capped at 10%. But in a fight, especially one where the stats between opponents were relatively similar, any increase in strength could be a game-changer.
What made Titus so excited was that this Tier of his Path was just 0, and the traits granted were already so good. That's why he looked at the other Path teirs and their requirements, and boy was he excited.
Path Tier 1 – Embers of Potential
Unlocked by: Surviving 3 fatal battles against stronger foes & mastering 3 advanced techniques manually.
Skill — Reflex Bloom (Passive)
Sharpens reflexes by analyzing muscle memory and intent. Slows time perception during high-stakes combat.
(+15% dodge success; +10% parry/counter chance)
Ability — Crescendo Drive (Active, 2-min cooldown)
Temporarily enhances all movement and blade attacks. The longer the battle goes on, the more refined and dangerous you become.
(+1% attack speed and skill damage every second in combat, capped at 40%)
Now this was also appealing. The requirements to enter this tier were quite strict, but also quite fair. Taking into consideration that this entire path focused on his growth and potential, it only made sense that he'd need to push his limits to enter the next tier.
When he saw the Skill Reflex bloom, he had a feeling that a lot of the traits he got from this path played on things he'd done before, but enhanced them to a ridiculous degree.
The first part of the trait that was to analyze muscle memory and intent was something that sort of tied into his Physique. One must remember that the base effect of his physique was that he had perfect muscle memory meaning that once he has learned a technique or skill, even if he forgets it mentally, his body will always remember, which means that it is extremely difficult for him to forget something once learned, which is also one of the reasons he places so much importance on his skill.
This specific trait is something that depends on the length of the fight and how his opponent moves.
Say the opponent used a technique or part of one, and they slashed at his side twice before performing an overhead swing.
The first time, Titus might struggle to block the attack. But after that first time, his body remembers how it worked. So if the opponent uses it again, his body will react accordingly and automatically block or dodge with the appropriate intensity. In short, rendering that move irrelevant after experiencing it.
Granted, this wasn't perfect, and the more complicated the attack, the longer he'd need to 'adapt' to it, so to speak.
An example of this was when he sparred with Kim. Being a speedster, her attack methods simply lacked logic, and she struck from all sorts of angles that made conventional and even unconventional techniques irrelevant, and his success in adapting to her fighting style was less than optimal.
However, Reflex Bloom had taken this skill to another level. Not just that, but the second part which stated his perception of time would slow down during high-stakes combat was much appreciated. He recalled his master telling him that it wasn't wise to overthink in a battle, but at the same time, they shouldn't swing their weapon wildly. It was about finding a balance, and one of the best ways to do so was to analyze tyr opponent's movements to best figure out your next move.
One perception of time slowing down acted as a great way to do this, since he could better observe his opponent's movements and respond accordingly.
Next came the second trait that was actually an active skill, and when Titus saw it, he'd be lying if he said he didn't feel a little skeptical about it.
The ability Crescendo Drive provided seemed great on paper. Once activated, he would gain a +1% increase in attack speed and damage for every second that elapsed.
However, his problem was the time.
One second might not seem like a lot at first glance, but Titus was someone who had long been able to move faster than the speed of light. By the time he even managed to get a single percentage increase as a result of the skill, he'd have clashed with his opponent countless times.
Then again, the stronger one became, the harder they were to kill, and from what he'd read in the library, it wasn't odd for powerful entities who possessed speed beyond comprehension to fight for days or longer.
Not to mention, if a fight truly took him so long that he could get the full 40% increase, then the chances were that he was under enough pressure to trigger Mythic Adaptation and Prodigy's Surge. Meaning that the percentages would just keep stacking.
"Hm, maybe it was too hasty in my judgement." He mumbled before moving to the next skill.
