Chapter 173: Come At Me
Come At Me
Christopher continued to sprint for a while.
Well, a.while according to his perception. After all, the faster one moved, the slower the passage of time would be to them. So it felt like it took a while, but less than a second had passed before he reached his first obstacle.
Ahead of him, there was what looked like a wide and expansive barrier that looked to be made of ice.
Christopher made a few calculations in his mind and immediately judged that the spearhead he'd created to eliminate everything in front of him would require more annihilation energy to pierce through the barrier. So he didn't bother.
Instead, he temporarily returned Scarlet to its tattoo form, and he clenched his fist and pulled it back. Combining his strength and the impossible momentum he currently carried with how quickly he was moving, Christopher threw a punch the moment he reached the barrier.
Instead of the terrible force erupting in all directions, all of it seemed to concentrate itself on the barrier. The instant his fist connected, a large portion of the barrier was covered in cracks before shattering inward, and Christopher passed through the opening.
The moment he did, he stopped being assaulted by the vile blizzard and skidded to a stop inside the new area.
When Christopher came to a stop, he turned back just in time to see the barrier preparing itself at an alarming speed, and in a few seconds, it had completely closed up.
'Interesting.' He mused before facing forward.
Now that the blizzard was gone, Christopher found himself in a large white plain, something that seemed to be a recurring theme within the hidden realm.
However, just by looking at it, Christopher knew that it wasn't so simple.
No winds were blowing faster than the speed of sound, no continuous roars of powerful beasts fighting for territory. Hell, he couldn't detect any lifeform using his sixth sense.
'Aisha, can you hear me?' Christopher asked. However, while he felt something, he couldn't hear her. Their connection was still there, but it seemed as though communication wasn't possible. Or, at the very least, he simply couldn't hear her, considering that he noticed a message trying to come through as soon as he asked his question.
With a sigh, he decided to put it out of his mind and started to walk forward. He didn't dash forward like before because he instinctively knew that such a thing wasn't a good idea. Moreover, he was curious.
He walked for a few minutes before slowing to a stop. He looked down and hummed thoughtfully. At first glance, there was no obvious difference in every white snow. But with his senses, Christopher was able to notice the invisible line in the snow. It didn't take a genius to figure out something would happen the moment he crossed the line. The question was, what would happen if he did?
Hrs shrugged, and without forcing himself to think too much about it, he crossed the line.
'Oh?' He raised a brow as he felt a sudden pressure descend on him. It wasn't enough to cause him trouble, but he noticed his weight increase.
He decided to look up and use one of his many visions. Primarily, his Runic Insight.
Immediately, he noticed an incredibly vast net of gravity runes across the white plain. They weren't just placed haphazardly either, as the way they were arranged allowed him to know that the net was simply a part of an incredibly large array.

'Ah, my persona can't wait.' He smiled behind his mask and took a step. When he did, he felt the gravity double, and then he took another step and felt the gravity double again.
'That is gonna be a pain for a LOT of people.' He noted as he kept walking at a leisurely pace. With how vast the plain was, simply walking would take him years to cross the plain. But he didn't use any of his various methods to cross the plain because he wanted to see just how much pressure his body could take before it buckled under its own weight.
What Christopher didn't know was that since his Physique passively granted him resistance against anything tied to reality, the pressure he was enduring was far less than what it should have been.
Instead of receiving double the pressure with each step, he should have been enduring ten times the pressure with each step. In the first place, this challenge wasn't expected to be passed with the physical body alone as it would be impossible for anyone at the Apex rank to complete it without using any of their abilities.
But due to how unique he was, Christopher was breaking the rules of the challenge simply by existing.

Meanwhile, back with the Genesis Corps, the first of the clans had started to reach them, and the first person to receive one of the clans was Kim and the soldiers under her.
Her stronghold, which was numbered 8, was situated at the edge of a massive cliff, which seemed to drop into nothingness.
From said nothingness, swarms of nightmarish creatures periodically climbed out to try and assault the fortress, but being able to shoot down at their enemies directly proved to be a significant advantage.
Moreover, the creatures weren't particularly strong, so taking them down wasn't difficult. The problem was their numbers. Like most of the species in this place that swarmed, they were weak individually, but a real headache when they gathered together.
Luckily, if there was one thing the fortress didn't need to worry about, it was resources, so they had been handling the creatures without too much incident these past few days.
However, the focus wasn't on that today.
Right now, Kim sat on the edge of the wall on the opposite part of the cliff, her legs dangling freely as she looked forward. Her tail swayed with a hint of anticipation, and her slitted pupils were anticipatory.
As she watched the group of slightly battered ships approach, her tail straightened before going back to swaying. She quietly put on her gauntlets and teleported off the wall.
The members of the Genesis Corps manned the weaponry on the walls and awaited a confrontation, while Kim appeared a few miles away from the wall with her arms folded.
From time to time, she'd tap the toe tip of her shoe, which suspiciously looked like a cat's paw against the ground. She looked impatient.
Eventually, the ships landed, and a cold breeze blew past.
Then, several figures exited the ships and approached Kim. Kik observed them and was a little taken aback by their appearance.
They looked kinda humanoid. Their upper bodies at least. They had no facial features, but their body structure clearly defined who was and who wasn't a female.
As for their lower bodies, they looked like miniature tornadoes that made the beings float. They were known as Djinn.
The Djinn in the lead, which had a clear Apex-rank Aura, floated forward and stopped directly in front of Kim, who had to look up at it as it was 3 meters tall.
"... You people are of the Genesis Corps?" The Djinn asked, his voice deep and gruff.
"Mhm," Kim replied simply, and a bit too cheerful for their liking.
The Djinn looked past her and towards the fortress behind her before asking.
"Who is the head of this base?" The Djinn asked, and Kim smiled.
"You're looking at her." The Djinn paused and looked back at Kim. Despite having no facial features, Kim felt like he narrowed his eyes at her.
"You? Someone who is only at the Grey rank?" His tone was skeptical, and Kim shrugged.
"Here's what will happen, I will either say something along the lines of 'So what?' Or 'Do you have a problem with that?' And you will express how you came here expecting someone stronger with how notorious we have been and express your disappointment. Then, there will be something that will force me to display my might, which will either make you fear me or respect me. A cliché setting if you ask me, and I don't have the patience to get through all that." Kim's smile turned fierce as her sharp canines became more pronounced, and her tail whipped dangerously.
"If you have any doubts, then come at me. Whether by yourself or all of you at once, I'll take all of you on. I'm tired of not having anything significant to do." All the Djinn were taken aback by Kim's straightforwardness, and some of them were wary when they recognized that she wasn't bluffing. It was common knowledge that it was almost impossible for someone who hadn't transcended to defeat someone who had, yet Kim wasn't deterred in the slightest and even urged them to come at her. Either she had the means, or she was simply insane.
The Djinn in the lead said nothing for a few seconds before ultimately nodding.
"Fine then."
