Chapter 294: Chapter 291: Senior
Tokyo, this international metropolis, has already borne too much. Yokai, demons, angels, witches... all sorts of beings that exist only in imagination reside in this city.
So, what's one more dragon from another world?
Dragons.
Powerful creatures.
Especially one named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor.
"Are you here to visit Thor?"
"Yes, Kobayashi-senpai."
"Just call me Kobayashi. No need to be so formal. Come on in."
The person who opened the door was a woman wearing glasses? The reason for the question mark was that Kobayashi-senpai's chest was as flat as a board, even flatter than Yukinoshita Yukino's plains.
Her attire was office wear, but not the kind of figure-hugging pencil skirts women usually wore. Instead, it was a shirt, tie, and pants combo, much like a man's outfit.
Androgynous.
That was the keyword for Kobayashi.
If she swapped out those large round glasses and dressed up a bit, Kobayashi-senpai would be the spitting image of a Takarazuka-style beauty!
The Takarazuka Revue, a famous Japanese theater troupe, is composed entirely of women, with even male roles played by women.
"Kobayashi-senpai, this is a small gift."
"If you're introduced by Pecorine, there's no need to be so polite."
"Kobayashi-senpai knows Pecorine?"
Why would Pecorine have a connection with Kobayashi?
They both live in the same city, sure, but Tokyo isn't Seoul—it's not that small.
"We met in the shopping district. Tohru and I were out shopping, and she was working part-time there." After a pause, Kobayashi continued, "Pecorine is a very kind child. But sometimes she's too selfless. As her friend, could you talk to her about that?"
"Has Kobayashi-senpai tried?"
Placing the purchased fruit on the table, Li Mo asked.
The silence said it all.
Li Mo: "Actually, I just met Pecorine too... but Kobayashi-senpai, Pecorine is an angel."
An angel.
The embodiment of truth, goodness, and beauty.
In myths and legends, they are always on the side of justice. Admittedly, Pecorine had a somewhat negative image when she was in heaven. But her actions since coming to Tokyo have shown her inherent kindness.
Even in difficult circumstances, she never forgets to help others.
"Sigh. Really..." Kobayashi rubbed the back of her head. She found Pecorine, whom she had only met a few times, quite a handful.
After a few seconds of contemplation, Kobayashi spoke up: "Tohru isn't home right now. She went out shopping."
"Sorry for coming unannounced."
"It's fine. I'm happy Thor has another friend. By the way, what did you need Tohru for?"
"Some questions I have." Li Mo paused, then said, "Doesn't Kobayashi-senpai find it strange when you see dragons, angels, demons, and the like walking around the streets?"
"Hmm..."
Kobayashi pinched her chin, deep in thought.
She recalled her first meeting with Tohru. That day, drunk, she wandered into the mountains outside the city and encountered Tohru in her dragon form. It all seemed normal at the time... But the next morning, when she saw Thor's true form, she felt oddly calm.
But that's normal, right?
Kobayashi: "It feels normal, but there's a subtle sense of something being off. It's like writing code that somehow runs despite having bugs, and when you try to fix those bugs, the program just breaks."
Don't say something so sad!
Li Mo had dabbled in programming. Asking someone who barely passed English Level 4 to write code wasn't a problem. He could clumsily create ugly web pages and even simple programs like calculators. Heck, he could even handle errors since the programming software would point out where the mistakes were. The real pain was when the program ran without errors, but the output was wrong. That meant his logic was flawed!
Running programs on buggy foundations seemed all too common.
Li Mo said, "That's how most legacy code is. Later developers have no idea how to fix it."
A small change could have a ripple effect, causing the entire program to crash. Code was like that.
"You know programming?"
"I self-studied a little bit."
Kobayashi silently patted Li Mo's shoulder, solemnly saying, "If you can, don't get into programming."
"I won't. Actually, I'm more curious about how Kobayashi-senpai still has so much hair!"
"I'm not even thirty yet! I won't end up like that colleague of mine with a receding hairline."
It was hard to imagine.
If a guy went bald, it was whatever. But if a girl had that kind of hairstyle... she'd probably want to die, right?
Wait, do girls even go bald?
The conversation had taken a turn. With a shared topic to discuss, the two quickly warmed up to each other, going from strangers to friends in no time.
"Ah, so that 'Jashin-chan' has such incredible regenerative abilities. No wonder Hanazono-san didn't ask me for compensation last time. When I saw Tohru burn that demon to a crisp, I thought we'd have to pay for a life."
Kobayashi recounted her and Tohru's only encounter with Jashin-chan.
It happened when they were on their way to visit Pecorine and ran into Jashin-chan, who was bullying Pecorine. Tohru immediately charged in, and the two got into a fight. Jashin-chan was promptly ground into the dirt by Tohru.
"According to Tohru at the time, 'Kobayashi, I've never met someone so hard to kill in my life.'"
"Jashin-chan's immortality is indeed strong. Maybe even God couldn't kill her."
If Li Mo remembered correctly, Pecorine's boss would later come to the human world and get seriously injured by Yurine with a single punch...
"The God from the Bible? That's too far removed from us."
"Doesn't Kobayashi-senpai have a thunder god at home?"
Tohru is actually a mispronunciation of Thor, named after the Norse god of thunder. Thanks to various media, the name had become widely known in this world.
Kobayashi waved her hand, saying, "It's just a name, just a name. By the way, Li-kun, what are humans from the 'other side' like?"
"Well... I don't know. But Hanazono Yurine is undoubtedly the strongest mage on Earth."
Jashin-chan could probably be considered a comedic character. So, as the protagonist of a comedic series, Hanazono Yurine being the strongest makes sense, right?
—Probably.
Li Mo wasn't entirely sure. Who knows what happens when multiple worldviews are mashed together?
What if a truly comedic character shows up?
"I see." Kobayashi-senpai nodded.
Then, she heard the sound of the door opening and said, "Tohru must be back."
"Mm."
Soon, Li Mo saw the person he had come to meet.
Tohru, the dragon from another world. She now looked like a blonde maid, save for her inhuman pupils, the dragon horns on her head, and her thick, powerful tail. Otherwise, it would be hard to tell she wasn't human.
However, their meeting was anything but friendly.
"What kind of monster are you?! Get away from Kobayashi right now!"
The dragon opened her mouth, energy gathering within.
It seemed like a dragon's breath was about to be unleashed.
