Chapter 225: The Tower of Heaven

— — — — — —

Both Renzo and Kagura froze for a moment when they heard what Ultear said.

Then Renzo stared at her and asked, "You're not serious… right? Master would never agree to that!"

Because of their experience with the Magic Research Institute, Ur didn't have a good opinion of official organizations anymore.

"Hehe~"

Ultear let out a mischievous laugh. "I was just saying! Just messing around! It's not like I'm really gonna do it!"

"You'd better be joking."

Renzo didn't sound convinced but still warned her, "We don't need to cozy up to the Council just to avoid a bit of trouble."

"If they really push us too far, flipping the Council on its head isn't out of the question either. You know I've got the power to back that up."

Then he turned to Kagura. "That goes for you too, little Kagura. Got it?"

"Yup yup! I'll listen to big bro Renzo!" Kagura nodded sweetly, way more obedient than the crafty Ultear.

Eventually, after circling the seas for quite a while, the trio returned to the guild hall in Magnolia.

As soon as they stepped in, they were greeted by the usual lively atmosphere.

"Yo! Renzo, Ultear, Kagura—you guys are back!"

"So? Did you find that Dragon?"

"I bet not! Even if it's a sub-dragon, it's not something you can track down that easily."

"Yeah, true!"

Macao, Wakaba, and the others waved excitedly when they saw the three return.

"You wish! Not only did we find it, Renzo took it down himself! So from now on, call him Sir Dragonslayer!" Ultear announced proudly, hands on her hips, acting like she was the one who killed the dragon.

"Whaaaaat!?"

The whole guild hall erupted in shock.

And then, everyone rushed over at once.

"For real!?"

"You really slayed a dragon?!"

"What did it look like?!"

"What kind of dragon was it?"

"How strong was it?"

"Where's the body? Don't tell me you tossed it!"

"Idiot! Of course not! Renzo wouldn't waste a dragon corpse—he needs it to study dragon blood!"

"Oh yeah, true!"

"Come on, show us already, Renzo!"

In seconds, the trio was surrounded so tightly there wasn't even room to breathe.

Renzo let out a helpless sigh. Kagura, feeling overwhelmed by all the strangers, quickly hid behind him and clung to him like a koala.

Ultear, on the other hand, summoned an ice wall right in front of her to keep the crowd at bay.

"Man, I'll never get used to how enthusiastic this guild is…" she muttered, clearly exasperated.

After a while, the commotion finally settled down, and Renzo made his way to the bar.

...

"You're back. Not hurt, I hope?" both Makarov and Ur asked at the same time.

"Of course not," Renzo replied with a grin. "That dragon couldn't even scratch me."

"As expected."

Makarov nodded. Renzo was really strong. He still couldn't wrap his head around how someone so young had reached such an absurd level of strength. Calling it talent didn't even begin to cover it.

"Ur-sensei, any news on Brain?"

Renzo switched topics, looking at Ur seriously.

Earlier, he'd located several suspected dark guild hideouts using a magic satellite and passed the info to Ur. She had been obsessively hunting for Brain, determined to make that bastard suffer for what he did to Ultear.

Just thinking about the inhumane experiments her daughter had endured made Ur burn with rage.

"No leads yet," she said, shaking her head in disappointment. "Brain's incredibly cautious—leaves almost no trace behind. The guys from the suspected guilds haven't seen him in over a year."

"I planted the nanomagic bugs you gave me at their bases. With any luck, we'll get something eventually."

Then Ur asked, "What about you? The one you hunted down—it was an Ice Sub-Dragon, right? Was it strong enough to meet your research needs?"

Renzo nodded. "Yeah, it was an Ice Sub-Dragon. Offensively, it was about average—maybe on par with a Ten Wizard Saint. But its defense was insane."

"As for research, the material should last me a while."

"With it, I should be able to produce a batch of Ice Dragon-enhancement Serum. It'll be a huge help for you, Gray, Lyon, and Ultear too."

Of course, he didn't slay a dragon just for Hermione's bloodline experiments—he also wanted to help Ur and the others get stronger.

They were still too weak.

"Oh? Now I'm starting to get excited," Ur said with a graceful smile.

"Dragon-enhancement Serum, huh? You've really got your hands in everything, don't you, kid?" Makarov chuckled, raising his drink. "Once you've got it working, make sure I get a look too."

"No problem," Renzo replied without hesitation.

"Hmph~"

Just then, Mirajane Strauss walked over, visibly annoyed. She glared at Renzo and huffed, "You went out dragon hunting—why didn't you take me with you?!"

Ever since Renzo's clone saved her and brought her and her siblings back to the guild, she'd held a unique kind of gratitude toward him. So this time, being left behind clearly didn't sit well with her.

"You were still working on controlling your magic better, weren't you?" Renzo said, shaking his head with a grin. "You really want to draw attention again just because you lost control?"

This girl… she was seriously fiery. He couldn't tell if it was just her nature or the influence of her Satan Soul.

"Hmph!" Mirajane pouted. "I don't care! Next time, I'm going with you!"

"Yeah, yeah," Renzo replied, not bothering to argue. She was still in her 'spiky' phase—hopefully she'd mellow out over time.

---

Over the next month, Renzo spent most of his time holed up in his lab, analyzing and purifying the mixed blood of the Ice Sub-Dragon.

He'd also harvested a crystal from the corpse, which piqued his interest. He created two shadow clones to help dissect and study it, hoping to uncover the secrets of ancient dragon magic hidden inside.

And maybe—just maybe—he could convert that knowledge into Ice-based Dragon Slayer Magic.

Then one day, the Red Queen's voice echoed in the lab, accompanied by a holographic projection.

"Master, after months of scanning and narrowing things down, I've successfully pinpointed a region in the sea. Based on the data, there's a high chance that this is where the Tower of Heaven is located!"

"Oh?" Renzo paused what he was doing and looked up. His brow arched. "You finally found it? Took long enough. Guess I really do need to brush up on my knowledge of magic barriers and enchantment-based detection magic… maybe even upgrade the magic satellite while I'm at it."

The search had been ongoing for months now—way too slow for his taste.

"There's a 70% probability it's the Tower," Red Queen said. "All my findings are based on the parameters you gave me. Of course, I also recommend you improve your Magic knowledge—it would massively boost both my processing power and the satellite's detection capabilities."

"Alright. Keep monitoring things from your side. Send me the coordinates—I'm heading out now."

With that, Renzo stopped what he was doing, gave Red Queen a quick nod, and in the blink of an eye, vanished from the underground lab, teleporting toward the location she had found.

Meanwhile, in the top floor of the Tower of Heaven...

"Lord Brain! We've captured the escapee!" a few dark mages reported, shoving forward a girl with fiery red hair.

She glared defiantly at them, her eyes full of fire.

This tall man they addressed—none other than Brain, the man Renzo and Ultear had been hunting for so long—smiled at the sight.

Ironically, without Ultear in the picture, Brain had arrived at the tower earlier than he had in the original storyline… and now, it looked like he was playing her role in these events instead.

"Heh… well done. Leave her here and get out," Brain said with a wave of his hand, dismissing the dark mages.

"Yes, sir!"

Once they were gone, Brain looked down at the redhead with interest, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

"Didn't expect it to be a little girl who tried to escape," he mused aloud. "But you've got guts… and a soul that practically shines."

"So? What do you say?" His voice grew smooth, almost persuasive. "Why don't you join me? I can get you out of here. No more running, no more hiding."

He wasn't just here to carry out Hades' orders. His true goal was to scout talent—real talent—for the true Oración Seis.

Those useless thugs from the smaller guilds? They wouldn't cut it. His ambitions were far bigger than that.

And so were Zero's.

Only by creating a powerful Oración Seis could he ever hope to stand equal to Hades—not just as a pawn, but as a rival.

Even now, just thinking about Hades made Brain feel like his bones ached. He could still remember the pain from the last time they crossed paths.
