Chapter 48: Chapter 48 - Journey to the Babel Tower
Chloe held her chin thoughtfully for a moment.
Then—
Under Raven Eltharion's stunned gaze…
She suddenly spun around, pressed her butt against his, and gave a playful little wiggle.
Her slender black cat tail swayed cheerfully as she blinked up at him with a teasing grin.
"Hey, boy—nya~ Can I touch your butt—nya~?"
"Of course—nya~ You can touch mine too—nya~!"
Raven was dumbfounded.
Seriously?
Was this catgirl always this bold?
Chloe Lolo, known as [Black Cat], was a Level 4 adventurer and a cat-person beastkin.
Nominally part of the Njord Familia, she was eighteen years old, with jet-black hair and vivid green eyes.
Energetic and impulsive, Chloe had a habit of gambling both with valis and with her life.
She had a strange obsession: she liked grabbing handsome boys' butts. A lot.
In the past, she'd been a top-tier assassin in a criminal organization—
Her success rate was nearly perfect.
She even once assassinated a second-tier adventurer.
She had accepted a mission to assassinate Shakti Varma—the [Ivory Staff]—
But almost got herself killed in return.
Two years ago—
At just sixteen, she and her partner [Black Fist] Lunoire took a job to eliminate [Gale] Ryuu Lion.
During the battle, they were intercepted by Arnya and witnessed Mama Mia's overwhelming power firsthand.
The resulting damage to the tavern left them saddled with a 100 million valis debt.
Since then, they had no choice but to work at the Hostess of Fertility to pay it off.
—
"You're being rude again, Chloe!" Syr scolded her sharply, tugging her back by the collar.
"Ughhh~" Arnya made a face. "Even in heat, you don't go that far—nya~"
"Exactly," Lunoire sighed. "You're embarrassing us again."
Lunoire Faust, the [Black Fist], was a nineteen-year-old human adventurer and also Level 4.
She belonged to the Demeter Familia, though only on paper.
She looked calm and composed, her clothes neat and elegant. But her strength was anything but gentle.
She had once rivaled Ryuu Lion in combat power—slower, yes, but more brutal.
Like Chloe, her past was shady. A former bounty hunter, her success rate was almost perfect.
She once took on a contract to assassinate someone from the Freya Familia—
And was nearly killed by the [Four Flame Warriors] during her escape.
After the failed assassination of Ryuu and the wrath of Mama Mia, she now worked in the tavern to repay her debt.
—
Raven didn't dwell on their antics.
Instead, his eyes drifted toward the green-haired elf in the background—
Ryuu Lion, known as [Gale].
A calm, mysterious elf with powerful combat skills. Currently Level 4.
She possessed a rare technique: parallel chanting—
Allowing her to fight, move, dodge, and chant spells all at once.
Even [Nine Sage Princess] Riveria had once acknowledged her refined control.
She wore the same green uniform as the others, topped with a white lace headband.
Her almond-shaped blue eyes were like calm, endless skies, and her delicate face almost ethereal.
Her elven ears peeked from under her pale green hair.
Simply watching her gave Raven a sense of peace.
Yet—
Her gaze was cold, detached. Like an ice princess untouched by the world.
But if she smiled… even faintly… it would be like spring breaking through the snow.
—
After observing her quietly, Raven was confident—
Ryuu would be the first to join his Familia.
But that would come later.
Right now, he had more pressing matters—like exploring the Dungeon.
"Thanks for the bento, Miss Syr. I'll be heading out now," Raven said.
He waved casually. "See you tonight."
"Good luck, Mister Raven!" Syr's voice rang out, sweet and warm.
Wearing her navy work uniform and white apron, Mia Grand crossed her burly arms and grunted:
"Don't go dying out there, kid. Syr's got high hopes for you."
Mia Grand, a proud dwarf with an intimidating presence.
Formerly Level 6, once known as the [Little Giant], and the ex-captain of the Freya Familia.
—
After Raven disappeared into the crowd—
Syr turned to Ryuu and whispered, "What do you think of him?"
Ryuu paused briefly before replying, "Unusual… When he looked at me just now, I didn't feel… disgusted."
Syr smiled faintly. "Isn't that kind of amazing?"
"Back to work, you silly girls!" Mia bellowed. "Chop-chop!"
—
On the way to Babel Tower, Raven stopped by a general store.
He bought a few bottles of water and some emergency rations.
Just in case.
They could all be tossed into his Virtual Inventory, so weight wasn't an issue.
