Chapter 6: More Curiosities
Things continued on that night in Wartwood. In spite of the fight earlier, everyone did their best to keep their cool, with Luz determined to make peace with Sasha after her chat with Marcy.
Unfortunately Grime's Lieutenant was not in a talking mood at the moment, she did not want to see anyone, she simply choose to wait in the corner of the house until it was time for her to leave.
Anne wasn't having that, she took that moment to approach Sasha, hoping to do so gently as to not further agitate her. "Hey Sash..."
"What is it?" Sasha harshly replied.
Anne knew she was still upset, so she had to tread extra lightly here, "Look, a moment ago, when you and Luz were arguing. I hope you know that I still consider you one of my friends."
"Do you now?" Sasha asked. "Didn't seem like it."
"I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea, but this whole dinner was to not only help the two of us make peace and move on from what happened at Toad Tower, it was also to officially welcome Luz into our friend group," Anne said. "Look, being trapped in another world is terrifying, we both went through it. Luz has gone through it twice, she needs friends more than ever and I want her to feel included."
"I'm fine with that Anne, I don't mind you making a new friend," Sasha said. "What I don't like is her attitude, how she behaves like she's known us forever. Like she's been judgmental of me since we met, she barely even gave me a chance."
Anne shamefully nodded her head, "I know, maybe it's my fault, I said some things and well..."
"Wait, were you bad mouthing me?" Sasha asked. "Is that why your witch friend doesn't trust me!?"
"I didn't bad mouth you, or at least I didn't try to," Anne said. "Look, I told Luz you were really nice, and that while we did have a fight, I still valued our friendship. Unfortunately, you built a pretty bad reputation in town."
"Bad reputation huh? I'm willing to bet your frog family helped slander my character too," Sasha said. "Especially after tonight."
"Sasha, I'm sorry you felt that way, but like I told you before, you did try to kill them," Anne said. "Regardless of how many times you've tried, it's still a very bad thing to do. It's gonna take time for them to trust you, and now that you made a really bad impression on Luz, she's gonna need time too."
Sasha groaned in annoyance, while this situation was frustrating and she really could not care less about the Plantars or Luz, she still needed to gain their trust if her plan with Grime was going to work. "Just tell me what I can do to make things easier."
"Be patient, accept that they need time to trust you," Anne said. "Trust is not built overnight, but if you really put your mind into it, then it will come up strong. I know you can pull this off, be the cool girl I know you've always been."
Sasha shrugged in defeat, "Look, I'll give it my best, but I can't promise that I'll change much. I mean, I like who I am. You can understand that, can't you?"
"Well, yeah," Anne admitted. "I won't ask too much of you, I just want you to do your best."
Sasha chuckled to herself, "It's funny, you used to be this shy little girl who always needed me to protect her. What happened to that Anne?"
"She hasn't left, she just doesn't need as much protecting," Anne explained.
"I guess you don't," Sasha said. "Kind of proud of you actually, you've really learned how to stand up for what you believe in."
"Well, I had a good role model," Anne said, glancing right at Sasha, the girl understanding who she meant of course.
"Aw, how can I not hug you after that?" Sasha said, pulling her friend in for an embrace.
It wasn't long before Luz came back inside, still thinking over her little talk with Marcy. As promised, she was ready to make peace with Sasha. As she looked inside, she could see that both Anne and Sasha were embraced in a hug.
"Did I miss something?" Luz asked.
"They reconciled," King said, sitting beside the Plantar kids. "Sprig, Polly and I were keeping an eye out just in case a fight broke out, but then they started having this deep conversation, and it got really emotional, especially for Sprig."
"It's not that emotional," Sprig said, wiping tears from his eyes.
"Pfft, who are you kidding?" Polly teased.
"Well, time for my turn," Luz said. "Wish me luck."
"You got this, Anne already softened her up for you," King said.
Luz made her way over to the hugging teens, Sasha being the first to notice the witch girl's presence, "Luz..."
"Hey, Sasha..." Luz awkwardly replied.
Anne took notice as well as the two broke their hug, "Oh Luz, um, do you need a minute with Sasha?"
"If you don't mind," Luz said.
"I'll be not too far away," Anne said, stepping away.
"So...need something from me?" Sasha asked.
"Sort of," Luz said. "Look, I'm sorry about before. I know it isn't much of my business what happened between you, Anne and The Plantars. There's a lot you all need to work out. But part of fixing mistakes is acknowledging them, I know the Plantars were being a bit rude, but that doesn't make it ok to flip out the way you did. Next time something's bothering you, just let someone know, if you truly believe Anne and Marcy are your friends, they'll understand and try to make things better."
"Yeah, alright, I'll try not to lose control," Sasha said. "But it's like I just told Anne, I really don't want to really change how I am, that's something Anne is completely fine with. I like me, and I don't think there's anything wrong with how I do things."
"Hey I can't make you change, if you want to stay like this, be my guest," Luz said. "But, if this makes things worse between you and Anne, don't say I didn't warn you."
"This won't, because unlike you, I actually know Anne," Sasha said. "When you've had the adventures we have had, then you could say something, but right now, you're the new girl, so I would appreciate it if you didn't walk around like you and Anne are besties."
Luz grumbled in annoyance, even now Sasha was being a pain, but out of respect for Anne and Marcy, she wanted to try a bit harder. "I'll give you this, you and Anne have been friends longer, and I can't change that. But, Anne's my friend now, and I care about her, so I am going to stick by her side. If I were you, I'd get used to the sight of me."
"Hey I can tolerate you for a little bit longer," Sasha said. "Once we get this box working, me and my friends go back home and you go back to your witch place. Then we won't ever see you again."
"You're not getting rid of me that easily," Luz said. "Also, don't forget what I told you before, if you upset Anne in any way, or Marcy for that matter, well you saw what I did to that cage of Hornets."
Sasha of course remembered the incredible magic Luz performed. Truthfully that display of power did shake Sasha up a bit, knowing that if Luz wanted to, she could direct that at her. Though she had doubts Luz would actually do such a thing, it wasn't exactly something she wanted to chance.
"For the sake of Anne and Marcy, I think it's best if we limit our interactions with each other as much as possible," Sasha suggested.
"Something we can both agree on," Luz said.
"Well, since the dinner is over, I should head back with Grime," Sasha said.
"Sounds good to me," Luz said as Sasha made her way to the door, neither girl taking their eye off one another.
"Well, despite the awkwardness, this was actually a really good dinner," King said. "Too bad there was no dessert."
"There was," Grime said. "But your little witch friend ruined it when she blew up my Vol-Cake-No."
"I'm sorry about that Mr. Grime," Luz said.
"Please, call me General Grime," the toad casually explained. "And its fine, mistakes happen. Plus, I can always get another one."
"Is it any good?" Polly asked.
"Oh it's delicious and exciting," Grime said, pumping his fist up. "The perfect dessert to form true comradery!"
"Uh...sounds great, I guess," Luz replied, not sure what to make of this.
"Why do I get the feeling we just got super lucky tonight?" Polly asked.
"Well anyway General, it's been nice getting to formally meet you," Luz said.
"The pleasure is all mine, I gotta say, I admire your warrior spirit, and your refusal to back down," Grime said. "It's a shame you and Sasha are having difficulties at the moment, but I believe that things will work out in due time."
"Hopefully," Luz said.
"Grime, let's go!" Sasha ordered.
"Coming, Sasha!" Grime said, then turned his full attention to the entire room. "I bid you all a good evening."
"Yes, good evening," Hop Pop said as everyone else waved good-bye, some more awkward than others. "Well that could have gone better."
"Got that right," King said. "Really thought there was gonna be a fight."
"Luz would have won," Polly said. "I mean Sasha couldn't even beat Anne."
"Uh, what's that supposed to mean?" Anne asked.
"I don't mean anything by it, you're tough, but you don't know magic," Polly said. "Luz does, so that makes her the strongest."
"Everyone has different skills, I'm willing to bet Anne can use a sword way better than I'm able to," Luz said.
"You two would make better teammates though," Sprig said. "Team Luzanne!"
"Wow, that actually sounds pretty cool," King said, then heard the door open to reveal Marcy. "Your other friend's back."
"Hey Mar-Mar, you were out there for quite a bit," Anne said.
"I was checking on Joe Sparrow," Marcy said. "Anyway, I thought about heading back to Newtopia."
"Now? It's late," Anne said.
"I know, but I do want to help King Andrias make accommodations for Luz, King and Eda," Marcy said.
"Wait, does King Andrias even know about them?" Sprig asked.
"I sent a letter last night, should have reached him by now," Marcy explained. "He should know about them. I just want to be sure."
"You can do that tomorrow Marcy," Hop Pop said. "Right now, it's pretty late, I don't think it's safe for you to travel."
"Yeah, the king can wait," Eda said.
"Well, I guess you're right," Marcy said. "Anyway, how did things go with Sasha? When I saw her outside, she still looked kind of mad."
"I managed to calm her down a bit," Anne said.
"Then I managed to make her mad, even though I did my best to be reasonable," Luz said. "I just don't get it, at least back when Amity was mean she was a little bit reasonable. At this point, Sasha is just becoming as much of a pain as Boscha, maybe worse."
"Who's Boscha?" Anne asked.
"A mean girl back at the Boiling Isles, she's not too much of a problem but she was definitely a pain to deal with," Luz said. "She specializes in potions if I remember correctly."
"Oh, sounds fun," Marcy said. "Kind of like Maddie."
"Maddie would do well in the Potions Track," Luz believed.
"Well moving on, I don't know this Amity girl, so it's hard for me to compare, but whatever you did with her probably won't work on Sasha," Anne said. "Maybe Amity's just more willing to open up about her emotions."
"Sometimes, I mean she used to keep a lot of stuff in her diary..." Luz looked shamefully to the side. "That I accidentally read once."
"You read another girl's diary!?" Marcy shouted in disbelief.
"I know, terrible thing to do, but her brother and sister got in my head and...well let's just say I'm glad she ended up forgiving me for that," Luz said. "At least it helped me see a different side to her, I mean I already got that after a magic duel, but this was just a bit extra."
"A magic duel? Did you win?" Macy asked.
"We both got disqualified for cheating," Luz said.
"Which I take responsibility for," Eda said. "I had to even the playing field to keep Luz safe, Amity was really out for her blood."
"Then you found out she cheated?" Sprig asked.
"Well she didn't know, my sister, who was her teacher at the time, cheated for her, because she knew that I would cheat," Eda said. "I'm not even mad that she knew, I was happier that perfect Lilith proved not to be so perfect, in front of an entire audience too."
"Wait, so you hate your sister or something?" Marcy asked.
"Oh no, we made up, but still, I felt so vindicated," Eda said.
"I wonder how Amity's doing right now," Luz said, remembering the girl she had grown so fond of, including the kiss to the cheek she received a few nights ago. Just the mere thought turned her face red.
"Luz, you alright there?" Polly asked. "You look like you're burning up."
"Huh!?" Luz checked her face. "Oh, it's nothing, guess I just felt hot for some reason."
"Maybe you can tell us a bit more about your friends back in the Boiling Isles," Marcy said. "You alluded to a couple outside."
"Oh yeah, Willow and Gus," Luz said. "Willow specializes in Plant Magic, Gus is an Illusionist, they're both super talented, just like Amity."
"You're really fond of this Amity girl, is she your best friend on that Island?" Sprig asked.
"Yeah, you can say that," Luz said, blushing a bit.
"Uh, your face is red again," Polly said.
"Dang it...uh, any chance I can get some ice?" Luz nervously asked.
Back in Mewni, both Marco and Amity waited in Star's room, the former staring at his scissors while the latter peeked into Star's book.
"There's a lot of Mewman History in these pages," Amity said. "Star won't mind me looking a bit right?"
"Uh-huh..." Marco replied, almost as if he wasn't listening.
"Uh, Marco?" Amity said, snapping the boy out of it.
"Sorry, what were you saying?" Marco asked.
"What's with you? I mean you've been staring at those scissors for a long time, are you gonna use them to go somewhere?" Amity asked.
"I kind of want to, but...it might be risky," Marco said.
"Risky how?" Amity asked. "What's on your mind?"
"Buff Frog mentioned a place called 'Amphibia', that he might just end up going there," Marco said.
"What about it?" Amity asked. "Do you want to go?"
"Well, I thought maybe I can check it out, see if it's really a good place for him to go," Marco said. "Of course, part of me hopes it's a rotten place so he could change his mind about leaving."
"Even if you do that, he might just go to another realm," Amity said. "Look, it sucks that he feels he needs to leave because everyone here can't see him for what he's worth, but we really should respect his decision. I mean he mentioned kids right? He has to think about them too."
"I guess..." Marco said. Moments later they were joined by a disappointed Princess. "Hey Star, is everything alright?"
"No, it's not!" Star said. "Guess what we found out at the trial!? Take one guess!"
Marco rubbed his chin, "Uh, did Eclipsa-"
"That rotten Magic High Commission lied to my family for GENERATIONS!" Star shouted.
Marco looked a little freaked out by the outburst, but came to his senses, "Uh, wait, they lied?"
"Start from the beginning, what happened?" Amity asked.
"Well for starters, we found out a lot of interesting things from Eclipsa," Star said. "For starters, she isn't even my actual ancestor."
"Huh? What does that mean?" Marco asked.
"According to the Mewman Family History, Queen Festivia was the successor to Queen Eclipsa, so naturally many believed her to be Eclipsa's daughter," Star said. "But, that's a lie. Eclipsa's actual daughter was traded away in favor of Festivia."
"Her daughter got traded away?" Amity asked. "What for?"
"Well, Eclipsa ditched her husband to run off with another man, and in doing so, she had his baby," Star explained. "I mean, my mom already knew before when she asked Eclipsa about her daughter, the Trial was mostly to get the Commission to fess up. The truth is, Eclipsa never loved the husband she was married to, she preferred her secret lover, which was a monster."
"A monster?" Amity asked.
"Yes, she fell in love with a monster and they had a baby together, they named her Meteora" Star said. "But, the Magic High Commission didn't want a baby with monster DNA to be Queen of Mewni, so they traded her daughter away for a peasant girl, crystalized Eclipsa and her monster lover and raised Festivia to be the new Queen of Mewni."
Marco was amazed by what he heard, rumors being confirmed and new details coming to light, "That's some pretty messed up stuff. I mean, trading Eclipsa's daughter away?"
"Yeah, what gives!?" Amity asked. "How terrible can this Commission be!? Like are they that afraid of monsters or something? I mean isn't your boyfriend a demon? Are they gonna take your baby away too if you ever get married?"
"That's one reason I was so upset," Star admitted, feeling enraged. "What happened to Eclipsa wasn't fair, it just makes me so angry. They barely even considered her side of the story, they went in fully ready to mark her as evil. I mean, I shouldn't even be heir to Mewni, if not for that trade, I'd be another commoner! Eclipsa's daughter should have been queen, it should be her bloodline, not mine." Star wiped a tear from her eye. "This...this is just terrible. I'm just so ashamed right now.
"Star, you know none of this is your fault, right?" Amity asked.
"Yeah, it's not like you had any control over what happened," Marco said. "The fault lies with the Commission."
"You've mentioned that they've been around for a long time right?" Amity asked.
"Pretty much as long as Mewni has," Star said. "They served all my past grandmas."
"How involved have they been?" Amity asked.
"Too involved apparently," Star said. "I mean, I've never liked them much, except Lekmet, but he's dead, as is my faith in the Commission. I don't know how my mom's been able to trust them for so many years, and now with this knowledge about Festivia not being Eclipsa's daughter, I just don't know what to do."
Marco and Amity were both at a loss for words, neither knowing what to do or say at the moment. This was a bit worse for Marco since Star was his best friend and he needed to do something to cheer her up, but this was beyond what he could think of. Amity was even worse off given how little she knew about everything going on.
"Star, I know this is a lot to take in, and you probably need a lot of time to process this," Marco said. "I just want you to know that, no matter what happens, I'm here for you, and we'll figure out the best solution to this problem."
"I appreciate that," Star said. "What would help is if we could find out what happened to Eclipsa's daughter, at least make peace with that big mistake."
"Sure, we'll do that," Marco said.
"I'll help however I can," Amity offered. "I mean, I'm still learning about all this, there's a lot to learn about your family history."
"You can read about it in my...oh wait you have it already," Star said, gesturing to the Book of Spells.
"I got curious, sorry," Amity said. "There's a lot of cool stuff in here though."
"I don't mind, Janna peeks inside it too, and as long as Marco's here then it's all good," Star said. "Just be careful with it, that book's been in my family for...actually, I can't even say that my family's had it, can I?"
"Your mom used it, and so did your grandma," Marco said. "It still counts."
"Well here, maybe something in this book can help you," Amity said. "Maybe Eclipsa left something in here, or Festivia, or whoever."
"Maybe Glossaryck himself left a clue," Marco said.
"I doubt it, according to my mom, even the Royal Archive has no record of Eclipsa's daughter, anything related to her was replaced by Festivia," Star said. "My mom thinks her daughter's alive though, we're gonna go off that."
"Huh? How can she be alive?" Amity asked. "Like, didn't she live hundreds of years ago?"
"I trust my mom, to an extent," Star said. "I just really need time to think this over."
"Take all the time you need," Marco said.
Amity presented Star with her book, "I know you said that clues aren't likely to be in here, but maybe if you read the book over again with this new hindsight, you might discover something."
"Worth a try," Star said, taking the book. "And don't think we've forgotten about you or Lilith, or this whole Boiling Isles situation with that Belos guy."
"Right, that's just gonna be another headache," Amity said.
"We're good at multitasking," Star said. "How about you though? Have you figured out where your friend might be?"
"Not a clue," Amity said, the girl felt saddened. "I don't know why I'm so worried about her, she should be safe in the Human Realm but...I just have this weird nagging feeling. I mean what if Belos finds his way to that realm somehow and I have no way to protect Luz?"
"Doesn't magic from your realm not work on Earth?" Marco asked. "What can this guy do anyway?"
"A trained witch can use magic in any realm, Belos wouldn't be trying to go to the humans if he didn't think he could use his power," Amity said. "Then again, he might be planning something much worse too, that's why I'm so worried."
"I hope we can keep your friend safe," Star said. "With help from The Magic High Commission. I know they're not too trustworthy but in a situation like this we can't afford to be picky with our allies. Knowing them, they're bent on finding this realm of yours as well."
"If they do, they're not gonna do anything bad, are they?" Amity asked.
"No, I don't think they will," Star said. "There's a difference between them keeping monsters out of Mewni and straight up Invasion. Uh, not that you're monsters, but-"
"Yeah, Marco said something similar," Amity said. "I don't think we're monsters but they might still consider witches a threat, I don't want them going too far and assuming everyone in my realm is a danger to Mewni."
"That won't happen, and to be sure it won't happen, I'll run this by my mom," Star said. "She's still Queen and she does have more tolerance than the Commission."
"Maybe we can get them to lighten up a bit," Marco said. "I mean, I can talk things out with Hekapoo, and you can probably explain this better to Rhombulus. That just leaves Omnitrax Prime."
"Maybe Janna can help with that," Star said.
"Is Janna even good at social skills?" Amity asked.
"Where is she anyway?" Marco asked.
"Over here," Janna said, reading a magazine at the corner of the room. "I've been here the whole time."
"Seriously, what the heck Janna!? Marco shouted. "What is it with you and being so weird!?"
"I don't know, what is it with you and being such a girl, sometimes literally," Janna said.
"Literally?" Amity asked.
"I had to make some odd choices before," Marco said. "But I did it for the greater good, so I have no shame."
"Whatever floats your boat dude," Janna said.
"Still, why are you here exactly?" Amity asked.
"Someone's unfriendly, I'm just here to make sure you two stay on your best behavior, and catch you if you randomly start making out," Janna said.
"Wow, really?" Marco said, Amity's face turning red from the annoyance. "I've been alone with girls before, when have I started making out with them at random?"
"Hey I'm not saying it's a bad thing, honestly I'm just surprised you haven't tried winning her over," Janna said. "How often does a cute girl tolerate your presence?"
"You do remember that I dated Jackie, don't you?" Marco asked.
"And how did that turn out?" Janna replied.
"Our break-up, was mutual!" Marco shouted in frustration.
"Janna, come on, you know that's a sore spot for Marco, he really feels like he failed in his relationship," Star said.
"I didn't...oh forget it," Marco said.
"Look Marco, I like you, I just gotta be straight with you, call it tough love," Janna said. "And for you, Purple Hair-"
"My name's Amity," the witch corrected.
"Right, Amity, just some friendly advice, you may need to make the first move with Marco, it took him forever to ask out Jackie Lynn-Thomas," Janna said.
"Thanks, but I'm good as far as dating goes," Amity said. "Not that it's any of your business."
"Yeah, sure, anyway Star, you seem pretty down, so why don't the two of us go out and enjoy ourselves a bit, take your mind off the troubles," Janna said. "We'll call over Kelly and Pony Head, make it a girl's night out."
"A girl's night out?" Star asked.
"Yeah, it should be fun, we can even invite Amity and Marco with us," Janna said.
"How can it be a girl's night out if...HEY!" Marco shouted.
"You are way too easy sometimes, that's why I like you Marco Diaz," Janna said. "Anyway, what do you say Star?"
"Well, I could use a distraction, maybe for a little bit," Star said, then turned to her friends. "Uh, any chance..."
"I'm good, as for Marco, I don't think HE wants to go either," Amity said, stressing the pronoun.
"Someone's protective, that's actually kind of cute though," Janna said. "But for real, I'll back off. No hard feelings there Marco, you're still almost cool in my book."
"Uh...thanks?" Marco said.
"Peace out," Janna said, leading Star out of the room.
"I don't know who's worse," Amity said. "Hekapoo or Janna, both of them are so annoying!"
"Janna's not so bad, she's just...well okay she can be a total pain in the neck," Marco said. "Hekapoo's actually pretty chill once you get to know her. She's actually a good friend of mine, and I think you two can be friends too."
"Yeah, sure..." Amity said.
"Anyway, I hope Janna didn't make you too uncomfortable with that, kissy stuff," Marco said.
"I'm fine, I'm just more worried about you," Amity said. "I don't want her thinking that I find you unattractive or anything."
"It's alright if you do, everyone has a type," Marco said.
"Look, objectively speaking, you're a cute boy," Amity said. "I...just don't prefer boys, do you understand?"
"Uh..." Marco took a second to think it over. "Oh! Yeah I get it. Like say, if it were between me and Star, you'd go for Star."
"Yeah, pretty much," Amity said. "Not that I would, she has a boyfriend after all, and I wouldn't get in the middle of that. I will admit, she is pretty cute."
"Yeah, she is..." Marco said, trailing off in thought.
"Uh...Marco?" Amity said, snapping him out of it.
"Sorry, what were we saying?" Marco asked.
Amity had a fleeting thought but brushed it off, figuring it wasn't important right now, "Anyway at least you know it's not you."
"Oh yeah, you're good, don't worry about it," Marco said. "So...do you have anyone that you like?"
"Well, yeah, it's the girl we've been trying to pinpoint," Amity confessed.
"Wait, is that why you're worried?" Marco asked. "Is she your girlfriend?"
"No, I mean, not yet," Amity said. "Last thing I did was kiss her on the cheek, then I ran inside my house out of embarrassment. I wanted to talk to her about what we might be feeling, but honestly I kept getting cold feet and, it's just so...It's really frustrating."
"I get how frustrating love can be, I mean I've had crushes, some more one sided than others," Marco admitted. "And like Janna alluded to, my last relationship didn't go so well. We did mutually break up, but part of me feels like she broke up because she thought I was in love with Star."
"Are you?" Amity asked.
Marco shook his head, "Like we established before, she has a boyfriend, so I can't be in love with her."
"I mean, just because she's taken doesn't mean the attraction isn't there," Amity said. "It's just a bit more awkward."
"Well I would never move in on Star, plus I'm kind of friends with her boyfriend, that'd make me pretty scummy if I did," Marco said. "Love's just so confusing sometimes, like I do like Star but I know I shouldn't think of her that way."
"Does Star know by any chance?" Amity asked.
"No...I don't think she does at least..." Marco said. "Ugh, see that's the thing, I feel like Star probably does like me. No, she did because she confessed it to me once, and she was so ashamed that she left the Human Realm just to come back here. Then I slowly developed feelings for her but now she has Tom, or she had Tom, I think they were on-again, off-again, currently on right now. I just really hate this feeling, and I wish it would go away."
Amity couldn't help but stare a bit in disbelief, then slowly started chuckling to herself, much to Marco's confusion.
"What's so funny?"
"Sorry, I don't mean to laugh," Amity said. "It's just...I thought I had it bad, but you seem to be in a worse position than me. My crush is single, yours isn't. I just feel so silly for worrying about what should be an easier situation for me."
"Yeah, I suppose you do have it easier," Marco said. "If you see that girl, my advice, say something before you lose her."
"Yeah, I will," Amity said. "And I'll try to help you out, maybe you can come back with me to the Boiling Isles, there's lots of cute girls there. I know a girl named Willow who's really sweet. Oh and there's Boscha...actually no, you won't like her much."
"Is she mean?" Marco asked.
"Kind of, also she has three eyes, not sure if that's a deterrent for you," Amity said.
"Oh no, I would never judge someone by appearance," Marco said. "I mean, I may draw the line somewhere, is this girl even human looking?"
"Yeah, she just has a third eye on her forehead," Amity said. "But like I said, she's kind of mean and I don't think she likes humans. I also have a sister, but she's a bit older, and she's a bit condescending herself. But there's gotta be someone out there for you somewhere. Be it Earth, The Boiling Isles, here in Mewni..."
"Amphibia..." Marco said, almost absent-mindedly. "Oh wait, there's probably frog people there."
"Oh right, that Buff Frog guy mentioned Amphibia," Amity said. "He wanted to move there."
"I still say he should stay at the castle here, it's a great place to work, and not everyone here is discriminatory against monsters," Marco said. "I don't think so at least."
"Well maybe it'll be good for him, maybe Amphibia has a Royal Castle he can work at," Amity said.
"Uh sure, just for a few minutes," Marco said as he and Amity stepped through, finding themselves on the top ledge of the city. The portal was closed again, Marco not wanting to risk any creature from this world to wind up in Mewni and vice versa.
"Royal Castle in Amphibia huh? Wonder how different it would be from here?" Marco said, then remembered he had the scissors. "Wait a minute."
"What is it?" Amity saw Marco take out the scissors. "What are you planning?"
"I'm kind of curious, I hope this works though," Marco said. Imagining Amphibia and a castle, he tore open the fabric, wondering if it was enough to make a proper dimension.
Amity looked on and just before her was a portal that lead in to another world, "Is that a...castle?"
Marco peeked inside, seeing the castle at the center of the crown city, Newtopia. "Wow..."
"That actually looks really nice," Amity said, taking a quick scan of her surroundings. "Should we...check this portal out?"
"Uh sure, just for a few minutes," Marco said as he and Amity stepped through, finding themselves on the top ledge of the city. The portal was closed again, Marco not wanting to risk any creature from this world to wind up in Mewni and vice versa. As he closed it, he saw that there was a large body of water on the outside. "Uh, is this the middle of the ocean?"
"No, I can see land in the distance," Amity said as she looked ahead. She then took another look around the city, marveling at the architecture. "This place looks really nice in the evening."
"Yeah, totally," Marco said. "Strange though, the buildings almost look like giant mushrooms."
"I say it looks more like coral," Amity said. "Gives me an aquatic vibe."
"Is it to mimic a swamp? Wait, would a swap have coral?" Marco rubbed his chin in curiousity.
"Makes you wondered what type of creatures we'll find here?" Amity said.
"Well, given the name, probably a bunch of frogs at least," Marco said, looking down into the city. "Somehow I'm not sure if we should be up here, we should get to the ground somehow."
"Yeah, let's do that," Amity said.
"Hold it!" Came the voice of a guard. The duo turned to see two newts with spears aimed at them. "State your business, trespassers!"
"Oh, um, sorry, we don't mean to trespass," Marco said. "We just wanted to see the sights."
"You have a really nice-looking town," Amity said.
"Yeah, likely story," the newt said. "Who or what are you two!?"
"Wait, those two look like humans, think they're friends with Marcy?" the other newt said.
"Marcy?" Marco asked, then turned to Luz. "I don't suppose you know a Marcy."
"The only human I know other than you is Luz," Amity said, then focused back on the guards. "Listen, we don't mean to cause trouble, we were just-"
"Wait hold on," a newt said, glancing at Amity. "That human has pointy ears."
"Yeah, that looks unusual," the other newt said. "Maybe it's a mutation!"
Amity groaned in annoyance, resisting the urge to hide her ears, "My ears are normal, thank you very much. Marco, I think we've seen enough of this place."
"Uh, sure, alright," Marco said, sensing that Amity was already getting annoyed. He pulled out the scissors, to which the guards freaked.
"He's got a weapon! Stop him!" The guard tried attacking Marco with his spear, the boy immediately leaping back in annoyance, unknowingly dropping the scissors into town.
"What's wrong with you!? You're gonna poke someone's eye out with that!" Marco shouted.
"I'll take that human, you get the mutated one," the newt guard said.
"Mutated!?" Amity used her magic to summon an abomination, frightening the newts.
"AH! Monster!" one newt said.
"That girl's a witch!" the other newt said.
"You bet I am!" Amity shouted as the guards ran off. "Wimps!"
"Amity! Are you out of your mind!?" Marco shouted. "You're gonna raise the-"
Suddenly the alarms went off, freaking the two out as more guards began to come.
"Not good," Amity said. "Marco get us out of here!"
"Don't gotta tell me twice," Marco said, reaching into his hoodie, searching for the scissors and finding nothing. "Uh..."
"Marco, hurry up with those scissors!" Amity instructed, then turned to see that Marco removed his hoodie, shaking it in a desperate attempt to find what he was looking for. "Marco, where's the scissors?"
Sensing Amity's annoyance, Marco took a breath and sheepishly turned to Amity, "On a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest and better choice since we're such good friends while ten is the highest and the most unreasonable since-"
Amity grabbed the boy by his shirt, glaring into his eyes, "Where are the damn scissors!?"
"I lost them!" Marco frantically shouted. "Must have been when that newt threw his spear at me!"
"What do you mean you lost them!?" Amity shouted, looking to the ground. "You probably dropped them, they couldn't have gotten far."
"Right, I mean the worse that could have happened is them falling into the water below..." Marco's eyes widened in worry. "Uh..."
Both teens immediately looked over the wall to the water below, a terrible realization dawning on them.
"Marco..." Amity said, her temper rising.
"In my defense, it was an accident," Marco said.
Amity groaned in frustration, "Never mind it then, let's just go before-"
Suddenly the two were surrounded, guards aiming their spears at the duo. "No sudden movements!"
"Amity, maybe now's a good time for more magic," Marco whispered. "I'll help with my karate skills."
"I hope you honestly know how to fight," Amity said, secretly readying her magic.
"Red belt, remember?" Marco said.
As the newt guards rushed in both Marco and Amity immediately went to work, taking them down one by one. Amity used her quick moves to evade the spears, disarming one newt and using the end of the spear to whack a few in the face. She then aimed the tip at one guard's head, tossing the spear at him which narrowly missed. This served to distract the guard long enough for Amity to wrap her abomination around her hand and punch the newt out.
Meanwhile Marco was kicking the spears out of the newts' hands, delivering powerful blows to the open parts of their armor, and sweep kicking anyone who got too close. Marco then dodged a spear attack and pulled at it to fling the guard toward other guards, knocking them over.
As the two kept fighting, more guards began coming, both Marco and Amity realizing if they stuck around, they could end up outnumbered and completely vulnerable.
"We should probably make an exit," Marco said, kicking a newt away. "Think the water's deep enough for us to jump into?"
Amity began to grimace at the idea, "I'm not much of a water person."
"Wait, does water actually hurt witches? Or can you just not swim?" Marco asked.
"It's not important," Amity said, using her magic to knock some newts into each other. "Let's just find another way out of here."
"How exactly?" Marco asked, getting close to Amity while preparing to protect her.
"Yes," came another voice, a taller newt landing beside the two, the duo immediately stepping back. "How will you find a way out?"
"Who are you supposed to be!?" Amity asked.
"I am Yunan!" The Newt Introduced, taking a dramatic pose.. "The scourge of the sand wars! Defeater of Ragnar" She aimed her claws at the two teens. "And the youngest newt to achieve the rank of general in the Great Newtopian Army!"
"Just your name would have been fine, we didn't need your whole life story!" Amity sassed.
"Uh, maybe don't tick off the giant, scary newt woman," Marco said.
"I am quite curious," Yunan pointed her claws to Marco's neck. "How did humans get here? I thought it was just the ones King Andrias mentioned?"
"We're new to this world, and in no way connected to any human you know," Marco said.
"Oh I should hope not, one of them is aiding a traitor to Amphibia," Yunan said, getting in close to Marco's face. "I don't take too kindly to traitors."
Amity quickly pulled Marco away, not wanting her friend near this newt, "Look, this has all been one big misunderstanding, if you let us be on our way, we can go back home and be out of your hair."
"Sorry, but I can't do that," Yunan said, triumphantly posing. "Doing so may endanger Newtopia, and I will not be outsmarted...I mean, I will not disgrace my king's throne!"
"Lady, seriously, we don't mean any harm, we're just a couple of teenagers!" Marco said.
"Nice try, but the last teenage girl I met put up quite a fight, her sword skills were much more than I anticipated," Yunan readied for a fight. "I will not allow any more mistakes to be made."
"What type of humans live here?" Marco wondered.
"Not important, if she wants to fight," Amity readied her Abomination. "Then so be it!"
"Amity, wait up!" Marco pleaded.
"What sorcery is this?" Yunan asked upon seeing the monster.
"It's more witchcraft than sorcery," Amity said. "Go my monster, and-"
In an instant, Yunan immediately defeated the creature, using her claws to cut it in half and then kicked Amity in the face to break what remaining concentration she still had. "Now for you boy."
Marco had no choice, he got into a fighting stance and went for a kick to Yunan's head, the Newt warrior blocking and elbowing Marco in the stomach. She followed up with a claw attack that Marco ducked under as he went for a kick. Yunan was quick to evade but Marco was not going to relent, he immediately ran in for more strikes, attempting to bring his opponent down.
"I will admit, you do have impressive skills, no doubt you've trained well in your life," Yunan said, parrying a blow and elbowing Marco in the back. "But I've been doing this just a bit longer than you have."
Marco went for a leap kick but Yunan grabbed his foot, spun him around and flung him right into a recovering Amity, the two falling off the sides of the wall. Amity was quick to throw down her abomination to create a softer landing for the two.
"That's some nice, quick thinking you did there Amity," Marco said.
"Perks of training, always be as prepared as you can," Amity said, then noticed something of importance nearby. "Marco! I see the scissors! Over there!"
Marco looked to where Amity was pointing, "Sweet, let's grab them and-"
"Halt!" Yunan landed in front of the two. "You're not going anywhere."
As Marco and Amity were about to fight again, more guards came to surround them, preventing any way of escape, and blocking their path to the scissors.
"You think this is enough!?" Amity shouted, hoping to intimidate the guards. "I've been through much worse than this! You have no idea what I'm capable of!"
"What are you doing?" Marco whispered.
"Trying to scare them off," Amity whispered back.
"We can see through those words purple haired one," Yunan said. "This is your last chance, surrender and we will go easy on you. Try to fight, and it won't end well."
Marco groaned in annoyance, he knew things were bad, and while he believes he and Amity could have a chance to escape, it wasn't worth causing more trouble, if anything this might be a better chance to try diplomacy. "Alright, we surrender."
"Excuse me!?" Amity said.
"Smart choice," Yunan said.
Amity shook her head in defiance, "No way, I don't surrender that easily! I'm still ready to-"
"Amity, that's enough!" Marco scolded. "We're not here to make enemies!"
"But they started it!" Amity said.
"They're just doing their jobs, if we can explain this to their King, that would probably be a lot easier than trying to fight a meaningless battle," Marco said.
"I would listen to your friend here, Purple Hair," Yunan warned.
Much as Amity still wanted to fight, much as she wanted to grab the scissors and go, she knew the risks of doing so. Marco had a point, making more enemies would not be wise, especially given the trouble Mewni already has with the potential invasion from Belos, as well as their own problems. "Fine, I surrender too. But just so you know, I have a name, and it's Amity."
"And I'm Marco," the boy said.
"Excellent, now guards, escort Amity and Marco to King Andrias," Yunan ordered.
"Yes ma'am," the guards said, escorting the two teens away. As they did so, Yunan turned around to face the scissors.
"Those shouldn't be there," Yunan picked them up and put them away. "There, now no one can step on them by accident and get hurt. Another win for me, Yunan!"
Back in The Boiling Isles, Hunter was explaining the situation regarding Mewni to Emperor Belos, including the magic scissors that he has presented to the ruler. "With these scissors, you can go anywhere your heart desires uncle. All you have to do is imagine it, now you can finally get to The Human Realm, just like you've always wanted to."
"Thank you Hunter, you did remarkably well," Belos said, taking note of the scissors. "I can do such wonderful things with these. But tell me, what is Mewni like?"
"Well, I didn't get to see much, but it's a pleasant looking down I guess," Hunter said.
"I was its King once," Ludo boasted. "It was glorious."
"You? It's King?" Belos asked. "That's curious, who are you exactly?"
"I am Ludo, commander of a once great army, at least before the mutiny," Ludo said. "Ungrateful whelps turned against me after all I've done for them. Not that it mattered, once I got the magic I so desired, I took over Mewni by my own power."
"This creature knew Toffee," Hunter said.
"Yes, he was my subordinate, traitorous scum," Ludo said. "The moment I had my power, he tried to usurp me again, which cost me my throne. I was so happy to have crushed him myself."
"You defeated Toffee?" Belos asked, raising his eyebrow in surprise.
"You got it, that guy was no match for me once I got serious," Ludo said.
"Interesting, see I had once hoped for his assistance in my plans, I needed an army after all, it's a shame I may have lost access to that," Belos said, eyeing Ludo. "All because of you."
What was once a feeling of pride and a boasting moment for Ludo quickly turned into a moment of fear and worry for his own life. It didn't help that some guards nearby were eyeing him as well, even the recovered Kikimora kept a close watch. "Well, it wasn't all me, I mean I helped a tiny bit, it was mostly Princess Star Butterfly, and her friend...I swear that boy's name eludes me sometimes, I think it started with an M..."
"So, Star Butterfly is to blame," Belos said. "Hm, Star Butterfly...is she perhaps related to Queen Moon?"
"Wait, you know about them?" Ludo asked.
"I have heard of Mewni eons ago, I believe their Queen at the time was a woman named Eclipsa," Belos said. "I hadn't learned of the name Moon until recently, from a chatty woman named Hekapoo."
"That hot tempered red-head?" Ludo asked. "Also you know Eclipsa? Must have been around quite a while, eh buddy?"
"Do not speak to Emperor Belos in such a manner!" Kikimora warned.
"It is fine Kikimora, it is mere ignorance on his part," Belos said. "Now, Ludo is it? Perhaps you can be of use to me, if you do as I say, you may get your throne back."
"Me? King again?" Ludo asked. Enticing as it was, Ludo couldn't help have mixed feelings, he was certain he wanted that part of his life behind him, and he wasn't sure if he still wished harm on the Butterfly Family these days. "Well...that's nice and all, but isn't your goal Earth?"
"I must admit, I am interested in Mewni as well, and with these scissors, I can explore more realms, see all the possibilities," Belos said.
"Are you really going to conquer them all, Uncle?" Hunter asked. "All these realms?"
"Hunter, it is not about mere conquering, I have so much more I want to do," Belos said. "An ideology that I wish to share. Earth and Mewni can be among the first."
"You really dream big there," Ludo said.
"It is all I know how to dream," Belos said. "Tell you what, why don't you make yourself at home for now, I may require your assistance later, I should hope you are cooperative."
"Uh..." Ludo did not feel too trusting of Belos, despite his kind nature, something felt off about him. However he needed to play it safe, otherwise he could very well be dealt with on the spot. "Sure, whatever you say. But, if I can make one tiny suggestion. See I have a brother, and he's probably the only person in my realm that I care about. I don't suppose whatever plan you have would be able to keep him out of harm's way."
"I may be able to accommodate that, if you do your own part," Belos said. "Kikimora, would you mind helping our friend Ludo get adjusted?"
"Me?" Kikimora asked in disbelief. "Ugh, fine."
"Need me to help?" Hunter asked.
"Lord Belos asked me, not you," Kikimora said. "Let's go bird creature."
"Bird? I'm not a bird," Ludo said. "Wait, do I look like one?"
"Just go!" Kikimora ordered, Ludo reluctantly complying.
Belos took one more look at the scissors, feeling immense satisfaction, "In due time, I shall see Earth again, until then, I have some planning to accommodate for."
Back in Amphibia, the guards had brought Marco and Amity into the throne room, where the king's assistant Olivia was waiting.
"More humans? That's odd," Olivia said. "So young too, are you teenagers?"
"Yeah, we are. My name's Marco," the boy greeted. "This is my friend Amity."
"Hey," Amity greeted, looking rather bored and annoyed.
"Hm, you two look rather harmless, yet there was a ruckus outside, were you two responsible for that?" Olivia asked.
"It was a huge misunderstanding, we didn't mean to cause trouble," Marco said. "We came to this dimension by complete accident."
"If I may ask, how long were you two in Amphibia?" Olivia asked.
"A few minutes," Marco said.
"Minutes? How did you get here?" Olivia asked.
"Some special scissors, that we lost during our scuffle with that Yunan lady," Marco said.
"Scissors?" Olivia asked. "Now there's magic scissors? Earth is full of many surprises."
"Well, actually, they're not from Earth, they're from Mewni," Marco said.
"Mewni?" Olivia asked. "Hm, this is quite curious, but I'm not the one you should be explaining things to, come with me, the King is just down this hall. Follow me."
Olivia led the two toward the chair of the King, with Amity keeping an eye out for any possible traps or ambushes. She was not too trusting of these individuals, while Marco was just genuinely curious.
"Wonder what the king's like?" Marco said. "I hope he's as friendly as King River."
"Anything is better than Belos," Amity said. "For the most part, assuming we can trust this king."
"We just need to get him to hear us out, it shouldn't be hard," Marco said. "Just let me do most of the talking."
"You're way too optimistic sometimes," Amity said. "But, I suppose that's an endearing quality, it reminds me of Luz."
"The king's just another person, one in power but still, a person and one who can be reasoned with if we play our cards right," Marco said. "Everything will be fine."
"Presenting, King Andrias," Olivia said, gesturing to the King in question, a massively tall Newt that looked down upon the two bewildered teens.
"Holy Smokes! You're the size of a building!" Marco shouted.
"Marco!" Amity elbowed her friend in the rib. "Are you trying to upset him?"
To their surprise, Andrias began laughing, finding this first meeting amusing, "It's fine little girl, I get that a lot. I am King Andrias, ruler of all of Amphibia. What brings you two humans here?"
"Hi, I'm Marco Diaz, and we came here completely by accident," Marco said.
"I'm Amity Blight, and I'm not technically a human, I just resemble one," Amity said.
"Hm, resembling a human?" Andrias said.
"These two claim to have came here from a world known as Mewni, through magic scissors," Olivia said.
"Magic scissors?" Andrias asked. "And Mewni? Is that the name of your home?"
"No, see I'm from Earth, but my friend lives in Mewni, so I go there to visit her," Marco said. "I can travel between dimensions using these magic scissors. I got a pair from a girl who owns several, though it wasn't easy. Anyway that's how we got here, through those scissors. Which I lost near the castle wall."
"Hm, how unfortunate, those scissors sound quite interesting," Andrias said. "This girl with you, is she native to this Mewni world?"
"No, I'm a witch from The Boiling Isles," Amity explained. "I came to Mewni by accident."
"Wait, a witch from The Boiling Isles!?" Andrias asked. "Tell me little girl, are you familiar with a human named Luz?"
Amity's eyes widened in surprise, "How do you know Luz!?"
Andrias began to laugh out loud, "Oh wow, what are the odds? See there's this girl Marcy, who's a human from Earth, saying that yesterday her friend Anne came into contact with a human girl named Luz who was training to be a witch. She was joined by an actual witch named Eda and some little furry King creature."
"You meant to tell me that Luz, Eda and King are in this dimension!?" Amity said, unable to believe it. "All this time I thought they were on Earth! How did they come here? Did Luz's spell go wrong? Is this Earth now?"
"Whoa thee dear, I can't comment on the status of the spell, but I assure you this is not, nor has it ever been Earth," Andrias said.
"Still, this is incredible, you gotta tell me where she is!" Amity said.
"She's in Wartwood, Marcy and Anne are looking after her with a family of frogs, The Plantars," Andrias said. "They're very nice folks, so she's in good hands."
"Oh this is perfect, now which way to Wartwood?" Amity asked.
"Oh you can't go now, it's late, and the journey is quite long," Andrias said. "Why don't you spend the night, you can go in the morning."
"But...I have to know if Luz is alright, I need to see for myself!" Amity said.
"Whoa, Amity, take it easy," Marco said. "Look, I know you're excited to see Luz but King Andrias has a point, it's really late, probably not a good idea to travel a world we've never been too so late at night. Tomorrow we'll go to Wartwood and you can reunite with all your friends."
Amity looked unsure, knowing that Luz was close made her want to see her more than ever, "I still...I want to be sure that..."
"It's just one more night," Marco said. "And it sounds like Luz made some friends. Like that Marcy girl, who seems pretty popular in this town."
"Oh she is, my citizens just love her," Andrias said. "She's a bright young girl, with a fascination for adventure. She got to do things here that she could never do back home."
"She sounds really cool, can't wait to meet a girl like that," Marco said. "What about that other girl? You said her name was Anne, and she's human too, right?"
"Yes, she's Marcy's childhood friend, a spunky young girl with cool, hip, lingo," Andrias said. "There's a third girl named Sasha, but she seems to be...a bit of a trouble-maker, and associated with a traitor. Or was at least, sounds like Marcy and Anne fixed that, hopefully for the better."
"Yunan mentioned a girl like that, hope she won't be any trouble," Marco said, then saw Amity's eyes widen. "Uh, but I bet Luz can still take care of herself, and maybe Marcy and Anne are strong too."
"Oh you bet, Marcy's great with a crossbow, and Anne mastered the art of the tennis racket...or so I've heard," Andrias said.
"We can wait a night, let's just find some place to sleep," Marco said.
Reluctantly, Amity agreed, "Alright."
"This way," Olivia said, leading the two to find a room.
"Wait, what if those girls are pretty?" Amity asked.
"Amity..." Marco said.
"I'm serious though," Amity said as she was led off, leaving Andrias to himself.
"Hm...Scissors that cut through dimensions. I heard of those once, I thought it to be a joke, but it sounds like they're real," Andrias said. "Those other worlds too, The Boiling Isles, and Mewni...I swear I heard of the last one at least once. Maybe I wrote it down somewhere. So many surprises lately, so much to keep up with."
The night had come, many places taking their time to rest up. Marco and Amity had gotten their room, each of them having their own bed. Amity couldn't sleep, well, she was so excited to see Luz and hoped to reunite with the girl soon. Marco was also eager for the following morning, not only would he get to finally meet Luz, he was just as curious about the trio of Anne, Sasha and Marcy, wondering what kind of girls they are. Plus Amity was on to one thing, he had to wonder just how pretty any of those girls might be.
Back in Mewni, Star slept in her room, still feeling some guilt over the reveal with Eclipsa and Festrivia, as well as whether or not she deserved to be Queen.
Eclipsa could barely sleep that night, while she's happy that she got some answers from the Magic High Commission, the questions that remained still ached at her. She had to know where her daughter was, if she was truly around.
Ludo took to his room in the Boiling Isles castle, which had a nice view of The Boiling Isles, but he still had more questions about what Belos was planning, feeling like the Emperor had a lot up his sleeves.
In Wartwood, Luz was coming downstairs, after having needed a quick snack. Aside from Sasha, all the other kids were here. She could see King sleeping comfortably in the corner with Sprig next to him. One thing she found adorable was that Polly was snug in King's arms, it was really great that he had friends close to his age now, and she loved that both Polly and Sprig were so nice and welcoming of him.
She took her place back on the floor, with Marcy to her left, a girl whom she seemed to have a lot in common with. They both love adventure and both of them were basically living their dreams that others would call fantasy.
To her right was Anne, the first human friend she made here in Amphibia, probably the first human friend she's made in her life. Luz admired Anne, she was such a brave girl, always thinking of others, and came off as very dependable. She also found Anne to be very pretty, which made Luz feel strange inside. She already felt conflicted about Amity, now she's thinking of this other girl. Of course it could be nothing, she just admires Anne a lot.
Somehow both Anne and Marcy made her feel less alone too, while she loved the Boiling Isles, and had the likes of Eda, Lilith, Hooty and King keeping her company, she still missed her mom. Then she sees Anne and Marcy, two other girls who must be missing their parents too. Of course it may come to an end soon, and they can go home. Luz wasn't sure if she really wanted to go back home, but at the same time, she just wanted to be sure her mother was alright. She could only imagine the grief she's going through, the grief of Anne's parents, Marcy's, even Sasha's. Much as she doesn't care for Sasha, this wasn't a feeling she'd wish on anyone.
"Luz?" Anne said, waking up and getting the girl's attention."
"Oh, did I wake you Anne?" Luz asked.
"No, I just happened to wake up on my own," Anne said. Truthfully Luz did wake her when she sat back down but she didn't need to know that. "Something bothering you?"
"Oh no, I just...I was thinking of my mom," Luz said.
"Worried huh? Makes sense, I'm worried too," Anne said. "I know my mom's probably freaking out. My dad, he's more laid back and is probably the one keeping my mom calm, but I know he's worried too. He's a big lovable guy, mom says I get my eccentric personality from him."
"That's cute," Luz said, somewhat envious. "I bet he's fun to hang around with."
"But anyway, we're almost home, you don't have to worry much longer," Anne said.
"Yeah, if I can just see my mom, that would be enough for me," Luz said. "It's just...while I miss my mom, I don't want to totally give up on adventuring. I still want to return to the Boiling Isles."
"Maybe you can, you can work on that spell and go there whenever," Anne said, then took Luz's hand to comfort her. "Everything will be fine, I mean I don't plan to say 'bye' to the Plantars forever myself, something will work out. And I'm gonna be there for you, some way or another, I promise that."
Luz felt relief, and a sense of comfort thanks to her friend, as she placed her hand over Anne's "Eres un encanto, gracias Anne."
"I have no idea what you just said, but it sounds nice," Anne said as she went back to sleep. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight," Luz said, laying down herself.
Unbeknownst to them, Marcy had overheard them, the girl feeling a bit conflicted herself. Though curiously, it sounds like Luz wanted to continue her adventure, Marcy now considering so many other things at this moment and imagining how her future will be like with Luz a part of it. The ideas were intriguing to say the least.
