Chapter 418: [416] Demon

"Ah, Natsuki-sensei too~"

Before she could finish her sentence, she quickly covered her mouth, but her thoughts had already betrayed her.

August's face beamed with a smug smile. This charming, saintly girl—his adorable first love—was now firmly by his side. As for Natsuki Minamiya, she could only shake her head in exasperation. How long had it even been since they met, and she had already fallen for him?

Worse still, seeing August's obviously gloating expression made Natsuki even more annoyed.

"Let's go, Natsuki-chan. Let's head home and show Sayaka-chan the way while we're at it."

"Who's going home with you? I still have a mountain of work to do. Do you think a teacher's life is as carefree as a student's?"

Natsuki shot him a death glare before turning on her heel and storming off. She couldn't bear to look at August's face any longer—it was simply infuriating.

Sayaka Kirisaka, on the other hand, was quietly observing August. For someone to make the usually unflappable Natsuki lose her cool, August had to be quite the character. In fact, he was probably the only one in Saikai Academy who could manage such a feat.

As August and Sayaka left the school, they coincidentally ran into two other people at the gates.

The moment he saw them, August's sharp eyes narrowed, and his expression turned thoughtful. The other party, a boy with short silver hair dressed in a white hoodie, also fixed his gaze on August.

A dangerous magical aura radiated from the silver-haired boy, an energy so immense it felt like a natural disaster waiting to happen. But what caught August's attention even more was the presence of several immensely powerful entities residing within the boy.

This was Kojou Akatsuki—the current Fourth Primogenitor of the vampire race and, in this world, its protagonist.

Kojou's entire body tensed the moment he saw August. It wasn't fear but rather a visceral thrill, a resonance shared only between beings of great power. However, Kojou, still a fledgling Primogenitor, lacked the clarity to identify this sensation. To him, August simply felt... unusual.

But the reaction wasn't limited to Kojou alone. Within his body, the familiars sealed inside him began to stir violently.

A surge of overwhelming magic erupted from Kojou as he struggled to suppress it. After all, they were still at school. If his familiars were to rampage here, the entire Saikai Academy would be reduced to rubble.

"Kojou, what's wrong?"

Yaze Motoki, Kojou's friend, quickly stepped forward to steady him.

Sayaka instinctively clutched the edge of August's sleeve, her fear evident in her trembling hands. Meanwhile, back in her office, Natsuki sensed the chaotic magical energy and immediately furrowed her brows. Without hesitation, she activated her spatial magic and teleported straight to the source of the disturbance.

Arriving at the school gates, she saw Kojou desperately trying to suppress his out-of-control magic—and not far away stood August, observing the chaos with a look of mild amusement.

"August! You're behind this, aren't you?" Natsuki shouted, her voice dripping with irritation. "Can't you go a single day without causing trouble?"

"What are you talking about, Natsuki-chan? I'm just an innocent bystander here," August replied with a smirk.

"Stop calling me '-chan'!"

Unlike August, Kojou wasn't immune to Natsuki's wrath. She swung her folding fan at him with no hesitation, delivering a sharp thwack to his head.

Motoki, relieved by Natsuki's presence, let out a sigh. Though he had noticed Kojou's abnormal state, as a mere Adaptation Engineer and not a vampire, there wasn't much he could do.

With a flick of her hand, Natsuki summoned her magical artifact, the Laeding, and bound Kojou before dragging him off to a safer location. Naturally, August and Sayaka were also taken along. The entire scene left Motoki standing alone at the school gates, scratching his head in confusion.

"Wait, what about me?" he muttered before sighing and heading off.

On the rooftop of Saikai Academy, Natsuki's intervention finally helped Kojou regain control over his rampaging magic.

"Kojou Akatsuki, you idiot! How many times have I told you to be more aware of your surroundings?"

"It wasn't my fault, Natsuki-chan! I don't even know what triggered it!"

"Don't call your teacher '-chan,' you fool!"

Whack!

Her folding fan struck Kojou's head again, sending him reeling. After venting her frustration, Natsuki exhaled deeply and turned her sharp gaze toward August.

August's presence alone at the scene was enough to make her suspicious.

"Well? Care to explain this?"

"This has nothing to do with me, Natsuki-chan," August said with a casual shrug. "His familiars sensed my magical aura and started acting up. It's not my fault he can't keep them under control."

"Why would his familiars react to your presence?"

"When a lion and a tiger meet in the forest, what do you think happens?" August's calm reply immediately clarified the situation for Natsuki. She turned her attention to Kojou, her frown deepening.

For magical beings, strength was the ultimate law of nature. If August wasn't lying, the real issue lay with Kojou and his uncontrollable familiars.

As the Fourth Primogenitor, Kojou's familiars were the most powerful in existence. Sensing August's immense magic was bound to provoke them—it was practically inevitable.

Looking at August, Natsuki couldn't help but reassess him yet again. To trigger a reaction from the familiars of a Primogenitor with just his presence... Just how powerful was he?

Even a "half-baked" Primogenitor like Kojou was still one of only four in the world. That level of power wasn't something to take lightly.

"Who... are you?" Kojou finally asked, his expression serious.

August's smirk deepened. "Kojou Akatsuki, my name is August. I am the Demon King of the Original Sins."

"Demon King of the Original Sins?"

"That's right. Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, and Lust—the four cardinal sins of humanity. I embody them all."

Kojou stood slowly, his familiars still roaring inside him, though he managed to keep them in check. His gaze never left August, and his wariness only grew.

Even Natsuki found herself troubled by August's words. A Demon King? The Four Original Sins? She didn't know if he was telling the truth, but her instincts told her he wasn't lying.

In this world, the Vampire Primogenitors stood at the pinnacle of power. But that didn't mean no other monsters were lurking in the shadows.

Titles like Demon King aren't given lightly in this world.
