Multiversal Wanderer: Starting in Naruto

Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Reminiscing

"You're all here? Fugaku, that must be Shikaku. Let's sit and enjoy a meal together—even if it's just a late-night snack."

"Am I even suited to sit at this table?"

"Don't call me 'ancestor.' It makes me feel ancient. Though, admittedly, I'm no spring chicken."

Uchiha Fugaku glanced at Su Xiuyu, whose youthful appearance resembled that of his own son. It made things slightly awkward. Then his gaze shifted to Uzumaki Mito and the faint seal on her forehead. He assumed Su Xiuyu had mastered some powerful longevity technique.

"Alright, I'll give it a try... Not bad! This is really good."

"It was made by Mito and Chisayo. Decades of cooking experience still pay off," Su Xiuyu replied, though the pleased smile on his face betrayed his deeper satisfaction.

"Shikaku, don't be shy. Try some."

"Thank you, Master Xiuyu. I'm guessing you probably don't remember me?"

"Hard to say. Maybe I've seen you before, maybe not. Not important."

They fell into a comfortable silence, focusing on the food in front of them.

After a while, Fugaku broke the quiet. "Master Xiuyu, where have you been all these years? I've always wondered. There are rumors of another world, but..."

"I've been living in another world. Quite an interesting one, too. Time flows differently there. Though it's been decades here, it hasn't felt that long for us."

Fugaku and Shikaku exchanged stunned glances. It was already shocking to hear of another world—but now there was a time differential involved?

"And what about Lord Madara? Lord Izuna? The other clan members?"

"Madara and Izuna are enjoying themselves over there. No plans to return. As for the others, they're training diligently. No need to worry."

Su Xiuyu turned to Fugaku. "You've done well, by the way. The village looks stable and thriving."

Fugaku bowed his head. "Thank you, sir. Though, truth be told, the upcoming Joint Chunin Exams are putting enormous pressure on Konoha."

"Joint? I remember the Sand Village joined the exams, but this sounds different."

"Yes. This time, Kumo, Suna, Kiri, and Iwa are all participating."

Su Xiuyu furrowed his brow. That definitely wasn't in his memories. Clearly, his presence had altered the timeline.

"So, other villages are posing vague threats to Konoha?"

"Correct."

"How many Mangekyō Sharingan users do we have now?"

"Excluding Senior Uchiha Kagami, there are currently three others."

"Only four in total?" Su Xiuyu's disappointment was evident. For all their progress, the number remained low. But considering only two Mangekyō users emerged during the Warring States Period, perhaps it wasn't so surprising.

"My apologies, Master Xiuyu," Fugaku said, bowing again.

"No need to apologize. The other Village are just playing at war. I'm back now. You may be lacking in some areas, but we're family. Now, where's Itachi?"

"He's monitoring Kumogakure and Iwagakure's movements. Should I call him back?"

"No need."

Su Xiuyu rose to his feet. "Alright, all of you, get some rest. The Chunin Exams start tomorrow. We'll go see what all the fuss is about."

"Yes, Master Xiuyu."

After leaving Su Xiuyu's old residence, Fugaku and his group walked under the moonlit sky. Thanks to the barriers around the Uchiha compound, they spoke freely.

"That really was Uchiha Xiuyu? He looks so young," Shikaku remarked. Despite Xiuyu's gentle demeanor, he gave off an air of unknowable power.

"According to the clan records, he's looked that way since the Warring States Era. Same with Lady Mito and Chisato. Ageless. Their strength? Impossible to gauge."

Fugaku recalled the family archives, once thought of as myth. But now?

"Honestly," Shikaku added, "I couldn't even feel his chakra. He's... something else."

Shisui remained quiet. He hadn't mentioned the mirror space technique—classified information, after all.

"Let's get some rest," Fugaku said. "Tomorrow is the main event. With Master Xiuyu back, we've got nothing to fear."

For the first time in years, Fugaku would sleep without a worry.

---

The next morning, a brand-new grandstand stood at Training Ground No. 6. With so many participants and dignitaries, the venue had been rapidly expanded over the past few days.

The daimyos and Kage from various villages occupied the front rows, enjoying prime views of the arena. Most spectators were from Konoha—ordinary civilians rarely traveled far in these times.

"Tch. Konoha's such a modest place," Raikage grumbled, clearly picking a fight.

"It's true our training grounds aren't massive," Fugaku replied coolly, "but they're more than enough. We just don't see the need to flaunt our resources."

In truth, Fugaku didn't care for the Raikage's provocations. With Uchiha Xiuyu and Lady Mito back, Konoha's might had never been stronger.

If any village tried something... well, Fugaku wouldn't mind watching the show.

He smiled to himself. Being Hokage wasn't easy—but with strength like that backing him, who would dare oppose him?

-------------------------

"I am the examiner for this round—Uchiha Shisui. I believe many of you have heard of me."

His voice was calm but carried authority, instantly silencing the arena.

"The rules are simple. This is a ring battle. The match ends when one side concedes. If you surrender in time, I'll intervene. But if you insist on fighting to the death, you bear the consequences. I can guarantee your safety if you surrender—so don't make trouble for yourselves."

Gasps and excited chatter broke out among the crowd.

"That's Shunshin Shisui! He's even more handsome than the rumors!" someone whispered—likely a visitor from another village seeing him for the first time.

The Uchiha clan was famous not only for their strength but also for their looks, and Shisui was no exception.

No one expected the examiner to draw this much attention before the matches even began.

"Tch. Skinny arms and legs. Doesn't fit Kumo's standards at all," scoffed A, arms crossed.

"I think he's impressive," said Mei Terumi, eyes gleaming. "That Uchiha boy has spirit—and Shisui proved himself in the Third War. I envy Konoha's talent pool, don't you, Hokage-sama?"

The Tsuchikage, Ōnoki, said nothing, but inwardly seethed.

"Damn it... Why does Konoha always have so many geniuses, while Iwagakure struggles for successors? At least we still have Deidara..."

Though he didn't realize it yet, Deidara would one day drive him up the wall.

"The first match: Iwagakure's Kurotsuchi versus Konoha's Rock Lee!"

The crowd erupted as the two stepped into the arena. Kurotsuchi, granddaughter of Ōnoki, was well-known. Rock Lee, on the other hand, was practically a nobody.

Kurotsuchi's confident stride and long legs drew cheers from the crowd. Even many of the Konoha villagers found themselves rooting for her over their own.

Meanwhile, Su Xiu Yu and his group observed from the comfort of the Mirror Space, the view even clearer than being there in person.

"Wanna bet who wins this round? Loser washes dishes tonight," Su Xiu Yu grinned.

"I'll take Kurotsuchi," said Chisato.

"Same," Uzumaki Mito added.

Asaoka hesitated, then said, "I'm still rooting for Konoha. I'll go with Rock Lee."

"Then I'll choose Lee too," Xiu Yu nodded.

Mito raised an eyebrow. "You're not using the Sharingan to peek into the future, are you?"

"Of course not!" Xiu Yu replied with mock indignation—though in truth, he didn't need to. He already knew Lee's potential.

The match began.

"Konoha Whirlwind!"

"Earth Release: Earth Spear!"

Lee's kick shattered the stone spear like brittle clay, and he followed up with a punch straight toward Kurotsuchi's face.

"What the—?" Kurotsuchi dodged just in time. She hadn't expected Lee to break her Earth Spear with raw strength.

Lee struck again, but her form crumbled—just a clay double.

"Earth Clone?" Fugaku watched from the stands. "Your granddaughter is impressive."

Ōnoki chuckled proudly—until things started going south.

Lee, overwhelmed by Kurotsuchi's versatile Earth Release techniques, was slowly being pushed onto the defensive.

"Lee! Remove your weights!" a loud, passionate voice boomed from the stands.

It was Might Guy, his green jumpsuit flashing in the sunlight like a beacon of eccentricity.

"Sensei! You said that was only for critical moments!"

"This is your moment! Let your youth burn bright!"

The exchange caused an audible wave of secondhand embarrassment. Even Shisui averted his gaze.

"I really can't go on missions with Guy anymore," he muttered. "He cries before the enemy even attacks."

Fugaku sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "They've always been... unique."

Back on the field, Lee distanced himself and began unstrapping the weights on his ankles.

"You think that'll make a difference?" Kurotsuchi started, but her words froze in her throat.

The weights hit the ground with a thunderous crash, cracking the granite ring—stone specifically forged by elite Earth-Release jonin.

"Konoha Whirlwind!"

Same move—but twice the speed.

Kurotsuchi widened her eyes. "Earth Release: Hardening Technique!"

The blow shattered the hardened rock, but at least it blocked the brunt of the attack.

Lee didn't slow down.

"Gate of Opening—Open!"

"Gate of Healing—Open!"

His speed soared again. Kurotsuchi tried to counter but failed to react in time. Lee's punch landed squarely in her abdomen, sending her skidding across the ring.

"Earth Release: Landslide!" she managed, creating distance and gasping for air.

Ōnoki shot up in the stands, nearly leaping into the arena. "What kind of technique is this?! That speed is unreal!"

"Calm down, Tsuchikage," someone muttered. "She's still standing, isn't she?"

"Gate of Life—Open!"

"Gate of Pain—Open!"

Lee surged forward like a human bullet, dust exploding beneath his feet.

"I give up!" Kurotsuchi screamed, just as his foot was inches from her forehead.

In that instant, time seemed to freeze.

She looked up—and saw a gentle yet intense face. Uchiha Shisui had intervened. Had it been any later, even a jonin might've failed to save her in time.

Ōnoki let out a long breath. Losing was one thing. Losing a granddaughter was another.

In Shisui's arms, Kurotsuchi blushed. Whatever she was thinking, it definitely wasn't about Rock Lee.

"I declare the winner: Rock Lee of Konoha. Congratulations on advancing."

"Sensei! I did it! Youth prevails!"

"Well done, Lee!" Guy shouted, striking a dramatic pose. "Tenten, Neji, did you see that?! THIS is the power of YOUTH!"

The two embraced passionately. The audience winced collectively.

Even Kurotsuchi, now fully conscious, muttered bitterly, "I can't believe I lost to... that." But thinking of Shisui's face quickly softened her mood.
