Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Going Home
As the host, Ren Asakura had treated his guests well.
But in the end, they still had to leave.
After all, this wasn't their world—this wasn't their home.
Saitama, after spending two days here, returned to his own world.
Back to his daily life of being a hero.
Fighting monsters, hunting for discounts.
Even though the food at Ren's place was much better, Saitama still preferred his own simple home.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni also returned.
He planned to open a kenjutsu dojo within the Ubuyashiki Clan's territory.
Everyone had their own path to follow, their own responsibilities.
Ren didn't force them to stay.
After all, everyone had to walk their own journey.
After skipping school for two days, Ren finally showed up to class.
"Morning, Kato!"
Megumi Kato lifted her head slightly and gave him a faint smile.
"Morning, Ren."
As time passed, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.
The moment Shizuka Hiratsuka entered, she immediately spotted Ren.
As expected—today, he was met with Shizuka's Fist of Love.
"Shizuka-sensei is as powerful as ever."
Ren gave her a thumbs-up.
Fortunately, she didn't press the issue too much.
And so, the day's lessons began.
Boring lectures dragged on until it was finally time for P.E.
Luckily, the gym teacher was in good health and didn't call in sick.
Back in Ren's past life, his P.E. teacher could be "sick" for an entire semester.
"Pair up in groups of two!"
The P.E. teacher's voice rang out.
Today's lesson was tennis.
Hachiman Hikigaya was already planning to play against the wall by himself.
Ren, on the other hand, wasn't particularly interested.
His skill level made it feel like he was just toying with kids.
Unless he found an interesting opponent—
Like Hikigaya.
Once the students were free to practice, Hachiman immediately approached the teacher.
Claiming that he "wasn't feeling well",
He started practicing alone.
Ren quietly observed the scene.
"That's classic Hachiman. He's probably coming up with some ridiculous excuse in his head right now."
Since he couldn't play with Hachiman Hikigaya, Ren Asakura decided to just entertain himself.
Leaning against the wall, he casually bounced the tennis ball against his racket, twirling it skillfully before shifting to hit it with the edge of the frame. The round ball remained perfectly under his control.
Not far away, a cute "girl" (?) happened to witness this scene.
It seemed almost unbelievable—
No one should be able to control a tennis ball with such precision.
"This is pretty boring."
Ren gently flicked his racket, sending the ball into the air.
It followed a perfect arc—
And landed precisely inside the tennis basket dozens of meters away.
Ren didn't even glance at it.
It was as if he had already predicted the outcome.
Having lost interest, he decided to leave and find something else to do.
As the top student in his grade, he had certain privileges.
The P.E. teacher simply pretended not to see him—Ren was, after all, a well-known problem student.
Just as he was about to leave, he felt a lingering gaze on him.
Turning around, he spotted a cute "girl" (?)
White hair. Holding a tennis racket.
Fair, delicate skin. A soft, gentle smile.
"So cute... must be a boy."
Ren waved, signaling that he had noticed.
Saika Totsuka.
The adorable boy. The gentle little angel.
The one man who nearly made Hachiman Hikigaya question everything.
If Totsuka had actually been a girl, there probably wouldn't have been any competition left.
Totsuka blinked, then waved back.
A simple greeting.
They were classmates, had exchanged a few words before, just casual acquaintances.
Noon Break
Standing by the window, Ren looked down at the scenery below.
Hachiman was sitting with Yui Yuigahama.
"Around this time, Hachiman should be starting to notice something off about the dango situation.
Teenagers are such a hassle… and that guy's weird hatred for kind girls is even more troublesome."
The Three Great Delusions of Life:
1. I can do it.
2. I can turn this around.
3. She likes me.
Hachiman had once mistaken kindness for affection—
And confessed, only to be harshly rejected.
To avoid ever being hurt again, he became a self-sabotaging expert, convinced that youth was trash and kind girls were the worst.
After all, kindness creates illusions.
At that moment, Megumi Kato quietly walked over, having just finished her bento.
Her presence was so subtle, most people wouldn't have noticed.
But Ren did.
"You're done eating, Kato?"
Megumi Kato nodded, her gaze falling on the milk carton in Ren Asakura's hand.
"Is that all you're having for lunch?"
Ren glanced at the milk in his hand.
"Technically, I don't need to eat. This is just a disguise, so I don't seem too weird."
Megumi simply thought his chuunibyou was acting up again.
"Why is it that you always notice me first?"
Leaning against the window, she finally voiced a question that had been on her mind for a long time.
"Because you're my friend." Ren answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"If I couldn't even notice my own friend, that would be pretty pathetic, wouldn't it?"
Megumi blinked.
"Really? But a lot of my friends don't always notice me."
Ren shrugged.
"Hmm… maybe I'm just special? Or maybe I'm your closest friend."
Megumi smiled slightly.
"Closest friend, huh? I don't have many friends, so don't lie to me."
Ren chuckled.
"Of course! If I lied, I'd be a puppy!"
Megumi looked genuinely happy.
"But… don't you think close friends should have a more intimate way of addressing each other?"
Ren thought about the cultural norms in Japan.
"Hmm… how about 'Mei-Mei'?"
Megumi's smile deepened.
"Looking forward to working with you, Ren."
Being a transmigrator, Ren's mindset leaned more toward his past life.
He wasn't particularly concerned with the complex etiquette of Japan.
Megumi rested her chin on the windowsill, following Ren's gaze downward.
There, she spotted Hachiman Hikigaya and Yui Yuigahama.
They seemed to be chatting happily.
Yui was even playfully punching Hachiman's shoulder.
"They seem really close," Megumi commented.
Ren took a sip of his milk.
"Yeah. But Hachiman… he's too kind. And too smart for his own good."
Megumi tilted her head.
"Did something happen between them?"
Ren nodded.
"Yeah, some stuff. But I'll handle it. After all, I'm a bright and cheerful young man."
He flashed a warm smile.
Megumi didn't respond, simply watching quietly.
"By the way, Kato, what do you think of our club? Are there any other clubs you're interested in?"
Megumi pondered for a moment before replying softly.
"I don't really know anyone in other clubs. And I'm not exactly the standout type… I think the Service Club is fine."
Ren let out a small laugh.
"Our president is super sharp-tongued. At first, I was worried you'd dislike her."
Megumi remained as gentle and composed as ever.
"Yukinoshita is actually a good person. She may be blunt, but once you get to know her, she's easy to get along with."
Ren downed the last of his milk.
"That's nice to hear. Anyway, since I'm back from my 'leave,' I should report to the president."
